I had the voice too. Find out years later my ex did too and her mother and grandmother talked her out of it. I guess I just figured we’d work in things. Alas, she jus resented me the entire time. Still having a hard time letting her go and a hire the impact this has had on my kids.

I thought I'd never find someone to marry, so I think I clung to the first woman that expressed interest in being with me long-term. There were already red flags when we started dating, but I ignored them. 12 years later, I'm just a roommate that helps to manage the house and pets. Therapist asked her what she enjoyed about being with me. She rattled off a few things and he says, "That sounds like friendship to me." Yep. We don't have to be married or living together to do those things and if we weren't married, I kinda doubt we would even be friends at this point.

This life is short and I want to live it the way I want. Starting the process very, very soon.

I feel you. I should have listened to that voice, too, but dismissed it as "oh you just think she's too good for you". No, your gut knows. Now, 3 years after the divorce of a 7-year marriage and overall 13 years together, and finally ending the foolish post-divorce reconciliation "situationship" for the sake of the child's life stability, I'm just glad it's over.

All that matters now are my child, my self-improvement goals, and my hobbies. Not only will I never legally remarry, but I'll never co-own property or co-habitate again. Relationships have the absolute lowest return-on-investment.

Only good thing was 3 great kids but cost me 15 years of my life and $750,000. I don’t even want to calculate what it’ll cost me on top of that in spousal support and child support.

I remember on my wedding day, while shaving, thinking to myself, "I wonder how long this will last, maybe 10 years?" We were married 16 years, together for 19. I never wanted to get married, I just did it to make her happy. I was no more or less committed before or after the wedding and found/find marriage to be pointless. Never again.

Yup. Many men have fallen victim. I was young and didn’t want to listen to older wiser family who told me so…thankfully I got out but not in time. Over a decade. Now I’m stuck with spousal and child support for a long long time. But at least I’m non longer under her Wild abuse.

Embrace it though. You got to be a husband. For some, that came with being a father. A leader of the household. Embrace it all. It was an experience that came to an end and that's okay. Don't look back with regret. I know I don't. It was an honor to have held those roles. Some of those roles are with me forever. Like being a father which I could never regret. Ever.
