Finding translations are not hard. In fact, you're supposed to have one. How did the husband even learn to pray since that's Arabic as well. You need a transliteration at the least to memorize off of. And since when did Islam or any Abrahamic religion allow polyandry? Cheers, thanks for that. It is interesting to note, that in the case of Islam, and much of Christianity, most of the common folk had no real knowledge. Much of religion, as much as Dicky Dawkins would say otherwise, is actually political. Even though I don't deny religion, is it more a result of a people, even though it can change. For hundreds of years the Caliphates and Ottomans were based around taxing Christians and other groups, it is funny as most Muslims that exist probably switched due to advantages or desperation. For the most part Islam, from what I know was a political advantage. The fact that Mohammad's history was invented over a hundred years after he actually was meant to exist seems to point to this. Even though, Muslims have many admirable qualities that the West could look to, I don't believe the religion was a whole is the answer.

Sounds interesting. But the simple fact remains, from what I've read, effectively all references of Muhammad in the Quran are a blank 'praised one' which could also mean Jesus. There are only one or two instances where it could mean the actual person we know as Mohammad. My understanding is that there are whole large passages in the Quran that come from Christian hymns. Add to that the book in general is just painful to read. If English translations cannot make it sound good, then my guess is that the originals are far worse. Does any other religion give excuses like, "you need to read it in the original language" like Islam does? Hinduism, Confucianism, Judaism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism? I don't think so. All of those I can learn something from with even the translation done by competent professionals.

Actually the original Arabic is rhymed and metered and scholars claim it is quite beautiful. They claim the Koran loses a lot in the translation for some strange reason. Hmm, why wouldn't God's word sound awesome in any language? A big clue perhaps lies in the fact that Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon, and the entire New Testament sure do.

Well, there is a bit of a problem there. The Arabic of the 7th century is far more different to than the one we use today. The old Arabic, the one with which the Quran is written is the true and original one. so to understand the Quran you need to read it, because the translation was done by translators who have ignored important linguistic rules.

Mohammed Shahrour collaborated with a linguist and came up with new readings of the Quran. I hope to find enough time in the future to be able to do a complete translation.

My understanding is that there are whole large passages in the Quran that come from Christian hymns.

I disagree and agree at the same time. The Quran is only an extension of the Bible. It is a sort of update of what has been stated in the former version. Most of the basic human laws can be traced to the Bible. The Quran brought about what Shahrour calls the 'limits'. Let's killed someone by accident and I murdered someone else. We both killed and the sentence for it is death. The limits operate like the judicial system wroks. I get hanged and you get 3 to 20 years. Also, there is misunderstanding of the theft sentence. Most people believe that it is to imputation, but it's not. The verb that means to cut has been confused with the verb that means to constrain. And so instead of the verse to mean " cut their hands off" it becomes " Restrain him from doing harm again".

Anyway, I can provide you with a PDF of the book. The author himself posted it on his website. Cool guy.

I am not sure how much you know about Islam or the state of Muslims so I am going to be a bit detailed. This is a RedPill forum, I don't want to discuss religion here but I need to say this.

Well, given that I actually have studied Islam in college (unlike the lying wife) and prior, I know quite a bit. Religious history/theology was a passion of mine (still is, i just dont spend time on it). I agree with most your observations, except the part about Hadith and Quran. Layman are allowed to read Hadith, they're encouraged to since that's a guidebook for one's lifestyle /actions. Yet at the same time they're supposed to consult the Ulema on which hadith are weak and which are legit. It's not necessarily to keep them in businesses per se. You just admit it yourself, people misuse weak Hadith to support their own actions.

I think this is a very regional problem unique to your place that only Hafiz and Alims are reading Quran/Hadith and not the average Joe. The two are supposed to work in tandem, just because the Professor is the guy giving the lecture in college doesn't mean the student doesn't pick up a book at home. To make a simple analogy.

I recently discovered TRP now that I'm 32, but I took the red pill with regards to religion back when I was 18 thanks to the internet. This was before there was so much bullshit like Facebook & stupid cat memes that people waste their time with. Gaming machines were expensive and online games were laggy & I didn't have much money, so I spent most my time online on discussion forums reading about things, learning, and engaging in discussions that foster critical thinking skills. The internet really lets you get out of your local echo chambers and exposes you to viewpoints articulated in ways that you would never otherwise be exposed to.

I would in all likelihood still be a blue-pill Christian to this day if I wasn't exposed to this gauntlet to put my previously held assumptions through and forge them in the heat of rational scrutiny where the impurities burn away and all that remains is a tempered & battle hardened Occam's Razor to cut away all the bullshit with.

Open your eyes and try to understand my comment about Nazi Germany and USSR was about totalitarianism. This is precisely what the US is morphing into. Something out of Huxley and Orwell.

As for the whole black vs white thing, the US should have never entered the war to begin with. WW2 was simply a continuation of WW1. A war over nothing. Breaking up Austria-Hungary and putting all war debt onto Germany's shoulder, meant someone like Hitler would be the one to "save" Germany and unite the lands. Not to mention the breaking up of the Ottoman Empire by UK/France and instilling puppet monarchies (and dividing Syria along religious lines), directly resulted in the Baathist/Nasserist revolutions to overthrow those oppressive monarchies in Libya, Iraq, Syria & Egypt, which in turn led to the Islamist insurgencies to overthrow those very Baathists/Nasserists. It's a vicious cycle that started during WW1 and continues to this day.

This is so common it's not even funny. My ex wife got into Christianity shortly after we married and I followed suit. For awhile I really believed it. Read my bible, went to church, did bible studies with other Christians and so on.

Most of them have no idea what their own holy book really has to say.
