It's an indisputable fact that there are far more homeless men than homeless women. Women have way more leverage than men when it comes to finding new opportunities. Getting a job is easier, getting a relationship is easier, and most things in general are easier to get into. Nobody is blaming these two specific women, nor even women at large, for this picture. What could be discussed, however, is the fact that while roughly 75-85% of homeless people are men, there are far more resources available to homeless women. Rough sleepers are almost exclusively men.
Think maybe before you could come in here acting all self-righteous about what you think the implied message is here, that you might want to ask? Because I'd guess that it's far more about examining the safety nets and social programs we have and their availability versus need, or even the need for many of them to be as gendered as they are. Or, you know, since you seem to know this sub and its subscribers so well, you could continue to assume we're all thinking "LOL FUK DESE WOMYNZ LOLLLL"

I don't think the anger is at these women. The anger is at the stance society takes on homelessness based on gender. When you see a homeless man the knee jerk is usually something close to, "get a job!" or "if I give him money he'll probably just buy drugs or booze" but when you see a woman struggling sympathy is much easier. Also there seems to be a lot more women's shelters than men's shelters. And housing homeless campaigns often give statistics like, "did you know 1 in 5 homeless are women?!" (Not saying that's the real statistic just giving an example). The anger is at where the public attention is focused and the picture is just being used to display that anger.

You're confusing societal systems with society. Society is a collection of individuals. We can't and shouldn't control them. We can, however, fix sexism in the law, for example. Regulating a system is much more achievable than regulating people.

Today? When the mechanic looks at the car what's the first thing they do? Connect the car to a computer and download diagnostic information including error codes from the onboard computer.
Imagine that! Removing even more of the broken human element from the broken vehicle system.
In summary, motor vehicles as a system were created by people and have major flaws. Efforts to correct this are culminating in the removal of the human element - because right now it is the most broken part.

That depends on how you define privilege. Some people seem to say it's just any case in which a favourable outcome is more likely e.g. being born with favourable genetic traits, while others seem to use it to only refer to advantages conferred upon by society.
In that case we're definitely not privileged. We're more likely to be homeless, murdered, physically assaulted, die on the job, have a shorter life-span, commit suicide etc.

Many of them owe debt that will not be forgiven. Either student debt, or criminal debt.
Also there is another segment that owes fines and therefore can't get much, if any, government assistance.
There are just too many holes to fall through in the saftey net as it stands, and if you fall into one of those two traps, I don't think there is a way out, except extreme luck. There are a few I know that have 2 or 3 jobs, and are still homeless, and don't expect to be able to live anywhere (even subletting an apt with 3 or 4 others) for years due to their credit/student loans/fines

For people saying "if this had been reversed" - the homeless you see on the streets are almost always men. A woman laying on the ground like this would immediately get attention and help from a shelter of some sorts. How many shelters for women aren't there, with active workers going out to help women in need? Honestly, I bet it's pretty 50/50 homeless men and women without researching it further. But I believe that women are more likely to get help than men. Being homeless isn't just about poverty, it's got a lot to do with mental illness, and I think women have a privilege in the sense that they have more access to both public and charitable help. Men might also be less willing to accept help for their illness as well. I remember I read a story on Reddit a few years ago where someone gave a homeless person all he needed to live a good life including a home and money, but he went back to being homeless because that was the only life he knew. It's often all in the head.

Women have children and most often care for them. I believe it is why we see less homeless women because children take priority. Men tend to have more self-destructive tendencies. Also, military vets make up a large majority of the homeless population. I believe if there were more women than men in the military we would see a lot more homeless women. Although black men have more obstacles than white men, I don't think there is statistically a huge difference between % of black men that are homeless, and % of white men that are homeless. Whereas there absolutely is a big difference between the % of women that are homeless, and the % of men that are homeless.
