I got those kinds of looks last year at the YMCA when my daughter went along with me while I worked out in the gym. Women kept looking at me, some with seriously pissed looks on their faces, others with some look I dont know, but they continued to stare at me. My daughter is 13 but she is 5'6" and looks more like 19 or 20 to most people. Still I am old enough to have a 20 year old daughter, what the hell is the problem with people anyway? Its not like she was being a pain in the ass or bothering people, she was just hanging out while I got my lifting on.

I feel ya OP. Lucky for me wen they were little were lived on an Air Force base.. not too many pedos and finger pointers there.

By myself, I pick up my son and daughter from school, go to parent functions, the park, the store, and other places and I've never had a problem or a even a dirty look.

This is why my nieces ALWAYS call me "Uncle dcmacdaddy" whenever I take them out in public*. Usually it is just to the park and then maybe to get ice cream but I insist on it. I even make my sister and brother-in-law call me "Uncle dcmacdaddy" when we are in public with the girls. It's just easier that way.

*At home I am "Uncle Stinky-randomnoun". For a while the 5-year-old was calling me "Mister Mister" when she was learning manners (Mr. Mrs., Please, Thank You, etc). She always looked at me funny when I replied with "Take . . . these broken wings". My sister would bust out laughing if she heard me do that.

I <3 playing with my nieces and HATE the fact I am assumed to be a weirdo if I am alone with them in public. If I am a weirdo then I am a weirdo who has changed diapers, fed them, rocked them back to sleep after a bad dream, been peed/puked/pooped on, told them stories, built couch forts, read them books, made a spaceship out of a refrigerator box, and played endless amounts of horsey with them. Grrrr!

But the routine itself is perpetrated not by feminists, but by crazy assholes in general. Most people (feminist, MRA, whatever) don't see a guy playing with his daughter in the park and assume pedophilia. The park is a NORMAL place for men to hang with their kids. People, both men and women, are idiots when it comes to the probabilities and chances of molestation occurring. We look at any scenario where there are adults interacting with children, and view it through the filter of "what if everyone in the world was a scumbag" instead of "everything's fine, predators are very rare". It's like we have the opposite problem of the bystander effect now, we're all so paranoid about it that we can't help ourselves.

Feminist here. Feminism certainly brought the concept of rape to public consciousness and once that became a public discussion, so too did child abuse. I for one am grateful it is no longer swept under the carpet. Maybe you'd prefer a return to the bad old days.

Having said that, as a feminist I've always thought that parenting should be a job that's shared equally between parents, whether together or not. This is because mothering is not the only (or necessarily the most meaningful) role for women to play in life. It takes two people to make a baby and for all kinds of reasons I hate this societal expectation that women should do the majority of parenting. Unfortunately most people in society still think women are or should be the primary care givers.

So in my opinion, the attitude of courts and women who unfairly seek more than their equal share of parenting, to me, represents a lack of feminist consciousness, a failure of the women's movement to really change attitudes about parenting in society.

Blame the patriarchalists. In insisting on rigid gender roles and assigning domestic duties and child-rearing to women, they hurt single fathers because no one expects the father to take on the role of a house mom.

At the same time, feminism, in advocating for equality of the sexes, wants any parent, male or female, to be able to take on whatever role suits them. I know many feminist housewives, along with many feminist househusbands.
