Having "special privileges" for a group of employees just creates division.

If you are going to have it, just add one day of "personal leave" per month. Covers religious festivals, etc. as well.

The issue here appears to be a US multinational operating in what is probably some "progressive" country trying to get workplace participation rates for women up.

Looked up her response and of course it was supporting giving a medical leave day to just one group. Just give everyone a personal day a month and be done with it.

Why "period leave", when really this is sick leave. The problem isn't the one complained of in the OP. It's the claim that females are entitled to additional benefits on the basis of being female.

Of course, women reject the idea that men are also impact by hormone fluctuations and sex based health uissues. They insist men just suck it up, while also insisting women should be compensated for their biological functions.

Don't give anybody anything. Use your annual leave, sick leave that you already have. Else, it's not equality. Rules should not be bent to benefit only one gender. It should cut BOTH WAYS.

Example: Lowering requirements for army should be extended to men also.

You want a menstrual leave?? It's discriminatory for men as they are now technically having to work more for the same pay.

My period pain is extremely bad. Sometimes it’s bad enough to send me to the ER. I know I’m not alone in this issue. I don’t see why I couldn’t just use sick leave for it. But if I use all my sick leave because of period pain don’t get mad at me when I rock up to work with the flu lol.

I don’t really think there needs to be period pain leave. Periods aren’t actually supposed to be painful to the point of hospitalisation/unable to do regular things - I’m in the middle of being diagnosed with endometriosis which explains my pain. If anything workplaces should be encouraging women to go to the doctor if their period pain is so unbearable

This is kind of a double edged sword. On one hand, equality means everyone should have a right to the same amount of sick days depending on their jobs and how much time they spend on them. On the other he was clearly misusing those days considering he didn't seem to have any grave reasons to not be at work (unless there were some family problems or the like, and he didn't tell anyone.) But bear in mind that women might also misuse this day and then say "oh it was my period day!"

How about just giving employees a flexible health related leave policy and reign it in for employees who abuse it. You don’t need any special health related reasons like, stomach pain day or period leave. It’s honestly kind of ridiculous that they did this and spent years lobbying for it. To be clear, I’m not saying it’s ridiculous that a woman who is impacted so much she can’t work because of an excessive period, I’m saying the sick days policy should be flexible enough that she can use it for that reason and the period leave doesn’t need to exist.

thing is, giving it to men as a universal day off solves both the issues she faces, it will 1. mean women do not need to disclose their health status, they are just using their day off, and 2 it fixes the legal issues presented by inequality by making everything equal.

Im not even opposed to women getting an extra day off for their period. i wouldnt be upset if my co workers were getting day for that, cause i dont have to deal with that and id rather not deal with pain than get a day off, but giving it to everyone is the most fair thing that keeps the company out of possible legal issues. so its a win win, unless you hate men and dont want them to have nice things too.

This is what happens when you start changing systems that worked just to cater to a group that thinks they're being oppressed and need special privileges. Eventually you're going to open up doors to other questions which have serious implications and are difficult to answer.

This article/letter is the perfect example. Should women get the option to take off the day due to menstrual pain? Sure, why not, they have to deal with it and weren't asked if they wanted.

But it becomes particularly curious when this is asked by a group that always wants to have more equality (?) - because the implication is that men will also get similar no-questions-asked leaves, and eventually it will be abused. Tough luck.

I do believe in equal rights, however there has been a lot of bias against men when it comes to custody matters. If you have a penis between your legs during a custody dispute It's like the Monopoly game. "Go directly to jail, do not pass go or collect $200. As a matter of fact, every week will take out $200 out of your paycheck for 19 years. After taxes, other deductions you're left at a poverty level meanwhile your child is being alienated from you from a spiteful parent that's "not a male" meanwhile you only get to spend time with your child 30% of the time IF you're lucky. Instead of being looked at as fathers, we become the dad the child rarely sees, end up siding with the mother's lies and other BS meanwhile we become just a personal piggy bank, nothing else. Now that's inequality. Until you deal with a situation like that, having to wipe your child's tears (including your own) after every short visit with you that doesn't want to go back to Mom, asks questions (coming from a 3 year old) "daddy, why do you leave me?" After having to explain that conversation with your child that you have nurtured from birth, maybe then we could talk about your mild issues by being granted an extra day off of work. Give me a break.. I would love to have those types of problems when it comes to bias unequal privileges in life.

But for now, let's hear it from the world's smallest violin.
