You need to get rid of the 'strings attached' mentality.

If you're doing a hobby for the sake of meeting women, you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. Find something you like and the social circle will be there.

I'm telling and warning you that if you do a hobby standalone for the sake of doing something for yourself or for the hobby itself, it'll show more attraction and authenticity.

I don't work on cars or study chemistry for women. I have these hobbies and a developed lifestyle that the dating comes as a side product.

Rock climbing! Great exercise, big gains to be had, and tons of girls! Climbing seems to attract a breed of laid back, easily going people, so it is easy to approach girls. And climbing girls are beautifully toned. Check out your university wall or local climbing gym!

I think you need something artistic, physical, and one that is mentally stimulating.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist. Music's been with me from a little kid.

I love sports. Football, basketball, lacrosse, and all kinds of boarding sports.

I love science, I like reading about science and medicine and I hope to be a doctor. I love rubiks cubes. This is more for you than them- it's just good for you and makes you smarter.

Pick what you like, but I broke it down into three categories. You need one in each at least.

Run. You'll actually have the energy and motivation to do other more interesting things after you get your heart rate up above 180 a few times a week. Today I was feeling lazy until I hit the treadmill for 20 minutes. Afterward I mowed the lawn, cooked a gourmet meal, cleaned the bathroom, detailed my car and had a well-deserved beer while watching a little TV before getting in bed. I'm about to sleep incredibly well.

Pick up an instrument. Music is just one of those things everyone should learn. Doesn't have to be guitar though.

No actually, none of those boring things. You need hobbies that attract women, but sometimes that can actually be a problem. I read a recent study somewhere that said women like men with "manly" hobbies, and disliked men's hobbies that they considered more feminine, like yoga. Even if they are into yoga themselves, they weren't attracted to guys that were into their own hobby (which I wish I had known before I talked about yoga with a yoga bunny recently).

What you need is a hobby that you are passionate about. You don't even have to meet women through the hobby. For example, I am into guitar playing. When I talk about it with women, they can feel my passion for music. But none of those women have ever heard me play a single note. Women just want to know you can be passionate about something, because it shows you can be passionate about them.

How about taking up a martial art? I recently started boxing and I love it. If getting punched isn't your thing, look into a grappling art like Brazilian jiu jitzu. There are dozens of martial arts that have trainers readily available in almost any city. Head over to /r/martialarts and find the right art for you. Whatever you choose will get you into great shape, build confidence and it could be potentially useful if you are ever forced to defend yourself.

I also just bought a homebrew starter kit so I can brew my own beer. You can get a kit for less than $100 and it will give you the satisfaction of creating something. Not only that, but you get 5 gallons of beer to enjoy and share with your friends. Check out /r/homebrew for more information.

I also want to suggest weightlifting. After being self conscious about being skinny my whole life, hitting the gym was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I can fill out a shirt now and my confidence has never been higher. Go to /r/fitness or, depending on your goals, /r/gainit or /r/loseit. Each of those subreddits is very informative and supportive. Plus, it's really cool to be able to lift heavy things.

Whatever you do, do it because it's what you want to do, not because you think it will get you laid. My advice is to not be afraid to try a lot of new things and don't be afraid to give up on them if you don't enjoy them.

I like building planets for fun and girls are ALWAYS curious when you tell them you are a planet builder. But just be careful because as soon as they hear that you build planets they'll be all, "Oh really? Can you make me a planet?" And of course, you're going to say, "Oh yeah, I'll totally build you one!" But its easy to forget HOW LONG it actually takes to build a fucking planet (takes forever to dry!) AND the resources needed and the star for it to orbit around. But of course, as all you other planet builders out there know, girls be gettin' naked when you give them the keys to their very own PLANET! Just make sure you throw some trees and waterfalls and shit on there, don't be giving them no "moon rock" as they say. I'm Copy-Pasting an older comment of mine from an AskReddit thread like this a while back:

Kite flying.

There are kites for every type of day, conditions, or activity. Even indoor flight.

Have young kids? A single line delta or diamond kite is perfect for them to learn, and often has a fun pattern.

Want a relaxing day in the park? A single line parafoil is perfect. These can go up several hundred feet, and you can mount cameras onto them for some awesome pictures, as they have quite good lifting power. (You can use other types of kites for photography as well, parafoils are just very stable and quite powerful, so I would recommend them.)

Want to show off at the beach? Two line deltas are perfect for windy days and can do some pretty cool stunts.

Want to show off at a festival? Revolution style quad lines are amazing. Case and point.
Or, there are very impressive box kites or dragon-style kites. and with a big parafoil, you can get amazing line laundry.

For adventure/thrill seekers, there is traction kiting. That is to say, giant parachute-looking kites used to power all sorts of stuff.

Land trucks
Snowboards
Other stuff, because why not?

Basically if you can imagine it, kites are relevant. People even fight kites.

This is my hobby. It gets you all of the women.

You're not going to find a holy grail hobby that no one has discovered yet. But I think what you're looking to shoot for is a hobby that has a good mix of men and women. Rockclimbing, outdoors hobbies, and other things in this vein are things I'm just getting into but showing promise. Maybe 40-60, but that's way better than the odds you're getting in engineering. I just went through grad orientation today... jeesh.

Another area (and thanks for the reminder) I have yet to try but been curious about: social justice causes and organizations. Women seem to be integrated at every level of these due to a higher tendency of caring nature. You don't have to join women-specific ones (I have no clue how this would go but I'd guess avoid them) but ANYTHING which gives you an excuse to get conversation/face time with a girl and hold an intelligent conversation is going to play to your strengths. Young Democrats, Young Republicans, NORML, etc. Really anything that ISN'T tech-based. If it has to do with feeling good and helping people, there will be tits on the front line guaranteed. Charity: help others, help yourself.

You're in college, let me tell you as someone who has graduated, spent two years outside of it, and then come back in as a grad student this is the EASIEST it gets my friend. You're SPOON-FED opportunities to meet people. No one is going to do the work for you, find your college's list of organizations and start browsing through EVERYTHING until you have a list you think interests you.

And of course you should have hobbies for your sole individual enjoyment but I think you know that already. You're coming here for the question of how to meet women. Those are two big areas I can think of and I'd love some input on anyone's experiences.

Especially when you try to teach them how to flick, because they can't do it for shit and you just tease them about it. Doesn't stop them from trying, because it does look pretty damn cool when you throw a stable disc.

But once they do get it, they recognize that you've created and shared value with them. Be a value-giver, right?

Dancing is the best hobby/activity to meet women. I recently went to a high-class dance club and met a girl, got her number and now she wants me to come over.

Do hobbies in your alone time, do things that empower you and make you happy. It's easier socializing when you got the endorphins, plus you have conversation piece. Some things I do is gym/BJJ, fly my Cessna, read non-fiction books and explore the city. I have met so many people just walking around downtown, especially at night. Do what interests you.

DJ. Learn to DJ. The party/club/bar atmosphere is always a great place to meet women, and if you are the dude controlling the tempo and tune of the evening, you have some seriously high value. I started djing recently and i wish to christ i did it way sooner than i did.

I do volunteer work, as a teaching assistant (unpaid, of course), work with people in crisis, and sometimes devote time to local beach/river/park cleanup efforts. I try to make the world a better place and lead by example, and in my experience, quality women admire that. I don't do it to attract women, I do it because I give a shit. Not sure these are hobbies, though they have increased my social worth and the overall quality of the women I date.

The most important thing about finding new hobbies is that you enjoy them. If you have hobbies that make you happy, they will enrich your life to the point that you will become a more attractive to women. It's not hard to spot the bros at a free yoga class who are just there to meet chicks, and when you do that you just come off as disingenuous. You can meet women anywhere; you're hobbies make you a more interesting, confident person and they make it more likely for you and someone else you meet to have something in common.

Personally, I get a lot out of team sports and music, but it's all a matter of finding what you like.

I got into golf recently and it has been great. Seriously the best days to me are ones spent on the course with my friends or my dad playing 18.

I also code a lot, but Idk if that counts as a hobby since it's my major and job as well as hobby.

Run clubs, they usually meet on a weekly basis and a lot of running stores sponsor them. I have made a lot of friends and a couple of relationships from run clubs.

The most interesting hobby? dude your doing it right now, Reading. Reading is a great hobby, able to talk about the books you read as well as telling the story back is great. Once you get accustomed to reading why not do the next best thing,Writing. Able to write the stories you want, either it's a novel or a short story, different genres etc. Reading and writing are great hobbies at no expense. A bit of advice, don't do it for the girls but do it for yourself. If you have the aim of doing for women, chances are that your not going to like reading or writing.

Computer Engineering Represent! I think that painting/art/music/some sort of outdoorsy activity are good hobbies to have. However, I've noticed, going to social events and talking to people is the better way to get into social circles, because you find something you already have in common, and it allows an easier transition into meeting people in general. And honestly, if you are passionate about computer engineering, telling a girl how much you love it is just as attractive as talking about art or other hobbies (to the right girl anyways). I've been complimented on not talking about fantasy football and other sports things (I'm not into sports though, so it wasn't something I refrained from saying in the first place, because I just don't give a fuck about it.) tl;dr: do something you like, talk to various people about it, see who else likes it, profit.

It's being said well by others- wrong approach mate.

Life is an adventure waiting to be had; and more and more, I see girls grasping this better than guys do. They get their gf's together and go looking for new experiences and excitement, taking twenty pictures a minute the whole while of course. And if thats the kind of girl you're after- confident, carefree, passionate(and who doesn't want all that?)- you gotta realize she'll see through you if your interest in her hobby seems like a pretense(even if that's not completely true). And that'll be a turn-off for her.
My suggestion? Start working on your focus. Work on friendships when you're with friends, work on hobbies when you're doing them, and work on your female finesse when you're not doing the other two. College is more about solidifying yourself as a confident individual; and once you're focused on that, the other areas will naturally fall into place. After you've got a handle on that passion or interest, and you know you will continue to do it no matter what people come and go-then start engaging girls while doing it.
Beyond that- my suggestion is salsa dancing. Weird idea at first, but it cannot beat it when it comes to meeting fun and confident girls.
