Remind yourself of all the reasons that it would never have worked out, and you would ultimately be incompatible. Often when we have a crush we fall for a fantasy more than we fall for a person (since we may not know them all that well), and we get carried away with the fantasy, and attached to an imagined outcome.

If we allow ourselves to come back down to reality, we see that that there was never going to be a future since that person never felt the same way about us, and life with someone who doesn't like us is no fantasy life at all. If that logic doesn't eventually help you get over the crush, then it means you've got some kind of wound/insecure need for that person specifically to approve you. It's never a healthy sign to be attached to the approval of someone who is disinterested in you.

Not extreme, but the methods that have helped me the most were self reflection, journalling and introspection. That brought me to a place of acceptance. Which once honed, became habit.

I'm not sure if one can accelerate this bit of male wisdom. But maybe.

The thing is that most youthful infatuations are built on hormone and chemical surges. The feelings go beyond just lust, but there is an erotic longing at the core.

So what I'm saying is that it is unlikely she was THAT special, she just felt that way because you were hopped up on biological chemicals designed to make you breed. It's possible that she was THE ONE, or one of the few ONES. But unlikely. If she was that special, then you are fucked. Gonna be hard to get over. Will just take time.

But if you can see that she really wasn't all that unique, and that being high on body chemistry had you exaggerating other feelings, then it gets easy to get over. And you can do this without having to slander her, even in your own mind. She may have been a great girl. Just wasn't a fit for you at this juncture. There will be others.

This is going to sound extreme, but I essentially had to kill myself.

And by that I meant killing my old self.

The old self who thought “she’s too sweet and caring to do that”

The old self that believed the lie that “women are wonderful”

The old self that believed “women just want a good, respectful guy”

The old self that thought it wasn’t just “my turn”

The old self that thought walking away from a girl I cared about was too “cruel”

The old self that thought that maintaining “options” in the form of female friends that found me attractive was some kind of “betrayal” while she had several male equivalents.

And mostly the old self who had let my entire identity, life course and social life revolve around “us” as a couple.

That was a mistake I will never make again because it created a hole from which it took years to dig out and forge a new identity of my own.

That new independent identify is completely separate from any one woman and women’s validation in general and I guard it fiercely.

Should I have done this in the first place?

Yes. But that isn’t you get when you’re raised by women and only learn to prioritize their interests and feelings look down on male interests and feelings as being primarily and immoral.

If it's someone you dated give yourself like a rot 72 hours to a week. Journal about it/call someone and talk about it then after that get under someone else ASAP (make sure you're clear about the casualness of this).

If that's not a possibility go out, hang out with friends, put yourself in social settings, being alone with your thoughts is going to be tough for a while so I would genuinely try to have atleast one place to go a day. Particularly on weekends, having one activity or social event to go to on weekends keeps you from spending 48 hours alone with your thoughts.

Make playlists about your varied emotional states, (I recommend a "fuck this girl I don't need a girl friend/this was for the best" playlist and a "I wanna be sad and in my feels about this" playlist) Then go work out/do yoga/go outside while listening to these.

Dedicate spending some time atleast once a day to being outdoors (I walk to decompress and reset constantly it really makes a difference).

If it's not gonna cause drama I recommend blocking but if that's too extreme I'd hide their posts so they aren't constantly showing up on your feed and triggering painful reminders.

These things help but the only thing that will actually work is time.

If they look good, they likely look better than you, if you crush on them because they're thoughtful they are likely too thoughtful for you

Have fun by yourself and do the things you have always wanted to do. This will subconsciously teach you that you can find joy without this other person and will make it easier for you to get over them. I did this when a girl I liked hooked up with my friend. I bought a bicycle, started a philosophy club, and went out with my friends weekly. Within 2 months, I was feeling free.

There're 8 billion people on the planet. Your crush not getting with you is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe when you factor in that you have a literal 100 million potential suitors out there in the world who would be interested in you.

The reason rejection sucks so bad is because we put ourselves in the center of the equation and then get upset when the answer isn't what we expected.

In other words, when you get a crush, make efforts to set boundaries and remind yourself that they shit just like you and it stinks like hell afterwards lol. That their breath stinks and they burp and get crusty eyes after sleeping. Basically, you humanize them to the point that you can live without them if things don't work out.
