Hi ladies! So my boyfriend and I have been together for just over 7 months now and he is a very HVM and everyone in our lives loves us being together. Lately, marriage has been a big deal in our circle of friends because two of our closest friends are getting married in about a month.

We have briefly discussed the idea of marriage and he has jokingly stated that “It’d be a good 3 years before I’d think about a ring.”to his buddies , and when asked where this relationship was going he said “I want to see how this relationship develops; I want to take the time for us to really know each other.” He also thinks that a year is too soon for engagement, even though our friends got engaged in 4 months of dating.

I understand that it’s extremely important to get to know each other before a huge commitment like this and while i’m not trying to rush or push anything, I do have a timeframe of a maximum of 18 months before engagement which I haven’t yet communicated with him.

I’m very curious about how to explain this to him without seeming like i’m trying to rush because I’m not, although I am firm with where I stand on this and I need him to understand that. Also, what do I do if he disagrees or won’t compromise? Should I walk away if we don’t agree?
