Watching the Ted Bundy tapes on Netflix, and I was struck by how they glossed over his first girlfriend. Men never fail to miss the truth when it's staring right at them, so I guess I shouldn't have expected much from this male-directed documentary (literally a bunch of Joes, Jons, and Justins). I'm 20 minutes in and could have already guessed that since he had murdered a bunch of attractive women, and necrophilia was involved, that his motivations were gender-based, and that this relationship was probably important.

Well, it turns out that his first girlfriend dumped him because he didn't get into law school or impress her parents. And then, around the same time that they broke up (the second time- because he wanted to get revenge on her and dump her himself), he started his murder spree. It really just boils down to this man having a murder tantrum because he couldn't impress his girlfriend.

Hope you guys all know the definition for gender-based violence, which isn't just when a man hurts a woman, but when the crime is inherently related to his feeling of ownership over the woman, her body, etc. I'll share some info on GBV later. Most serial killers are perpetrators of GBV.
