I might be able to take this article seriously if it didn't attempt to keep manhood and masculinity and "a real man" in to a narrow area of what is permitted. That is to say, no, I don't want to be the kind of man who gets married and works for the system and mans up and teaches his sons to be good little drones like me. I am a man, but I'm not that kind of man. This article would try to frame this as a failure on someone's part that I am this way.

Some of those statistics look off. For example the teenage pregnancy link goes to a site which has the USA the worst OK, but not out of 192 or 194 countries, only out of 25 industrial countries and even they seem hand picked (eg the UK isn't in the list of 25).

The whole article is crap. It completely MISSes what are, in my opinion, key points about today's culture.

Namely, the hatred of men is not addressed - like an all female audience "The Talk" applauding sexual violence against men.

Second, many of those stats listed - some say "men" - others say "people".

Other of those statistics were simple "shaming", as they put all blame for pregnancy on men, not young women as well...

Crap article.

Oh yeah - it also mentions the "Peter Pan" syndrome - that right there screams "RED FLAG!!!!"

All these shaming "Peter Pan Syndrome" articles have one common thread. Worried about the future of America because "no one (read no men)" is going to be capable and more importantly willing to be the sacrificial blood for the machine anymore. I think they implicitly recognize that women aren't going to do it. Not because they aren't capable, but more so because the role of men is something they have never thought to question. Men's state as the disposable provider of society is simply something that has always been there and they expect it to continue.

They never saw it as a problem with motivation. They just assumed men "liked" to do "men" things without any recognition.

They never asked: "Why do men like building bridges and fixing things and providing for women and society at large?"

or perhaps more importantly.

"If we want men to continue building bridges and creating far more for society at large as providers, how can we motivate them as a group to continue doing that?"

I think they recognize the importance of male disposability as the enabler for their own desires and societies health at large. So important is that role, they'll pass laws to encroach on our rights, higher taxes... etc. They will push this further and further until we are simply slaves under law, instead of under societal construct. Women's rights, (read well-being, feelings) are so much more important to them, that they can't even fathom the idea of equal shared sacrifice. Some right's we trade for security as a society, and with the understanding that different people have to perform different roles. I think on some basic level this concept escapes them.

Part of me is glad to see some recognition of a crisis for boys in america. Another part of me is horrified at the portrayal of these young boys, and a suspicion that entirely the wrong people are going to be financially and institutionally empowered to try and address the crisis.

When, in the early nineties, there was perceived to be a "girl crisis", america's protective instincts kicked in and there was a massive influx of programs aimed at nurturing girls into strong women. Now that we have a "boy crisis", all the language is so judgemental and harsh, and I just picture boys being nagged incessantly as the means to attempt to correct this.

I think #11 - the employment situation - has a lot more to do with it than 'morality'. Why knock yourself out if there's no payoff except being tens of thousands in debt and only a job at burger king to pay it off with?

And if the advent of birth control made it apparent that motherhood was not the 'natural' desire of a surprising number of women - on track for 50% of women to be mothers where once it was 90% - why is is surprising that an equal number of men don't want to be fathers? No responsibilities, no reason to be responsible!

But I found these stats repetitive, and many were issues related to the economy, or issues that affect all young people, not just boys. What an awful list. I think, however, the writing shows why young men might be driven away: It's so god damn insulting. I'd never help some fuck head simply because they have expectations of me to support them. Hell, for some reason, anything sexual in the article was entirely blamed on males.

I think the STDs and porn are not quite related. Those girls getting STDs are probably all banging a small group of guys who won't commit to them. The rest of the guys are jerking off to porn because they're probably undersexed.

I think one of the reasons more women are going to college is they get at least some financial aid just for being female, well at least for female engineering majors they do. As for people not having jobs and living at home, Im sure that has nothing to do with the state of the economy. There could also just be an attitude problem, my uncle lost his job and was offered jobs that would require him to move and he refused them and an other uncle was offered a job but made more off welfare and preferred being home over working. Then the old sex issue, as far as I can tell it takes two individuals to have sex, so they should take equal responsibility for their own sexual protection.

1 Video games are played more by boys...so? Girls waste time in different ways. Video games have also been proven to help hand eye coordination among others. What is bad about this, and how is it proof of anything? More girls gossip on the phone, so what?

All of the education statistics only prove how our education system is focusing solely on girls. Feminist legislation has given prefernce to girls and boys in schools are treated as not as important. This should be proof of our failing system, not that boys are inferior.
47% of high school students have sex...so this is all boys fault? It seems to me that this is also a result of feminism telling girls to be promiscuous.
Moving back in with parents has become a wise decision for young adults who realize the economy has been screwed and against us by older generations.
