I just got back to the office from the district court. Our settlement has been entered and apart from a couple of thousand out of my pension fund and some debt the now ex-wife has to pay me back by September (post separation loans to set up her "new life"), we're done.

I got to keep my house, my dog and most of my savings. Quite good. Hooray.

What I didn't expect was the emotional state. Seeing the now ex-wife again after six months separation and going through the court formalities really got to me. I was in tears in front of other people, which I've managed to avoid for the last 20 years or so. Whew! Still tearing up.

Now my remaining question is: what do you guys do with the wedding ring? Keep it? Sell it? Symbolic destruction?I thought about cutting through it with a bolt cutter an keeping it as a reminder. (Throwing it into an active volcano seems quite impractical to do, or does anyone know of a volcano where you can throw wedding rings into boiling hot lava?)
