Actually, it's not. That comparison has been around for decades, and it's usually quite well accepted that trashy romance novels are female porn (which probably explains why the trashy romance novel industry is about as prolific and lucrative as the porn business).

I get a little skeptical whenever people describe female sexual desire as "singular." Actually, in comparison to men, women tend to get physically aroused by pretty much anything sex-related: naked men, naked women, even gorillas fucking.

Studies such as this one show that female self-report regarding sexual arousal does not correlate with biological markers. In other words, as a female, my subjective experience of sexual arousal most likely does not sync up with biological markers.

Really, I'm not sure what I'd do if my forebrain was as omnisexual as my vagina most likely is (based on preexisting research, not experimentation -- I've never undergone vaginal photoplethysmography myself.) I'm actually pretty particular about what I find sexy.

Coincidentally, the girl in the photo you linked to looks a lot like a friend of mine who had a very sexy forebrain. We never officially "fucked" but we messed around a lot naked, talking dirty and telling twisted stories.

Desperation is not the only reason that men (and women like myself) have sex with overweight people. Sometimes we just genuinely have different priorities in the bedroom. I'm not talking about "love" or "trust" or "friendship" or some bullshit (although those bullshit things are admittedly important), and I'm not talking about fat people with nice personalities (there are plenty of nice fat people whom I wouldn't look twice at), nor am I talking about fat as aesthetically appealing (a little in the right places can be nice but too much fat just obscures the body underneath.) I'm talking about the weird-but-fun, very person-specific shit that we kink on, and how awesome it can be when you meet someone who thinks like you do about sex.

Tl;dr summary: girls are weird, fat is not a deal-breaker, and kink can be fun.

I don't think the female drive for variety/novelty is as apparent, because women, in a vacuum, have lower sex drives. However, people have to forget the idea that women as a group are wired to pair bond for life, just because we as a culture idealize "happily ever after". This is not based on the biological imperative of either sex, it's based more on our economic needs and desire for kinship and deep emotional bonds.

A typical courtship in the EEA would last until children were weaned and in a less intensive phase of their growth cycle. There is a lull in the growth rate of children that coincides with the length of a typically courtship in hunter-gathers. It occurs around 6-9 years old. Keep in mind that it was normal for child not to be fully weaned until 4 or 5 years old.

Testing shows hunter-gather women bringing an average of 6 children to term, with half surviving childhood, and an average of 2-3 fathers. Modern women are also more likely to report waning sexual passion towards their partners after a few years.

Most of the evo-psyche branded supposition about gender that is propagated in the man-o-sphere is based on "working backwards" from western cultural model, not observations about how humans actually live under the circumstances that most closely parallel the majority of human natural history. The result is tautology and shoehorning what the speculator wants to be true.

Humans, both males and females, are serial monogamists with some promiscuity and polygyny mixed in. Romance novels use a fantasy that combines passion with the secure feeling of permanence, but this only attends to those emotional needs, it does not reflect female behavior in action.

A general rule of thumb which you could use as a corollary to briffault's law when applying to men instead of women would be:

"When there are no options for fertility, the male will either not pursue a relationship, or terminate the relationship"

Granted, it isn't a 100% rule by any means. But if a woman is infertile (too old, fat, ugly) or if she will not have sex then many men will walk away.

Like Briffault's law it isn't meant to be a 100% set in stone for 100% of situations. Lots of men stick with women who are too old or ugly to be fertile, and many men stay with frigid women. But it is a good rule of thumb.

Briffault's law is a observation that women make predictive choices about current states rather than past benefits or future possibilities.

Male or female, if you aren't self-aware enough to see past your own selfishness, then yes. I don't see the connection to porn though.

You seem to have misunderstood the main idea behind Briffault's Law.

The linchpin of Briffault's Law is the female's lack of innate loyalty to her mate. Once a male ceases to provide her with perceptible benefit, so shall her association with him also cease.

Women are ill-equipped to extract their survival directly from nature, and require that a strong mate do it for them. If at any point she perceives him as being too weak to assume this role, she will leave him and find another who can.
