I removed this because one of our users pointed out that this account has no history before this post. OP may or may not be genuine, but the discussion has proved to be worthwhile.

The purpose of stickying is that it would generate conversation amongst our members. It's an important topic for ideas and debate.

I would advise linking up with the local women's shelters (in particular those that man the phones) and making sure that they know you are about and providing support. That way if they do have people come their way who are male they will instead of fobbing them off, pass them your way.

If you can prove that your service is being used further down the road it will help you get further support.

You should try contacting the local government/dv resources first to get an idea of what's necessary legally. Don't be afraid to reach out to notable members of the MRM either. For example, I would email the folks at the Canadian Association for Equality to get more information on where to start and if they know any people in the UK who could help you out. You might even try emailing Erin Pizzey who started the whole shelter movement. She's done a lot in support of the mrm and was most recently involved in helping Mark Pearson defeat his false accusations.

Please consider being flexible, don't break dad's and their kids up. Relatedly: offer housing to women who won't stay at the woman's shelter because the shelter won't have male children over a certain age.

Also, if you put in the leg-work legally and get the ball rolling, from my un-initiated internet-fellow point of view, if things seem on the up and up, I'd like to donate.

Women started their first shelters somehow and men can too.

Quick question, why only to males over the age of 16? Hat about the ones who are 16 and under who have nowhere to go? It is great that you are trying to do this (and I highly suggest a gofundme page) but what reason is there to deny boys access?

Shelters require a lot of money. That is why they are mostly funded by the gov and the United Way. You probably can't get any money from either source. A guy in Alberta, Canada started a shelter called MASH, but ran out of money and committed suicide. I gave him $100, but I knew that it was a drop in the bucket compared to the amounts he needed. Here in Canada, many shelters for men have been set up, but they have all closed after a few months for lack of funding. Currently there are no shelters for battered husbands & their kids in Canada. Maybe you should think of something easier to do.

Don't k ow who your local MP is but contact MP Philip Davies. Let him know what your plans are once you have them on paper and I'm sure he would jump at the chance to help. You no doubt know he's on the Equalities committee now. He will make it a political point because that's his job but that's fine.

Money's got to come from somewhere. Your service would be much more effective if it at least nudged men into getting jobs and becoming financially independent.

i know its common sense but, look up UK law else youll be fucked anally in the future. dont want any nasty suprises (a few days ago, in the US, some guy built houses for homeless for free, but government took em down because reasons)

You are going to have a long hard slog ahead.

Whilst so many feminists will attack and tell you that they had to do hard work back in the 1970' to get women's refuges up and running, Erin Pizzey will tell you of the Millionaires who just handed over cheques and properties they bought as small change - yet when she opened her Men's House not one contribution was forthcoming. They always forget how kindly history and white knights have been to them.

Your in the West Midlands? That will also be a big issue given how Women's Aid in the area (Particularly Sandwell) have built quite a massive and high value empire - and been willing to trample even the people in the refuges to achieve this. They will do everything possible to undermine you ... and they have past associates like Jess Phillips in Parliament too.

I know from past experience that The West Mids councils, social services and even police are very much White Knights and will do anything, including ignoring or threatening the victims of Women's Aide abuse, violence, hate crime and discrimination, to avoid also being attacked by the gender abusers and manipulators. West Mids is a know cess pit of gender intolerance against men and DV ... and Women's Aid will also play the race card demanding that ethic women need services and never white or ethnic males. They are very manipulative and promote institutional racism that supports women's aid's views and needs.

The best advice will be WATCH YOUR BACK. And watch It Twice Over.

I wish you the best of success. THIS is the kind of activism we need, not just complaining about women.

See if there's any govt money available for this. Hit up veteran's groups and other orgs to see if they have any spare cash to help you out.

Then you need to look into the laws. Zoning laws, other laws. Make sure if you have legal requirements for things like the ADA you have them.

Make sure you network: a lot of young homeless men are gay. Find out any help or liaison you can get with gay groups, and so forth.

And network to try and find out a way to help folks transition out of temp housing.
