This also makes me think if the concept of the female gaze in movies and artwork. Some people say that it's hands others say it's about emotions idk. But I've always. Wondered how a female gaze would look like if it wasn't for patriarchy. The female gaze we have now is created as an opposing force to the male gaze that was created under a patriarchial society so if patriarchy didn't exist, what would women find attractive?

There is much more female gaze entertainment for women now. It is much more about what drives women, their desires and goals vs how sexy men look (and even then we humanise men instead of degrade them). It only gets better the more we support and demand it. Wit and folly did a good essat video on female gaze called "feminine gaze and transformative stories" about how the female gaze has become tailored for women with show recomendations

This reminds me of that other post about the female gaze the other day. So much food for thought. I think a large goal for my future will be to eventually reach 90%+ immersion in female led/run/created media, art, clothing, food, and businesses. I'm just SO incredibly bored of men. They are so boring.
We have had to endure their opinion for so very long about absolutely EVERYTHING. They way society is run, the way cities are built, the way tools, houses, cars, etc are made. All of it. And they still don't have enough. Constantly ruining the earth, always pursuing money and power! It never ends with them. 2021 is the year i start putting thought into where i buy my things. So If any of you have businesses DM me because I am over it haha. Did i mention men are so fucking boring?

I love every single thing about this comment, sis
My employer had a company-wide “book club.” We got to book #2, I muttered, “Great. Another white guy. Haven’t heard from them enough.” That attitude attitude was well received in the Midwest lol.
When I want to purchase a tee, face mask, or some textile good (other than jeans), I look on Etsy and check out if it’s a woman owned store. A WOC? Even better.
In the before times, I supported local businesses that were woman owned. My pilates studio was owned by a woman. My hair salon. (I haven’t gone to either since March 2020; it’s much hard to support service jobs during a pandemic)
I mostly found these businesses by word of mouth- usually, from other women (that’s also how I found my realtor). When I moved to this city, I tried out a couple of pilates classes at various locations. I was clearly more advanced than the other students in one class I took, and the instructor pulled me aside after class. She gave me the name and number of studio and told me that the instructor would, “kick my ass.” Lol!!! She did. That studio was my home away from home.
I’m looking for a new job, and I’m on the lookout for a woman owned and run business.

EXACTLY!!!! I am so sick of men complaining and then not taking action. Of course they just want us to do the work for them (but not really because they don't want to change). They see all the fruits of women's labor and they think we were just handed that? Women experienced scrutiny and backlash in a myriad of ways to even wear pants, you chucklefucks. Millenial men are so embarrasing. Wear a skirt if you want, jarod, i don't give a rat's ass! But maybe don't relentlessly call your friend a simp when he wants to open up and get personal with you. Fuck!
Women have only gotten this far in the face of extreme adversity because we created spaces for each other. Or at least tried to create spaces. We've risked our lives as a collective whole to get where we are. Black women, Asian women, Latina and other white women....we've all risked our lives in some shape or form i get a fucking crumb so we could turn it into something real and palpable other women could use. Fuck men, seriously🙄🙄 have they ever heard of hard work???

I legitimately just do not care about the male perspective in art. It doesn't speak to me, it more often than not dehumanizes me and it crowds out an equal and worthy female perspective.
It's not as if men are less human and don't experience profound artistic sentiment, but the very existence of the patriarchy and their own intellectual and moral laziness have dominated art and entertainment culture for far too long, and the fruits of their labors are becoming as deep as a shallow puddle.
Why should I engage with things that do not speak to me and that actively try and keep me under the patriarchal heel by reinforcing the youth and beauty standards that men prefer? Men are the largest part of the art and entertainment world, and they are not there to be equal or equitable to the female experience.
Reject it.

This makes so much sense to me... no wonder I haven’t really wanted to watch any movies in the last 4 or so years!

I consume a lot of media. Passively. Typical of ADHD.
However, after evolving so much since the pandemic, summer protests, and FDS, I have to repeatedly shut off a program. I just can’t tolerate the lies and blatant misogyny dressed up with pretty lighting and a musical score.

I feel you 100%. Check out unconsentingmedia.com - it’s a database of thousands of movies, tv shows and books that gives them all a rating based on how misogynistic they are. You can filter it so you only see media that doesn’t piss you off, and they even have detailed notes of things that may still seem problematic so you can avoid them!

This explains so much why I don't enjoy most movies. I've said to people I was watching a movie with, "This isn't intended for me to enjoy." And so I don't bother. And especially stuff like "American Pie" ect. Crude and gross.

It was amazing to me when started to read all the classics in my late 20 and early 30s in a bid to become more sophisticated and well-read, that the works often referred to as 'great' and 'best ...of all time' etc etc, not only bored me but I found a lot of them just plain unimpressive. I kept thinking maybe I just don't like this one, I'll try another.
After a few years, I gave up. I realised that for most of those, the only thing that made them great were the (usually male) critics naming them so.
For all the overconfident scrotes out there: You liking something, it doesn't make it great or masterpiece or whatever. It just means you like it. That's it.
You don't get to baptise everything.

The best classic literature is written by women, Frankinstein, Little women, The secret garden.

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgeson Burnett is one of the best books I've ever read (listened to actually on audiobook on my commute a few years ago). I'd not read or watched secret garden and hadn't heard of her prior. It was such a beautiful story.

After watching countless stories of violent men portrayed as misunderstood, heroic figures with their little flaws, cool, and badass, I'm over it. I'm not interested anymore. It's so overused, it's ridiculous that they're portrayed in this grandiose manner when in the real world they'd just be your average thug with the emotional maturity of a 2 year old.
The lame guy turns into a hero and gets the girl... while not fundamentally changing anything about his character. He usually only learns to control some ability or is just lucky.
All those paedo movies portrayed as "artistic". No, I don't want to see for the upteenth time how a man in his sixties is somehow irresistible to a woman in her 30s, 20s, or even younger.
The "genius" man and his supportive wife/lovers who put up with his childish stupidities (pardon, eccentricities of course) or who are in constant awe of him.
Boring.

This. Since learning about the effects of patriarchy on women and learning about radical feminism, I've grown tired of listening to male sources and creators of media, academics and dating advice. No, I want to hear women's voices. I want to see female art, music, books and films. I want to read up on researches done by women. I want to learn about women's inventions. If I listen to a man before I listen to a woman, then that's shame on me. Women and men all over the world already prioritize men's opinions and creations, I want to give women my attention and adoration 'cause I'm a woman.

I always chuckle when men have this engaging discussion about which Batman was better or Spider-Man...like we don’t care. It has been recycled over and over again. We had enough. 🤮
[–]berryberrykicksFDS Apprentice 38 points39 points40 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
My NVX said one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard about Batman.
The leaked audio recording of Christian Bale screaming at people on set is what set him off. My ex was disgusted by his behavior.
“What? He thinks he’s so special, because he pretended to be Batman? I pretended to be Batman when I was six years old. Now what?”
I lost it. He was dead serious, and he said it with such disgust and disdain. It just hit me right in the giggle dick.
But you know what? Yeah, Christian Bale probably thought he was special, because he pretended to be Batman. And a lot of men probably think they’re special, because they pretended to be Batman when they were six years old.
For the members of FDS, I wish for you all to have the confidence of a mediocre white man. We’d be unstoppable 💕

And don’t even get me started on WWII movies. Like haven’t we had enough? I seriously can’t take another fucking 8 episode series and the only female character is a housewife in a flashback who writes letters to her GI. Over it!
The only thing worse is the male mid life crisis movie.

EVERY story is about the male perspective. Every one. EVen when a woman dies - like Gamora, or Black Widow - it's about the men left behind. Fucking boohoo.
And if not men it's about little boys. When they could easily portray little girls just as well.

I have not read a book written by a man since college. I didn’t do it on purpose but I’ll keep the streak going. Men are alarmed by this but they can’t even name a woman author when pressed.

Wow! I recently started refusing to read any male author. I think it started after my company had a “book club.” (I explained this in another comment on this thread)
I don’t think it was well received when we got to book #2, and I muttered, “Great. Another white guy. Haven’t heard from them enough.”
But seriously. Where’s the lie?

Men’s opinion and interpretation has literally been the most common and the only valued opinion for centuries. Until recently...
[–]SayNadFDS Apprentice 50 points51 points52 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I always struggle with male-centric artistic works because... most of them lacked the depth that I am seeking. Even those considered masterpieces of their time doesn't satisfy my hunger for that depth - because men rarely can feel and thus interpret things as deeply and empathetically as women. I often found myself sticking to the very few female authors and artists that deliver that depth flawlessly in its full simplicity.
Men can write all the epic fights and bloody war, but those gets boring after a while. I wonder if that's why I prefer to just read fanfictions because when you found a good one, you really found a good one. None of the books can compare.

90% of the time when a new movie comes out: “WOW an emotionally stunted straight white guy dealing with daddy issues — SO INVENTIVE! We’ve never seen that before!” They really think every single man’s story is special and unique and needs to be told, when they’re all exactly the same in different packages.
