One thing I learned from my abusive narc ex is that when he overstates very basic things which go without saying for most people like "Honesty is very important to me" or "I would never cheat" that's a red flag and they are going to do the exact opposite.

Also, if he talks that negatively about other people, he is projecting his own shitty personality on other people.

Nothing is the "truth" with these types of guys. The "truth" is usually what these rage addicts want to hear; that women are lying to them in some way or cheating. They're looking for an excuse to abuse and rage at the woman they're with. I had a NVX very much like this. Always accused me of cheating or lying, despite the fact that I worked two effing jobs at the time (Monday to Friday, weekends I was stuck at home with him recovering from the grind) and literally had zero time to cheat, let alone enough time to eat a meal once per day. Add to this his random cell phone checks. His history was wiped daily despite him being on his phone all day long, mine, in contrast, never was. Guess who was lying and cheating the whole time? 🤡
