Men are to blame for everything. For example, your father is to blame for patriarchy because he made such a misogynist as you.
And just in case someone doesn't get it: /s

I love their their thinking on this one:
Feminists: “Men created the ‘patriarchy’ to oppress women and benefit themselves”
Rational people: “but many men’s lives are hard too, increasingly excluded from higher education, most workplace deaths, excluded from family, most likely to be homeless, most likely to be victims of violence etc, etc”
Feminists: “The ’patriarchy’ is bad for men too! Feminism is about making things better for men as well as women, join our cause!”
So they go from “the ‘patriarchy’ is for the benefit of men” to “the ‘patriarchy’ is bad for men” the very next sentence.
Their logic is like that of a child - say whatever backs up your argument at that point in time, no coherency or consistency.

No woman in the history of feminism would ever say “feminism is about making things better for men and women,” it’s exclusively about making things better for women while tearing down men.

They don’t even pretend it’s anything other.
If you post a comment there which uses perfect reasonable logic to explain why for example something negatively affects men as well as women, you’ll be banned.
They want nothing other than “women are oppressed/have to overcome great difficulty to achieve” or “men are oppressors/violent/have everything handed to them on a plate at birth/have an amazing life regardless of what they deserve”.

[–]Philletto 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminists think Authority can only be bestowed to men because its a Patriarchy, but they refuse to acknowledge its a tough fight for any person to get to the top and women simply don't fight for respect, they think it should come free. How far worse must a Matriarchy be? More stabbings than a Shakespeare play.
[–]The_Best_01 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Even in a "patriarchy" women have the better deal, since despite them being discriminated against when it comes to positions of power and wealth, their lives are still regarded as more valuable, and they don't actually need to do anything, since men will provide for them anyway.

You can watch them do this in real time by finding an obscure issue and stat, reversing it and telling it to them. They'll rationalize how it's the mens fault.
Then you tell them actually the truth is the reverse of that stat I just told you.
They'll tell you it's still the mens fault.

Thing is, even when you point out that they came to this realisation when men are affected negatively, they would find or invent some reason that its some form of oppression when its supposedly women who are 'disadvantaged'. You can't win, its not about reality, its about being able to play the victim, and the 'empowerment' that comes with it since nowadays being a female victim is seen as a badge of honor

My guess is they will claim it's proof of sexism because women are getting better jobs at a younger age because they are more educated and therefore have more student loan debt! The student loan debt issue will then become their proof of sexism.
They will also argue that women only.out-earning men in that age bracket is proof of the glass ceiling for women 30 and over.
Finally, they will argue that men are "lazy" and failing to pull their weight in society. High earning young women being unable to find a similarly high earning young man will be cast as "where have all the good men gone?" And "why can't men grow up?"

Their identity is based on it and they cannot function without it. It's their primary means for understanding the world. To venture outside it is to go mad for them.
Ordinary humans without their mental illness posit as the foundational truth; "Cogito Ergo Sum.", the feminist posits; "Women are oppressed.". They may as well be a different species entirely. (Please note, only 20% of women are feminist.). No matter what facts you present them with, even if you entire change those set of facts to show the opposite later, they behave and believe the same things.
It is either intentional gaslighting, or a mental deficiency of somekind. There are no other explanations.

I don't think it's active dishonesty for most of them.
Think of all those studies that found a massive percentage of people read nothing more than the headline on an article ... far too many people are emotional thinkers who latch onto positions without evidence or support, and then defend them to the death with rationalizations and illogical arguments. They aren't educated, critical thinkers, and never will be.
That's most of humanity, unfortunately.

True. A lot of them are just simpletons that believe every propaganda piece thrown at them.
[–]PsychoPhilosopher 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's our ancestry at work. We're very good at being realistic, rational and experimental when it comes to physical objects and problems.
Using simple machines in complex ways, finding food, transporting ourselves and navigating we do some amazing and intelligent work.
We're just not so great as a species at the really abstract stuff.
Thinking rationally about something like 'gender' is near impossible. You can see it on this sub, there are plenty of men here who create an abstract label 'feminist' and post tweets and social media posts that conform to the stereotypes and beliefs attached to that label.
I'm not going to pretend I'm immune. If anything, through training etc.we can learn to adopt a range of equally stupid perspectives and abstractions and can flip between them. When searching for an ideal mindset people usually just end up "euphoric". Or in a cult.
The key then is to generate cognitive dissonance and give someone cause to question their old abstractions.
[–]The_Best_01 -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
We're not creating the abstract label of "feminists", they do that themselves. And the tweets that people post here (that admittedly people do way too much), are all from people that would probably describe themselves as a feminist.
Granted, there are a lot of self-described "feminists" who are actually egalitarians but they somehow rarely call out the kinds of stuff that sexist feminists say, which is why informed people perceive feminism negatively, because the latter variety of feminists are just allowed to say and do whatever they want with little criticism.
At the end of the day, it just comes down to ignorance. If self-described "feminists" who actually care about equality did their research about what feminism has done in practice, maybe they'd stop being feminists.
Also, men as a whole are good at thinking about abstract stuff, but I agree we are just as susceptible to cognitive biases and we should learn to limit them.
[–]PsychoPhilosopher 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Interesting...
I was referring to the abstract concepts possessed by the woman in the original post.
It's clear she's internalized the 'feminist' label and externalized the 'male' concept in a way that corresponds to 'feminist good/man bad'
[–]The_Best_01 -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's 20% of women engaged in this psychological violence. Why do you rule out dishonesty?20% is a fairly normal number for an authoritarian regime. If they were being physically violent it would be more obvious, but that's not how feminine violence works.
It's entirely possible they actively know what they are doing, are being dishonest, and are simply playing word games and gaslighting men in order to keep them in line. It's consistent with the evidence in front of us.
Either that or we have to assume some kind of innate inferiority, but the problem is, there's women MRAs and beyond that, most women aren't feminists.
For physically violent regimes it's obvious to say, whites, that blacks are being oppressed because the whites are in uniform and beating them. For psychologically violent regimes it's harder because the enforcers identify themselves through shibboleths and dogwhistles, and the violence is based around ostracization, demonization, keeping people isolated and afraid to speak, and the psychological violence relies on DARVO and gaslighting in the first place.
Emphasis, mine.
I don't 'rule out' anything.

The people who spout this bullshit are no more sentient than children. They only deal with what's right in front of them because that's the only thing they can process. The difference being, that the other wage gap is caused by women having the privilege to marry up, work less hours and spend time with kids.
This wage gap is caused by women having affirmative action in their favour. Yet they still generally refuse to marry down.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This statistic comes from the UK where affirmative action is illegal. Also I would not consider giving up a career to look after kids a privilege, even if it is, men can and do the same thing, it's becoming increasingly common. There's not actually much evidence as to whether they want to or would rather work.
[–]TC1827 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
where affirmative action is illegal
Really. I was under the impression that the UK, being very socially liberal, had affirmative action as Canada and the US do.
men can and do the same thing, it's becoming increasingly common
In theory. But a lot of women still want men who outearn them and can take care of them shall they choose to take time off work. Men are still pressured into being breadwinners
Yes, really.
True, men do feel pressure to stay working, women often feel similar pressure but inversely. Women who go back to work full time with a young baby at home are applauded by some, just as SAH Dads are, but shamed by others for being bad mothers.
If you feel strongly that you'd like to be the one to stay at home with the kids/do 50/50 then it's important to find someone with the same core values as you. Granted, someone might change their mind, but I think the reality is these discussions often don't take place until the relationship is well down the line.
I don't want to stay at home with the kids, certainly not full time, I have made this very clear from the outset when I date. It's annoying because talking about kids is often seen as desperate, like you're suggesting you try for them on date 4 but better that than finding out too late.
The person who gives up their career to look after kids should be "paid for" by the other partner because it's often cheaper than childcare and presumably they also wanted kids.

It's not necessarily a hard work thing. In proportion to the genders as a whole, more men tend to choose STEM fields and more women tend to choose humanities. Many women also have to consider jobs that will allow them to be more flexible due to pregnancy and child rearing. The facts are the facts, women that give birth to a child will need more time off than a man who's wife has a child, even if the woman just takes time off to give birth and recover. That time off stalls career growth. Multiplied over multiple children, it can seriously put back a career. Men have a biological advantage over women in the work place by not physically having their own pregnancies ever. It's not anyone's fault, it's not reasonable to subsidize women picking humanities in greater numbers or having pregnancies. It would be reasonable to give men paternity leave in the same amount as maternity leave.

Well she is responding to support to "TakedownMRA's" refutation about there still being a wage gap. So youre right its a stretch but I dunno if Id call it a big one.
If we're going to stretch and assume she isnt a feminist I dunno if we can also stretch and say she is a woman. Sure she looks like one but we dont know that either do we?
or maybe it really doesnt matter who she is specifically.
I took a quick look at her Twitter. She alerts TakeDown to some conservative shitpost, she attacks Trump, she attacks the price of medication ( she's right on that one,) she complains that girls are taught to be second fiddle, so it's safe to say she's a feminist.
[–]AskingToFeminists -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wouldn't have called that support, as she is questioning the validity of the wage gap statistics while takedown is claiming it is valid.
Someone else said she seemed to be on his side often, though I haven't seen anybody claiming that she was defending the wage gap Stat in other circumstances. So while she seem to be a feminist, I'm not yet sure about the hypocrisy thing. Cristina Hoff summer is a feminist yet she debunks the wage gap too.

It’s said a lot on here that women don’t equal feminists however often when a woman says anything she’s assumed to be a feminist
[–]ddl_smurf 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
To be fair, she did put forth an essentially sexist theory with no basis whatsoever. The theory justifying the usual western wage gap is also discriminating in sex, but actually has data supporting doing so that doesn't insinuate sexism. That's why you don't see serious economists preoccupied by the wage gap. There is one aspect of the wage gap that's fundamentally unfair, the cost of bearing children which should be spread around more equitably and isn't, but a gap in those young ages, when people have made less personal choices, to me is indicative of an issue, the same way young boys in school underperforming doesn't reflect so much on young boys as it should on the schools. That she be feminist matters not, that she is advancing unfounded and prejudiced theories openly does.
She did indeed, however that doesn’t make her a feminist automatically

Not everybody got a Twitter account. I have better things to do than waste my time on such a platform, and am not even interested in trying to understand the detail of how it works enough to be able to do what you suggest. If it disappeared off the internet, I would consider it a net gain.
I never said that she wasn't a feminist. I said that this post didn't contain enough information for me to judge in any direction. Anything presented without sufficient evidence can be dismissed as such. All I did was ask for enough evidence to warrant that I firm an opinion on the matter. The op is the one that seems to care about the subject. It's his role to provide that evidence. I won't go give clicks to Twitter just because he is too lazy to show enough to warrant the reaction he wants us to have.

She's jumped into a debate about feminists favourite bugbear with a defence of why the wage gap that favours women exists mentioning nothing of why the age groups with wage group that favours men exist.
I mean it's possible she was just doing so from a totes neutral standpoint but personally not sure.
Looked her up. She whines about girls being taught to be second fiddle players, and hates Trump.

Is that really true, though? I’m on the wrong end of a wage gap?

Woof...
r/selfawarewolves material right there.
And honestly the arguments on this do work well from both sides because our data is not ideal for determining the current state of the wage gap. It could be (and likely is) different in different industries, and doing a holistic view of all professions by gender eschews the nuance necessary to determine the PERCENTAGE OF FIELDS where gender bias plays a role in different industries.
Honestly what's always driven me nuts about this debate is how rare it is for people to admit that our data makes understanding this topic extremely difficult to come to a fair conclusion on - regardless of which side you are on. *sigh*

most contentious issues are held at a deadlock due to some bullshit statistic that no one knows how to properly break down and distil any relevant info from. There are lies, damn lies, and then there are statistics. to probably get that quote super wrong.

The wage gap boils my blood because it's so ignorant toward how wage setting works. We're not making widgets. Nobody in the world has the same exact experience as I do, and different employers will value that in different ways.
If an employer is a jerk and purposefully lowballs Jenny, they don't enjoy the benefits of Jenny's labor. Period. There's not some grand colusionary conspiracy to deflate female wages when there are seats to fill and needs to meet. And if Jenny accepts wage Y or doesn't change jobs to get wage Z, whose fault is that?
But we eat this sh-t up. It's sad.

I think that’s actually because single women are valued higher, than single men. Just like married men are valued higher than single women. Being married, and the stigma of marriage according to each gender plays a part. If the man were married he would earn more, and if the woman were married she might earn the same or less because she’s seen as a house wife. None of this is okay to do, but it’s what happens. Your marital relations according to how society perceived it to each gender shouldn’t be important.

Women get jobs out out of school teaching, or as assistants much easier than men, not to mention those customer service people in their 20s make more than office jobs around the same age.
In their 30s in changes as men continue to advance in their careers, while women either stay where they are (assistant, teacher, etc) or quit the workforce all together to be a stay at home mother.
Now none of this is bad, or wrong. People are allowed to make their own decisions
