Vanity Fair, Far From The Madding Crowd, Emma & Little Women, 4 novels written by women nonetheless, where the 'Beta Billy got the girl' What does this imply?

Now, I am aware ya'll will say that these novels are centuries old, but some things remain universal.

In all these stories, the woman falls for the 'Chad', gets hurt, and finally realizes she will be happiest with that well-meaning male friend, who had always looked out for her. Or the readers think she will fall for the dashing and handsome male suitor but surprisingly ends up with someone more homely.

Vanity Fair

Amelia Sedly (one of the main characters), falls for the handsome and magnetic Captain George Osbourne and marries him. While he doesn't mistreat her, she never feels appreciated or really desired by him (except once).

Before he leaves for the military, he spends the night with her. It is implied that this is the first and last time she felt truly desired by him. Osbourne dies in the Battle Of Waterloo, she gives birth to his son.

She remains his mourning widow for about 12 years and ignores Osbourne's friend William Dobbin, who has come to love her and had been a pillar of support.

Eventually, she came to know that her late husband had been a philanderer and had even hit on her friend Becky Sharp. She finally appreciates Dobbin's love and marries him.

Note that Amelia was not a Stacey.

She was not the popular cheerleader type. She is described as cute, and pretty, a bit bland, rather than smouldering hot. And she is also more religious and sedate than the protagonist Becky. Think Rory Gilmore rather than peak Megan Fox. Solidly above average, but not a bombshell.

Far From The Madding Crowd

Now this is the story of a Victorian Stacey. Bathsheba Everdeen, a young, beautiful, and wealthy farmer has three suitors - her loyal employee and friend Gabriel Oak, a 40-year-old prosperous farmer named Boldwood, and a young, good looking and debonair Francis Troy. She eventually marries Troy.

She quickly realizes that he has no interest in farming and that he had a sweetheart - her maid Fanny Robin, whom he had been unable to marry die to a misunderstanding. Fanny dies in childbirth and Troy becomes devastated. He abandons her.

He eventually returns but is killed by Boldwood, who is given a life sentence.

Bathsheba eventually marries Oak.

Emma

Emma, a high society beauty, looks through various eligible suitors throughout the book and finally realizes she does indeed care for Mr. Knightley, her sensible friend.

Little Women

All along readers are led to believe that the heroine Jo March will walk off in the sunset with her handsome, flirty and charming best friend Laurie Lawrence, but she doesn't. She falls in love with Fritz Bhaer a German Professor, who is 15 years her senior, is poor, and not at all handsome.

So yes, 4 literary instances where the nice guy gets the girl.
