Oh phew! At first I thought maybe they wouldn’t hire a woman because they hate women. Turns out, it’s just because they think women are incompetent. Glad Quartz got to the bottom of it!

My supervisor is a mid 60s white man. He is always undermining the work of my female colleagues (me too). Asking us if the work is "too hard"🙄.
But let a man do exactly what we do, then it's nonstop praise😷.

"We don't think less of women, we just think more of men."
[–]shelballamaFDS Newbie 57 points58 points59 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Which is weird, because have these employers SEEN men?
[–]W3remaidFDS Newbie 41 points42 points43 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Would be an awful weird coincidence if they were men..
[–]shelballamaFDS Newbie 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well I mean, they only could've gotten the job since they themselves are *soooOOoOo competent" so that makes sense /s

Logic!
[–]lucidlotusFDS Newbie 117 points118 points119 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hmm, the men I work with are better at being praised for mediocre and subpar work, while the women are constantly cleaning up the resulting problems.
Kind of an odd choice of photo as well.

Whereas men grossly inflate their CVs and overestimate their skill level. Meanwhile, women underestimate themselves and are more prune to suffer from imposter syndrome.

The funny thing is you can get black listed for that crap, yet they still do it. Do you think they actually believe in their delusions?
[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I've had the opportunity of going through multiple CVs of men. Yes, they do inflate some things and try and paint themselves like they're these wonderful genius-like workers. They also ask for bigger salaries and have no shame in dumping their work on a female colleague. Usually if you're their superior in a job, they'll suck up to you while trying to undermine you. I've heard men tell to my face that they were after my job, actually and making veiled threats for me to "watch out, cuz he means business".
It reminded me of a guy in university who joined about pushing me down the stairs so he could take my place in a research project. 🤡 Oh men!
[–]Hot_Procedure1648FDS Newbie 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Mhm, they don't realize how much lack of a threat that is exactly. If a company choses such a man over me. This is clearly a company I don't want to work for. My time is scarce and there's plenty of other positions/ jobs out there, women Engineers seem to be well sought out for example.
[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Apparently he applied for the same job but I got it. And I happen to be new in the company and a woman.

Also, you did report him right?? You could have gotten paralyzed while that scrote get's to live his life relatively unbothered. I regret letting a older boy (at the time, middle school) go, when he clearly grabbed my ankle while walking up the stairs. If I did not pull it away he would have pulled me down a good few flights of stairs.

No. He made the same joke only watered down in front of the professor (male) that coordinated the project.
The professor complained also as a joke that there were only women on it - too much estrogen, he said.
I wanted in, obliviously so I played along.
We, the women in this project, have been chosen based on competence. They wanted the top 4 people. We happened to be all women
People with a stick think they deserve a prize just because they breathe air. Talk about entitlement ,🤬
An university and our faculty had its own rules. I wanted in and I knew I had to play nice with the males to be there. Sexism in academia is a disease. The same professor accused me of not writing my own thesis because it was on a procedural and technical subject - you see, it was too good for a woman. I got top marks on it, though, but it was the 2nd time in my life that this happened. Apparently if you are a woman you are already dismissed on the basis of sex by older men in positions of power.
My Master's thesis was another thing - another professor also male.

This right here.
Happily, at my job, everyone male or female was congratulating me for my promotion from conductor to train operator. And someone even bought me a slice of cake when my probationary period finished. q_q

I've never worked with a man who performed better. They were better at playing ignorant or using the word NO.

What a disgusting photo honestly. People confuse confidence and competence. I have seen it time and time again- deeply incompetent but confident and charming (🤢) extrovert guys rising to the top in no time.

So they are prejudiced against women 😐 I’ve seen this firsthand. The men are allowed to do the bare minimum, but if I do more than that but fail at the tiniest thing, guess who everyone comes after?
[–]lucidlotusFDS Newbie 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I see this happen over and over at work. It’s disgusting.

This reminds me: I teach public speaking and one of my students made the claim that there aren’t many women in blue collar jobs not because of sexism, but because women just don’t want those jobs.
Why don’t they want those jobs brad? Could it be… cultural misogyny and the fact women are socialized to think they can’t/shouldn’t do those jobs? How about the sexist hazing that occurs on behalf of male coworkers in those fields? He’s going to get a lashing in his feedback.

Proven wrong time and time again. Proven: we make better doctors (more empathy), better drivers of cars and huge trucks (women are now preferred drivers of big trucks in Aust. because they treat the vehicles better and they don't wear out as fast), this list could go on and on. What we aren't better at is violence - that's pretty much the only thing men outstrip us at by far.

"We are not prejudiced against women, we just think men are better". I wonder who's going to tell them this is the same as being prejudiced against women.

That’s literally what prejudice means
