I had mine at age 36 after our 2nd child. No medical or physical problems and somewhat minor pain for about 2 days. Swelling for about 7-10 days, but no big deal. Have to be careful no to lift heavy stuff for awhile. Sex life was actually better due to it, no pregnancy concerns.

Fun fact: Doctor did require my wife’s signature approving the procedure. Do women need their husband’s approval to get elective sterilization?

If you do it, go into it with the expectation it won't be reversible. Also be prepared for pushback from the doctor.

In the end this has to be your decision completely, don't let whats happening around the world influence you.

By 30 you’re mature enough to make the decision but make sure you’re making the decision for you not society. That confuses it in my opinion.

I got one just last year. Recovery took me only a few days, even faster than I expected from the materials and advice the doctors gave me.

I feel great about it. The peace of mind is real. I'll never become a parent without explicitly choosing to be. And between my family mental health issues and my own unhappy life, I have no reason to believe that my genes are something I should be looking to pass on. I'm so glad I did it.

Weird but reassuring fact. There will be no noticeable difference on your ejaculate, hormonal production or worth as a man after the vasectomy. Hell, other than a tiny scar that will be pretty much invisible(usually hidden in your perineum).

I was dating a guy who got one while we were dating, and not even the taste or texture changed, so that is one less thing to worry about.

Proud of you for taking that aspect of your life into your hands, and for actually considering the options.

I'm planning to get the snip just before my first and only child is born in the fall. I live in Mexico, and I want to see if the doctors ask me for my wife's signature before they agree to perform it on me. My wife is totally on board with me, but I want to do a little social experiment. If they do ask me for my wife's signature, my plan is to get indignant and inquire whether they ask women for their husbands' signatures when they want an abortion.

Had mine at age 35, having had two kids and not wanting more. Doctors didn’t argue the point with me. Best decision I ever made. I split with my wife aged 42 and dated a bit. Knowing that I couldn’t be trapped or suffer a whoops moment was truly liberating. I told all my sexual partners that I had the snip, so they were under no illusions about pulling any stunts with me. Would I recommend it….yes absolutely. For me there was 1 day of discomfort and then back to normal.

UK resident here. Had mine done 2yr ago at age of 36. It was done using a "cautery device", basically a soldering iron that burns through the tubes and seals the ends rather than stitches. Probably should mention you have a local anesthetic first 🥲

I was early for my appointment, got a drivethrough coffee on the way in. Still too hot to drink in the waiting room when I got called in. Dr explained to me I wouldn't be able to site children without a reversal (duh?). Burned a small hole in thru the front of the ballbag, pulled each tube up to that hole and burned through. No stitch, no glue, just a padded band-aid and I was on my way. The coffee was just the right sipping temperature as I walked out.

Dull aches for a week and that was it. Spern sample at 12wks, 1st one came back borderline so another sample at wk16, clear.

That's it, my dude. Such an easy procedure I don't know why there's the stigma or fear associated with it.

I'm thinking about it too, the parental/ custodial system is extremely flawed and biased when it comes to males and having children is a extremely tough thing , I have 1 now and it's the hardest thing I've ever dealt with. The system will give a piece of shit woman who is objectively dangerous for your child custody even if it's documented she's a serious threat to the child .

I have to say I had my vasectomy in 2005, I had 2 kids, never dreamed things would get sideways, well they did, got divorced, my kids are grown now got remarried to a woman my age... I truly wanted one more! I wished now I would have never, so Had a reversal last year.2021.. well let's say things were fine until 9 months in now experiencing nerve damage 💔 no baby yet, so really think long and hard before snipping I honestly thought I did think long and hard about as well...

The way i see it is you're preventing a murder when a woman cuts out the life you both chose to cause to be. Abstaining is too hard and you can't trust yourself in the moment to do the right thing. However, i would feel i an surrendering my hope to fight.

First off, I don’t think it’s wrong to reproduce in a difficult world. Human survival has always been about facing tough odds and trying anyway.

But I was vasectomized at age 27 I think. You should know about the small chance of post-vas pain syndrome which I had for about seven years. It was truly miserable though my pain was only about 3-4 on the pain scale. It was mostly not knowing what it was or when it would end.

It turned out I had a hernia that the vasectomy made “noticeable.” Easily resolved with weight loss and physical therapy.

I wouldn’t use this testimonial as a reason not to do it, it’s just that urologists aren’t very forthcoming with this side of things.

As for the snip. I wouldn’t advise you either way. Just remember that it isn’t normally reversible, especially after a couple of years. You need to be absolutely sure you definitely won’t want to have kids, and be fully aware of what that means.

Just make sure of this before doing it. And finally, if you get involved with a woman, make sure you’re up front about this fairly early on. It will help with a woman who likewise has no desire for kids, and you won’t lead on a woman who’s really looking for a father for her children (future).

My experience is this: at 30, you may change your mind about having kids, so I do recommend putting some sperm on ice. You can always have it destroyed later.

The procedure itself was simple, painless, and done on a out-patient basis. It did not take long and no pain was involved afterwards. A little discomfort for a few hours at most. The doctor recommend to act as though I was still fertile for about 2 weeks to get rid of everything, after that, all clear.

Do not do this on theory that it is reversible. It may not be. If you do this, treat as though it is permanent.

Did the check on a laboratory and even bought a cheap microscope to check it myself from time to time (but it's boring to discover nothing lol). 2 days till one week of slight pain. That was a year ago. Now I have a gf that never wants kids and it's fantastic. Best decision of my life.

I’ll be honest. I want kids more than anything. I think that desire has only increased since my miscarriage last year. But, getting my tubes tied has been a thought occasionally. I grew up a pipeliner’s daughter. These hard times hitting everyone now? I’ve seen them in my dads line of work. Almost none of this is new to me. I grew up knowing that others like my family were out on the streets. So when covid hit I knew that even more would end up living out of their vehicles. Little kids. And I broke down, 17 years old and I broke down thinking what kind of world this was to bring a child into. I debated getting my tubes tied then. But since losing a child I never got to meet, I can’t bring myself to rob me, my fiancé or a child of that chance. It’s a cruel world, yes, but we can’t let that rob us of what we want. If you want kids then you should have them. But if you don’t, then I don’t see a reason why you shouldn’t get a vasectomy

I thought about it too. But in my country its really hard to do this. You have to be past age 40 or 45( I dont remember the exact age the law states but at least over age 40) or, you have to be the father of at least minimum 3 children. So... even if I wanted to, I couldnt.

Had mine at 38, already had two sons. Actual OP was somewhat painful mainly because the numbing injection was poorly done (initially), second injection fixed that.

Did get an infection post OP (despite being fastidious with cleaning). 5 Days of ABS sorted that... since then no dramas. No effect on sex or orgasm at all.

So - follow the clinic/doctors instructions carefully. Don't over stress about it and don't play around down there for a fair few days post op... (you probably won't feel up to such anyway).... Overall I'd recommend, but bear in mind reversing the OP later is a doubtful proposition... once it's done consider that it's final. So DO think carefully about your decision.

Had mine at 28 after 3 kids at the local gp. I had pain for a few years. Noticeable change in texture, more watery, less sticky. Left side had more blue ball type pain. Right side was more painful during surgery (intertwined nerves) but came good quickly.

If I hadn’t had kids yet but wanted one, would definitely store some sperm if not cost prohibitive.

When I'm 21, (in 2 more years) I'm pretty sure. I'm gonna get a vasectomy cause I don't think I want kids. Plus I don't want to give a woman Half my shit (Child support) If I get a girl Pregnant Cause I'm Broke, and can't get a job (For getting kicked out of HS) and... I'm Probably never gonna be ready for kids. So yeah... That is just me. What is everyone's thoughts after reading this?
