It was not a hug or kiss that prompted the school to contact the family. Also, at no time did the school administration punish the child or treat the incident as a discipline issue. Moreover, no one at the school sought to label the child as “a sexual predator.”

Hamilton County Schools is bound by student privacy laws that do not allow us to discuss publicly specific details of what happened in the classroom setting with the child. Of course, at the family's direction and with their written approval, the district would be able to provide to interested parties documentation of the issues the school discussed with them.

The staff at East Ridge Elementary always elects to take action that places the concern for the child as their top priority - which is also required by our district policies and state laws. School leaders are only interested in the well-being of this very young child as he grows and learns with his classmates. The faculty and staff will continue to ensure that this child and every child in our care receives an excellent education in a safe, supportive learning environment."

I think there's a clear line between affection (which is what children at this age show) and sexual harrassment. This little boy wasn't grabbing ass, he was showing affection and being his sweet innocent self. Now I know that it's not agreeable this was done to a classmate but at the same time kids at this age are not aware of sexuality therefore even if this were harrassment, the punishment doesn't fit.

But the school is speaking like there's more to it than what's exoressed. And even if there is, does that justify the schools actions? Since when did we start not allowing children a chance to learn from their behavior and better themselves? Any kid at that age is a handfull, let alone a child with disabilities.

Whether or not this is true, autistic kids should be treated separate as other children and their teachers should be held to separate rules. My friend was a teacher and a kid attacked her. She has a black eye, pushed him off and ran away. She was let go for ‘hitting’ a child. Later I had friends with a child with downs that was in a home to try to get him adjusted to life. If he was upset he would scream and hit things. Not usually people, mostly the air and a halfway wall punch. Teachers shouldn’t be reprimanded for defending themselves and kids with actual disorders need treatment that those teachers provide.
