I think the potential to cheat in both sexes can be simplified into three categories. There's the saying that a man is only as faithful as his options, but I the reality it's a combination of which category you're in, combined with your options.

First of all there are some people who would never cheat no matter what. This may be a tiny percentage of people, it's impossible to know but let's assume they exist. The problem is you have no way of knowing who these people are so it's best to assume that all people belong to one of the other two categories.

Then there are people who will cheat indiscriminately. Men and women who will sleep with someone who is less attractive than their partner, just for variety or for the thrill of cheating. These are the men who are sex addicted, huge sluts with mental health issues, etc. and they should be fairly easy to spot and avoid.

Finally there are people who would cheat hypergamously. Many people would cheat if the circumstances were right and they knew they would never get caught, if the person was significantly more attractive than their partner. Many people in this category will never get that opportunity though so they might appear to be in category one even though the potential to cheat exists within them.

The problem is that it's much easier for women to have casual sex with someone better than her than it is for men. So I would speculate that more women have the opportunity to be in category three.
