People are terrible at making choices, especially women.

So what? People should be free to make their own choices, even if you think they are bad.

Ask a woman where she wants to eat, exactly.

I pick and plan my household’s meals most days of the week, as did my mother, and countless other women do this. Many men even think meal planning and cooking are specifically “women’s work”. What are the terrrible choices you think all women are making for what to eat? Are they eating dirt?

I ask my female friends when we hang out where they want to eat all the time, the things I thought were terrible choices were just because it was like a steak house and I don’t eat steak, so for me it was a terrible option, but that doesn’t mean it was bad for them. Usually a couple people in the group have a suggestion, many don’t care, and then we come to a consensus, and it works exactly the same as with my male friends.

Not who, but what. Every sci-fi should has explored the possibility of computer algorithms making dating choices for us. Every dating app or site has some type of algorithm. Even the IG explore page has an algorithm to show you post and possibly women you might be interested in. I can see this trend continuing. Black mirror has a show on this, can’t remember how it ends.

Ok… and you think everyone should be forced to fuck (or marry?) whoever the dating app suggests, or what? How would you feel if it suggests you are a perfect match with a morbidly obese woman who hates men?

Nothing you said was evidence against my claim that everyone benefits from being able to freely choose, even if you think they made the wrong choice, even if it objectively IS the wrong choice - they still benefit. Humans learn from our mistakes, if we aren’t allowed to make them we learn nothing.

Everyone benefits from freedom of choice. Who on earth would want someone else to choose who they fuck? Who else would even be able to make a better choice than the person themselves? Do you think there should be some kind of government committee assigning sex partners? How would they decide in a way that it would be considered a “responsible choice”?

Well, I'm a Georgist, and in my experience and beliefs, a freer market of exchange is unequivocally good.

So my belief is that both men and women benefit from a free sexual market, because both are able to exchange what they have of value (looks, money, youth, ability to have children, smarts, kindness, ability to provide sexual pleasure etc) for those that other people have.

That's genders as a whole. If you break it down by attractiveness it gets a bit more hairy.

Attractive or desireable RMV people: large benefit. Being able to freely sell something of high value means you can optimize what you do get.

Medium: slight benefit, because you presumably have something of value even if it's not as much.

Low: detriment only if you have nothing of value in SMV or RMV.

Yet there are many things both genders can do to raise their SMV /RMV. Namely, FUCKING LOSING WEIGHT

Unrestrained sexual freedom is good for the individual of both genders, but bad for society. It’s like free market capitalism but society doesn’t benefit because the value created cannot be transferred, exchanged, or stored.

I think both genders benefit immensely from having the freedom to make choices in their lives. Perhaps men benefit a tad bit more since they typically aren’t the primary care takers of the children when they start a family although one would argue that being financially tied down to other human beings is more responsibility then being tied down in the way that women are to their children. It’s 50/50 in my opinion.

There was no reliably recorded time when one gender made choices for the other since the fall of Rome, so we don't actually have proper frame of reference to compare.

Inb4 "But but but ..." - Even in regions with (relatively) recent prominent traditions of arranged marriage, the mother of the potential bride had the veto.

Freedom benefits the people who use it to do the things they want to do, and to avoid the things they don't want to do. That's it. That's all it means. There is no "some people benefit from freedom more than others".

The problem is, you seem to think someone else would make better decisions for them. Sometimes people date someone they think is good for them, and then they find out that it's not. While it sucks when this happens, I don't think a third party would have better luck selecting partners for another.

Deciding who people can and can't date/have sex with/marry is pretty much eugenics. It doesn't benefit the individual to be forced to have relationships only with people they're "allowed" to be with. Neither men nor women.

In terms of freedom of choice in sex partners it benefits society as a whole because the parts of the world where sex partners are chosen for individuals (through forced marriages) aren't usually all that big on human rights in general. But in the "free world" women do have more choices in dating/marriage. They still however have fewer options in other realms of life. For instance no man ever lost a job or promotion because he announced that he was going to become a parent.
