Why not just do it like this. Let's say we need 10 employees. There are 30 people want to join. Just get the 10 best independently from gender. If it depends on gender, that's discrimination.

If I saw that on a hiring page, I would immediately scratch that job off my list. I can just imagine how toxic that work environment would be for men, regardless of whether you know your trade or not. Preaching equality and promoting women over men are two ideas that cannot coexist.

You know what really pisses me off? I was raised by, and grew up with, women. And I mean thousands of them. I have so many sisters and daughters I look after, and the husbands of the families and I have this sort of nod that says, "yeah, nobody is going to fuck with our ladies. Nobody."

I end up owning a bunch of companies and forming a bunch of partnerships using my end as the technology provider for organizations, services, products, etc., in damn near every industry in existence.

We have paid internships, job opportunities and posting - all of the usual suspects.

Seeing as I basically grew up as one of the girls, I am blind to sexism and discrimination. I've seen what people can do, men and women alike, and know there are bad asses on both teams. I focus on the bad ass, not their gender.

BUT LOOK, I'm not trying to dissuade women from applying or submitting their resumes...they just don't.

By the numbers, they just don't show up in my countless stacks of resumes.

This kind of crap really boils my blood because they're pulling potential talent forcibly through a funnel. No one benefits from this. You end up with a team that is Captain Planet levels of "balanced", but it's a shit team because the concept of "can they do the job" gets thrown out the window.

To date I've only hired one, just one, woman. Indian. Crackpot senior developer. Absolutely amazing.

And I'm sorry but it's not because I'm a sexist employer, it's because the ladies aren't showing up or putting their chips on the table.

These posting need to say one thing and one thing only, "we are gender neutral, so men and women alike, ante the fuck up, we're looking for assassins and we don't care what's between their legs, only what's behind their eyes."

The biggest tech university in my country (DTU) hosts visitation days and whatnot for only females once a month to make it more equal, while men can only join once a year were the visitation is gender neutral. It’s such bullshit.

From what I can tell this is how they remain legal. They never post a position saying "women only" or "people of color only". I stead it's always X is encouraged to apply.

But to treat any candidate different based on their sex or race is illegal in the US. This is part of the civil rights act.

So you can't outright say you are doing it.

It all rests on this central assumption: Men and women are not only equal but the same. As in, identical. The only thing that makes us different is the way we’re socialised. No differences, there’s nothing in our biology that could affect our psychology. Nothing.

Once you understand this, everything else falls into place. We just need to get 50% of women into male-dominated workplaces (by the same token we should also be pushing as hard to get men into female-dominated spaces but good luck expecting logic) for an unspecified amount of time. By any means necessary. Quotas, preferential hiring, whatever. Just get the numbers!

After this unspecified amount of time, society will be changed, and there will be no need for this social engineering. We will be socialising men and women the same. Doubleplusgood.

Yes, some individual men will have their career prospects stymied, but (repeat after me) ‘men have had it their own way for years, now they can see what it feels like’. You can’t make an omelette without destroying the careers of a few eggs…

Thing is there is inherent bias that men are better than women when all things are equal. So when hiring people with identical skills, men are hired on the premise they are better.

To counter that bias, there is a focus that in those cases, women should be hired. If that happens enough, I think that bias will stop, or at least be less.

Im germany the employers are forced to put this into their job offering if less than 50 %, employed are female.

Of course not regarding if for example there are less female engineers in general than male ones.

When theres decades of history of nearly only men being in the field, then gatekeeping the industry by blocking any concern whatsoever of a toxic sexist environment in these companies, I can understand why a company would create this listing
