What is of particular interest to me is the 20/21, 23/24, 26/27 age brackets.

I see those green areas in $40/$50k, $50/$70k, $80k respectively as women likely reasoning how realistic it would be for men of those ages to make much more than those dollar amounts. In other words, opting for men in the highest believable pay brackets for their ages.

This solidifies for me the following:
A) MANY of the women making up this sample are clearly motivated by money (yeah I know, duh).
B) And those said women are extremely unrealistic in their expectations of earned income of those age groups I mentioned above.

I think there would also be a difference between "I make 30k and I'm a manager at McDonalds" and "I make 30k and I'm a teacher". Of course that's only in the case of dating and love, which doesn't seem to be OKCupid's aim.

I've found that women (or at least the ones I date) stress BIG-TIME over money. It could be that money problems don't bother me much, skewing my point of view, but I think it's more than that. Is it possible that these women are simply looking for a relationship they can feel stable in? Also, have you guys noticed this, or is it just me?

btw, those are for OkCupid messages. Also, this is fair enough. This is from judging people based on their OkCupid profile. No matter what, people are going to be shallow. If it isn't about looks, it's about your interests... Or your money. Fair enough, people. You can't get to know someone's personality from a profile.

Well, it is true that if you marry someone with a higher income, you will have more stability, be more able to raise a family, etc. Even though it seems shallow, there are advantages to being rich. For most women I know, though, having a lot of money won't help if you don't have other positive characteristics.

That's really not that surprising, considering what men and women tend to want out of a partner. What sucks is that both genders are usually wrong about what they want. Women want security, which they associate with wealth, while men want, well, a gorgeous woman (I'm absolutely 100% positive that an equivalent chart can be made for men's messages with a huge bonus for youngish attractive women with cleavage in their profile pics). Both are equally shallow, stupid, and doesn't get them their long term goals. Women don't need a rich guy, they need a [b]reliable[/b] guy that they can lean on when needed and who'll do right by the kids. That's not the same thing as wealth at all, though at the same time poverty is often an indicator of unreliability. Men usually don't need the hottest piece of ass either, they need someone they find attractive with a matching sex drive, who's got a good head on her shoulders, will stand with him through thick and thin, and make a good mother to the kids.

But we're all idiots so men send messages to floozies with huge tits and then whine about their crazy ex-wife on mensrights, while women marry an asshole because he has money and a nice car, and then whine when they are traded in for a younger model.

I see this as an instinctual response. Women are more attracted to men who will be able to support them and their family. It used to be that the better hunters or the men with the better nests/homes would get more attention from women. We have modernized accordingly, and now a woman's instinctual idea of "support" has transferred to accept money as the defining medium, rather than hunting, brawn, or home building. Not to say that all women are like this, but it's a reasonable conclusion.
