Disgusting (I'm saying this about him using her and her agreeing to it). Can we all just acknowledge how nowadays everyone and their mother is now on the autism spectrum? The majority have aspergers or mild autism...completely capable people that have zero problems cooking for themselves, among editing else, but they get grouped in with what used to represent autism, which was severe cases where people are extremely impaired in communicating and completing daily activities. The spectrum is getting a lot more skewed where we're essentially talking about fully capable, smart, and mostly socially aware individuals becoming the face of autism, while simultaneously speaking on behalf of people with severe autism that have a completely different experience and set of issues.

If he has the ability to be in an adult relationship, he is almost certainly able to cook for himself. The only relevance of his autism here is that he doesn't like certain foods. He can cook.

The language in this post is ableist imo. Instead of being frustrated with his “picky ness and bad habits” which is the worst most ableist description for a legitimate sensory processing disorder, allow him to cook for himself. It’s that’s simple. He shouldn’t be forced to try new foods. She shouldn’t be forced to eat meat or cook two meals. There’s a simple solution here that shouldn’t involve ableism. ASD people are quite straightforward and understanding so I find it hard to believe her saying something simple as “please cook your own dinners bc I like to eat different things that you” would ever be an issue for an ASD person to hear or agree to.

He should be the one cooking for her. They aren't even married and she's already playing second mother. She's paying to feed him like he's a baby. Even she admits he's spoilt. Just because someone has a mental illness doesn't mean they're incapable of doing things for themselves and those that they actually care about. He's capable of eating, talking and complaining, indicating that he should have enough intelligence to cook his own meals and pay for them.

Weirdly enough, I had a couple of friends like this. Our friend group would hang out at each others houses and make dinner. When it was my turn I would make everything from scratch, because it generally tastes better. They would complain all the time how 'weird' my food tasted.

I had a running mental list of the things they wouldn't eat. Reds couldn't touch greens, they wouldn't each the majority of vegetables, they wouldn't eat food that was hot but is now cold, on and on and on. Yet somehow they couldn't remember that I can't eat eggs and I don't like spicy things.

When it was their turn they would just buy cheap, cardboard flavored fast food and canned/frozen foods.

This was just one issue among many, but DAMN does it get exhausting being a caretaker for Picky Eaters.

I'm in this post and I don't fucking like it. We split the food cost for the most part. I finally went through a few dozen unresolved food receipts and when he was almost $200 ahead (I owed him) it cam out to $100 behind. That's why so important he pays his portions when I even ask him to. I can't fucking afford to feed him.

Due to cost and time I have STRONG leans towards 2 items in a meal. Like 1 chicken thigh with 1 very large veg portion. Or a giant pile of a few veg cooked together. And it's not good enough?
