Honestly a lot of people employ the same tactics every now and then even subconsciously.. because it works.

A nice balance of tension (playful teasing) and affection (leaning more towards being a decent person; not an asshole) keeps things tingly.

Yeah, me too. My male friends tend to show more interest in me when I'm alternate between being sweet and slightly dismissive. I don't do it deliberately, but it's a pattern I've noticed.

Feigning disinterest is immature and short sighted. They may be more eager for your approval at first, but soon they'll expect you to stop acting stuck up.

The problem isn't being too sweet or opening up too much, it's probably just that when you do there is more tendency to reveal some legit incompatibility.

Depends a lot on your area and the general attitude of dudes around there. These days if women aren't bitches they're too clingy and needy but if they're bitches they're time wasters and playing hard to get. You can't win.

I'm guessing by "being sweet" you mean "being a clingy doormat". A lot of men don't like that, though some certainly do (but you probably don't notice those). It gives us very little time to get to know you and may make us suspect that maybe you're not entirely stable, or have low self-esteem if you seem obsessed with one particular guy you don't know very well.

Also, teasing is fun, it's not rude, as long as you do it with a smile. I'm guessing since you're not naturally bitchy your interest in the guy still shows through your body language when you try to act bitchy or aloof, that's kind of endearing.

Women shit test men they are attracted to, and completely ignore or act apathetic towards guys they have no interest in. Even a guy who has never heard of the redpill will be able to identify a pattern of behavior that says "girl giving me shit=girl who is attracted to me" and it increases interest.

Maybe some guys can misread genuine negative attitude, but most girls are at least a little bitchy and rude towards guys before they put out, just to test their frame a little bit first.

The women I remember and respect in the work place can "hang" with the guys. Instead of apologizing for sexist comments, they double down on them. Helps pass the time. It's not about equal outcome, it's about equal opportunity - that's how tribes stay strong.

However, there are ways it can go awry; the bitch can pick on the weakest link and no one else in order to gain approval from the alphas, or one of the alphas can "get the wrong idea" about the playful banter and invite some unwelcome attention.

Just know your audience.

Can you dress up as a guy and see if the same stuff happens when they think you're male, or a butch lesbian?

If it does, it may indicate that the effect you observe is not based on courtship.

When you give some people the impression they're not worth your time or energy, or 'above' them, something in them just has to prove you wrong, prove themselves worthy, conquer you, tame you, etc. It works with more people than would like to admit it, male and female.

The other insight I would suggest is that people are actually more emotionally linked when engaged in argument than when being formally nice to each other. The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The simple fact that you're getting their attention in some way means you top being forgettable.
