I am going to assume that this thread is speaking from the perspective of the United States.

With regard to that, and given the large number of active duty military we have right now, and given the potentially (VERY LOW) likelihood of an organized military attack on American soil, I would expect the likelihood of a draft to be EXTREMELY low.

HOWEVER, regarding whether or not women should be included in a draft is a different question altogether.

The US has more women in its military than any other country.

Given all the arguments made by women for women serving in the armed forces, and specifically in combat, it's LITERALLY a no-brainer that if we allow women to serve in combat, that we include them in the draft.

One of the arguments used to allow women into combat was that combat MOSs offered the most likely and expeditious route to promotion to the highest ranks. The argument held that it would be unfair to exclude women from combat MOSs, because doing would present a de facto ban on women achieving the highest ranks in the military or at the very least would make it harder for them to achieve those ranks.

So... with all of that said, and even considering the lesser physical capabilities of women in combat, the plain, simple, unalienable truth is that women SHOULD be registering for the selective service. In any situation so dire that we need to consider a draft, women should not be excluded from it.

If NOTHING else, maybe that would make Washington's warmongers think just a little bit more about things...

Of course, the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth by women over being potentially subject to involuntary service in the military would be a tasty bit of schadenfreude as well.

Can’t believe women aren’t even on the table for the draft when modern warfare has plenty of spots for them. Sure, maybe they wouldn’t be as effective at close combat, but anyone can hold a gun and pull a trigger.

Though saying all that, it would definitely be better if there was no draft at all.

I have a petition to call on congress and the senate to either abolish the selective service system or to expand it to require everyone to register.The current selective service system is as many already know unconstitutional as it only applies to one gender which is a violation of the 14th amendment of the constitution and the equal protections clause.I would appreciate if people here in this comment section look into and sign my petition.

No one should be drafted. People unwilling to fight are just a waste of resources, and most importantly human lives.

In case of draft obviously both genders. You may say that women are on average bad soldiers, and are weaker. Even if, then it wouldnt matter anyway, cause you still have requirments for a draft. If you're a really bad person for a soldier, then you wont get drafted

There is a lot of understandable aggression towards women in this comment section. As a man speaking to the men reading this, the post is of little concern to us. Many of us will disagree about the efficacy of women in frontlines. Many of us will disagree about GI Bill Reform in light of more female presence in the military. The bottom line is once your in the military you’re all equal in the sense that everyone has an equal opportunity to die.

The military knows this. They’ve done a piss poor job of developing a sense of cohesion because lower ranks who haven’t seen action hold high opinions protected by admin. Many service men have stated that if their bodies can’t be dragged through enemy fire they will never see these individuals as equals. This is not a mens rights issue.

On the battlefield, in the frontlines, women will have to prove they’re equality if they plan on surviving and keep up with everyone else. I really don’t see much discussion on the issue of gender representation in the military. I do however see room for discussion with regards to Military Reform.

Been thinking about the draft and formulating an opinion about it as it seems likely to become politically relevant. Seems to me, if you can vote you should be subject to it. As, if you vote you bear responsibility for wars that may happen. We do need a draft in my view, or the option for it. We might be attacked by foreign powers and need to supplement the armed forces more than volunteers can. So, I would like to propose tying draft to voter registration which can only be activated in defensive wars and making it non discriminatory. Dont want to be drafted, dont register to vote. Seems clean simple and ethical to me.

Here’s the thing about this issue fellas. We’ve been an all volunteer military force since 1973. With the active duty force, the reserve components, the various National guard units and the available veteran force here in the US, you’re talking about 4-5 million people under arms. Now, that isn’t to say that there would be that many trigger pullers available, but it is still a size-able force to be reconciled with. So, with that in mind, if a National draft for conscription military service were ever to be introduced back into every day life within the US (and please keep in mind that whichever party brings that up on the floor of the Congress to vote is signing their own death warrant), the existing military force has been degraded enough to the point of requiring unwilling citizens to participate in a war. In other words, we are all screwed and a draft is not going to be something to worry about.

No way my Wife at 120lbs could haul my ass back to base at 240lbs. Plus gear.

Segregation of sexes also seems stupid, as well as impractical.

Perhaps a draft to fill support roles and backfill the shitty jobs in the home land once all the men are taken.

I mean on one hand, I agree, women should shoulder their burden at war, but fuck, I am not sure I would want to be paired up with the average woman, just because of size, endurance and strength.

Historically, with the Suffragettes in Britian, they stopped protesting once World War One broke out to aid in the War Effort at home. But that's not a good example because back then, they were actually protesting for equal rights and lacked many of the rights modern women have.

But i do think it would take a War for these Feminists to realize how wrong they are about a lot of things. Even in recent history, when Draft Bills are introduced to the House that would allow the drafting of women, Feminists flipped their shit. Honestly if I’m drafted I’d rather not have women drafted with me. While there are some bad ass female soldiers out there. That’s the exception not the rule. If I’m in a line infantry company and there are female draftees, I’m in a worse spot than if they weren’t drafted at all. I don’t need gender equality.
