Also for the few days I endured OLD, I saw a pattern of men thinking Stepbrothers was the funniest and best movie ever. So I watched it. Well, I tried. I waited so long for it to be funny and it never got there. Just a couple of immature buffoons so now it's an immediate scrote test.

I resent any man who thinks his marvel movies and Star Wars are still high quality content, but my childhood classic “the last unicorn” is beneath him and he cannot watch it and it’s selfish for me to want him too. Which is why I invited everyone to watch the masterpiece of the last unicorn with me while I was online dating to vet. It started because I literally had an ex go off on me for wanting to watch The Last Unicorn with him and I was about to go “but it’s not just a stupid little girl thing-“ when I stopped mid sentence and realized what bs the situation was. Why is it everything boys grow up loving are socially acceptable to geek out about as adults but anything girls grow up loving is stupid and bad unless men randomly decide it’s good (like my little pony). I realized men are allowed to never grow up and women aren’t. He wanted me to watch his favorite Star Wars movies from his childhood but couldn’t watch my favorite childhood movies because he genuinely: maybe even without noticing, believed the media he liked was superior to “girl stuff”.

Similar thing with rom coms. I hate them myself but the amount of guys who shit on them just because women like them is bs. The amount of times I’ve gotten praised on first dates for not wanting to see a rom com but then get bashed for not wanting to see some r*pey action movie is wayyy too much. They’ll literally dislike something just because it has a connotation of women liking it.

So yeah you can learn a lot from using movies to screen men.

I ask them what kind of movie they'd like to watch with me and if they reply with some violent shooty/stabby male-centric action movie, that's a red flag.

Actually, that's a really good idea. I saw criticism, comments and hate towards these movies from people who HAVEN'T WATCHED them.

Edit: Suggestions for other movies receiving hate from people who haven't watched them: Ocean's 8, Ghostbuster (2016) or even just the idea of a female James Bond. It's ok to watch them and don't like them for xx reasons. But if you simple don't like the idea of them and, thus, didn't watch them - then shut up 😩

For me it's Mad Max: Fury Road

I remember going to the theaters to watch it only because the incels were raging about it. 😂 Any man who doesn't like that movie is a man I don't want to talk to.

I do it with movies, series, and anime ( my motto is: "everyting can be a vetting tool if you are creative enough" ). I've watched anime myself so I know very well which animes are worth watching and wich ones are not. In fact so few animes are worth watching that they are a wonderfull vetting tool. For movies and series just pop on incel forums and see which movies they hate the most ( birds of prey, new star wars, new ghost busters,captain marvel, series with female leads,etc...) and add those to your vetting lists.

In the quarantine I discovered C-dramas and I will be using them as a vetting tool in the future. Just look for one that is historical with lots of fights and martial arts but that has women on it. In C-dramas women are not hipersexualized like, say, wonder woman in the male directed DC movies. They have superpowers, full armors and show as much skin as the men ( in fact, maybe you will have men's topless scenes sometimes but no women's). Let's see if they really can stomach warrior women without gratuitous T&A camera shots I say ;)

This is really interesting. Although I have to say I didn't like marvels take on captain marvel. Plot action sequences could've been better. Birds of prey was cute but dc is just disappointing. Jessica jones is amazing. I'm gonna go throw back Buffy early seasons before she went thru her own identity crisis with men and dating characterized by personal self loathing. The series ended up with a female empowerment concept but Josh whedon has a sketchy history with "men writing women" plots. Wonder women an all female warrior society based in justice-hell ya and cannot forget black panther and women in science/tech and the fiercest warriors being female.

I bet by my movie choices would give people pause in terms of dating but the concept of using the type of media people prefer to ingest as a window into their psyche would be a really fascinating research area. I'd love to see a study on it. I know there's been studies on violence and porn and how it changes the way people view the world but looking at at less nefarious types of media and it's role in shaping perception (especially considering lack of socialization due to pandemic and massive media consumption) is a study with conducting.

Red Flags I Go By:

Anything that contains graphic rape and torture scenes. Leaving Las Vegas, A Clockwork Orange, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Game of Thrones are great examples.
Dumb bro comedies such as Napoleon Dynamite, Stepbrothers, Old School, Animal House. I would also include garbage cartoons like Family Guy. This crap is for the lowest common denominator. Every guy I’ve ever met who LOVES Family Guy has been a fucking idiot who tried to drag me down to his level of stupidity.
Quentin Tarantino, a privileged white male who fetishizes the revenge fantasies of women and POC. Creepy.
Graphic slasher horror films which also contain gratuitous rape/torture of women, such as Hostel, The Last House on the Left, Saw, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc.
Any kind of talk shitting all over romcoms, musicals, historical dramas, female-driven action movies, international films, anything associated with women at all.
LOVES all Superhero movies... except Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, or anything else where the woman is the lead.

Not a movie... but anytime that a man has hated Meghan Markle, it was always bad news for me. It is symbolic that they hate women who use hypergamy or are extremely ambitious.

I don’t think Captain Marvel is the best litmus test. Captain Marvel is very average and I watched it at a point in my life where I was absolutely over superhero movies. Also, Marvel completely mishandled her character I n a bid for “girl power” and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. If a man has the same opinion, I would trust him more than a man who says he likes the movie because Strong Women Leads.

It all comes down to the reasoning for me. Being completely adverse to watching it whatsoever (when you eat up every other marvel property) and being critical for the exact reason you mentioned (her being over powered), those are red flags, but there are also plenty legitimate complaints too.

hmmm, i think with captain marvel it depends on the reasons they don't like it, just to use your example. if it's for the reasons you've stated - good riddance. if it's "not a fan of superhero movies" - ah well.

i think it's a huge red flag if people say their favorite movies are "antihero" ones. the tragic but evil protagonist ones. think fight club or joker. they absolutely are great movies, but if someone can relate to a literal psychotic murderer, bye.
