Edit2: Thank you all, I am definitely in a different place with this than I was when I wrote it. It's been a really long process to undo a lot of the damage that has been done to me but y'all helped me break this down and process smaller pieces of it. If you read my responses below it’s like I gradually become a different person altogether. Yeah, I am still calibrating a bit, this was written from a place of being pissed about situations I’ve been in but there’s not a lot of universality here- which should be a clue for me because every time I start talking about “things some people do” I’m just talking about myself and externalizing it. Just because my exes weaponized left/social justice beliefs to hurt people doesn’t mean those beliefs are inherently bad. (one of them even deliberately and methodically ruined the academic career of the guy she tried to leave me for because he didn’t want to date her, with the help of the woman she did leave me for who was also banging him. I married that one. Fuck.) This is all a puzzle and there are some pieces stuck together that aren’t actually meant to. And as I am able to separate them I can make more and more sense of it.

Edit1: I changed the main point section to say performativity, not performative wokeness. That just happens to be what my environment encourages performance of. Leaving the rest, but it’s flavor for the broader theme of being inauthentic and grounds what I’m saying in a relatable experience. Relatable because we all have connection to the broader social debate around it, regardless of where you stand.

The main point I want to debate is this: Performativity is not going to get you laid and pretty much every man doing it is just trying to conform to what they think women want.

You know how pretty much every conversation ever these days involves people interjecting whatever political/gender/race/whatever issue at every opportunity? And how pretty much everyone has to pretend to agree with all of this nonsense and avoids saying anything that could hint that maybe you are not a full-fledged comrade?

If not, awesome. You're already passed this.

If this sounds familiar, I'm guessing in your social groups there might also be a person who is "an asshole" who is also successful with women. Is he really an asshole, or is he just not following the same set of rules you are? Meanwhile, you, the good little agent of social justice (because you've learned the dance and know how to give people the impression that you're not a nazishitlordtrumpistblablabla), sits in the corner sadly stroking your dingaling.

Yes, you can get girls (or people with vaginas who have a new gender every week and like to weaponize it) by being a crusader for whatever cause is popular right now, but they will be the kind of people who are constantly checking everyone for unclean opinions. And the cracks will form and eventually she's gonna think you're some kind of abusivegaslightmisogynistblablabla.

Fuck. That. I did this stupid dance for way too long and I honestly did not buy any of it. And I'm willing to bet a lot of men out there are in the same boat I was in. I'm a libertarian, always have been, secretly posted about it on reddit when I was married to a person who was a trendy communist. Literally, I would have a conversation where I had to pretend I thought the shit she was saying sounded good, and then hop on to a reddit account and express the exact opposite and troll people who shared my ex-wife's views.

You may think you agree with some of the more extreme lefty shit, but how did you get there? Think about what made you start reading the Communist Manifesto or whatever. I know when I started reading up on it, it was just so I could navigate the minefield conversations of the mediocre women I wanted to fuck.
