There's a distinction between being "involuntarily celibate" and self identifying as an Incel. The only time the former definition was used in the literal sense was when the term was originally used.
There is absolutely no reason to identify with or as an Incel if you are not intending to mean you are a member of those groups.
They aren't on Reddit anymore, but I think if they were people wouldn't be so concerned with appropriately labeling them.
I don't expect those articles to make the distinction, and may very well actually be calling "guys who struggle with relationships" as mysogynists but "guys who struggle with relationships" I wouldn't call an Incel unless they partake in that blackpill ideology - which is mysogynistic.

I'm saying there is no reason to use this word in the general sense. And people using the word to mean "boys who struggle with relationships" and people who use it as a political insult are watering it down and the result will be cover against people who do self identify and are mysogynistic.
To take a more extreme example. It's like admitting there's a Nazi problem. But there's two kinds of Nazi. By saying some people have a misunderstood but legitimate claim to the label blurs the demarcation line.
It is based on action or well beleifs. The black pill ideology. I'm saying no one should self identify that way, for the same reason that others shouldn't identify their peers because it's not based on their actual actions of actual beleifs.

So much bullshit. Incel just means you are incapable of getting laid. That's it.
Except that such people exist. Pfft.
Think about the women!11
De-facto wrong. You might want it to be so, but that is not its exclusive defenition, and its other usages do indeed exist.
From your other comment:
You do not have to be a virgin to be an incel. Seems like you got a lot of reading to do before pontificating on this matter.
Except of course that one might be an incel, that tons of people, insultingly and otherwise, use this word accordingly, etc etc. So no, you are just wrong.

In the 90s. The only reason the identifier exists now is because of its use in blackpill ideology. Now it's turned into a vague political insult and being watered down again.
Even if you want to insist there are legitimate use cases for Incel it's running defense for actual Incels who are mysogynistic. As I said in my top comment there was never anything wrong with just saying someone's a virgin.

I do not agree. I have seen it used in this very literal sense endlessly, so clearly, this meaning, which makes the most sense in a certain sense, is absolutely perfectly fine to use if we only consider that criteria.
Actual Incel = People who cannot get laid. Not necessarily mysognists, misandrists, or whatever.
To quote you:
Notice also how I addressed this already in my reply to you.

Funny that you say this.
So much for that.
Also, you are totally ignoring his point.
[+]InitiatePenguin1 points [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
That's not contradicting myself.
People are using Incel to mean virgin/celibate. I'm saying they are not the same, because Incel is beleiving or acting in ways that associate and affirmatively self-identify with a mysogynistic ideology.
I'm not missing the point. I'm disagreeing with them.

Here is how I view it: Somebody might be a virgin. Somebody might be celibate. Somebody might be involuntarily celibate. Somebody might be a sexist of this or that kind. All of those things are different and while there is some obvious overlap (virgins are celibate), it makes no sense not to differentiate those things properly.
As for those ideologues, one might call them blackpillers or whatever. That would be more accurate even, given that some of those, lurking in their lookism or whatever forums, actually get laid from time to time due to e.g. (according to themselves) their height etc. And still basically believe the same stuff as the rest of the lot.
And about your quote:
Which conflates incels and virgins. And the orginal meaning you referred to was about men in general, and not boys who struggle with relationships, which you wrote about in your other comment. Also, you seem to conflate celibacy with involuntary celibacy. I wonder why?

There are three problems here and I don’t see how bundling them together will help anyone.
The first is that teachers are being bullied and threatened by students. This is criminal/work place hazard which has to be dealt with.
The second is pre feminist misogyny, which is still prevalent and common in some immigrant groups etc. parts of it has been rooted out but I think it still lives on in poorer/extremely wealthy enclaves of society.
Then there is the post feminist misogyny where we have incels and such. These guys were raised in by women in a feminist micro cosmos, where women are more successful and the authority figures, which they are revolting against.
I think mixing them together makes it difficult to deal with properly. It can also make it appear much bigger than what it actually is and even make it feel like a grand conspiracy.
