I read this yesterday and it killed me. I lost my partner less than a month ago and have been devastated, so I’ve been hanging out in widower support subs and forums elsewhere. So many men who were married for 15,20, even 30-40 years and then turn around and immediately remarry. A lot of them have kids. It drives home for me that we give them our youth, our bodies, our dreams, and our futures. We give them the children they helped make. And when we’re gone, it’s like replacing someone on the assembly line. We’re a function, a role to be recast after we’re written out of the story.

I couldn’t conceive of giving away our pets, let alone his whole-ass KID. They don’t love the way we do so of course they don’t grieve the way we do. Worthless fucks.

Every man I've ever been on a date with that has children has explicitly told me he regrets having them and never wanted them. Ive been single and dating hard for the last 3 years so we aren't talking 2 or 3 men at this point. Its honestly difficult for me to date single fathers because of this.

If he truly doesn't love this child, he should do her a favor and let her be adopted by a family who will love and cherish her. He's not fit to care for a child - clearly, since apparently he has already victimized her to the point that family was forced to step in. If he doesn't let her go he'll end up murdering her, or best case scenario, she will live to adulthood but be emotionally damaged beyond hope of repair. What a sack of shit.

965 Upvotes. Yeah, imagine if a woman wrote that. When you decide to have a child you should think about if you could raise it on your own because you never know what happens. Your partner may die, abandon you, or whatever. If you aren't able to raise it on your own then don't have a freaking child!
