I’m not talking about the type that explodes at women after rejection but the attitude that precludes such acts. The blog post about the nice guy virgin the other day implied an attitude that I think many of these men have.

They appear to view male sexuality as imposing. It seems they loathe or abhor being seen as bothersome to women by intruding on them like other guys do. This they have defined as the delineation that separates themselves as nice guys from the rest.

It’s no wonder then that they believe nice guys finish last. The gendered expectation on men is to approach and escalate. I’d argue it’s not unreasonable for them to come to the conclusion that such gendered expectations are not only inherently or morally wrong, but literally imposing.

I’m leaning towards the idea the premise of nice guys are actually correct. Male sexuality is indeed imposing, you just can’t care that it is. Their execution is wrong though. Men have to accept the fact that they will inevitably approach and/or escalate at the wrong time and be rejected, and that’s okay. If your job is to approach and escalate, then you will inherently be imposing. Like a door-to-door salesman, you will impose your presence on homeowners and get many rejections. (And obviously, you shouldn’t explode on the homeowner after rejection)

So where does the truth lie? Is male sexuality and the gendered roles and expectations wrong and does this dynamic make it imposing on women?
