I talked about this a bit the other day.

Men being attractive while also being productive.

Remember that random gratuitous scene in Age of Ultron where Steve Rodgers is chopping wood with RDJ?

Like the conversation itself was important I think but there was no reason Chris Evans needed to chop wood in a skintight shirt while doing it lol.

I think plots focused around two guys who have a special, often dramatic or even antagonistic friendship where there are some gay undertones but it's not fully realized, just constant hints and material for fantasy.

Im not the only girl who always loved that shit.

I like romance for the emotions. Those stories make me feel something. I like female protagonists because I can relate to them better. That being said, I also like plenty of books/movies/shows not oriented to the female gaze.

I have a strong desire to nurture, so I really get into male romantic leads where you are introduced to their public persona, but then layers get peeled back and you see complexity and vulnerability. I like it when it's more than two attractive characters getting together, but you really see how they fit together and how they really become important parts of each other's lives. So it's like, love sex and romance but with a feeling of security and being wanted and needed that make it special to me. Characters that adore and admire each other are just the best.

I’d say effort, restraint, and understanding.

Effort is easy to understand. Do something. Picking flowers, building something with your hands, protecting her from danger. It shows you have skills and that you think about her when she’s not around.

Restraint. Knowing that a man wants you but he has the discipline to wait. Discipline is truly one of the most attractive things in a man. It shows he has some standards. Women want to be seen as special. So you dating any and everyone, doesn’t make her feel special.

Understanding and comfort is something most people want. Someone to be there for them and make them feel loved. One big difference I always notice between media and irl is that in media men stay. When they get into an argument, he wraps his arms around her or comes back soon instead of giving her space (which I believe men tend to like more).

I'd say it's definitely a man doing something to choose a specific woman over other women who may be attractive, thus validating their attractiveness because the man is attractive.

For example I was thinking of Stu and Frannie (if i got the names right its been a while) in The Stand by Stephen King

Another example might be the wife & husband from The Gentleman

If we go by the wikipedia definition of female gaze

The female gaze is a feminist theory term referring to the gaze of the female spectator, character or director of an artistic work, but more than the gender it is an issue of representing women as subjects having agency. As such all genders can create films with a female gaze. It is a response to feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey's term "the male gaze", which represents not only the gaze of a heterosexual male viewer but also the gaze of the male character and the male creator of the film. In contemporary usage, the female gaze has been used to refer to the how the perspective a female filmmaker (screenwriter/director/producer) brings to a film that might be different from a male view of the subject.

The main thing would probably more relatable things (as it is being done by looking through the experience of women), seeing women as more than a sex object, seeing things from a different point of view, sensuality.

I didn’t get a chance to comment this on the other female gaze post, but two great movies I’ve seen recently that seem to deal with the female gaze to varying degrees are Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Blow the Man Down.

The former is pretty much all about the female gaze, considering it’s literally about one woman gazing at another in order to paint her portrait to send to a suitor in Milan. A little slow but tons of interesting shots.

The latter is kind of a dark comedy directed by two women that’s a lot more subtle on the female gaze, but as the story unravels you realize this whole town is run by a cabal of old ladies and the men are just pawns. Also makes for some entertaining scenes.

I think it’s something that is relatable and refreshing. I rarely feel represented in media, even if it has many female characters. I personally, don’t enjoy men being hyper sexualized or objectified, but I think that’s only a small part of the female gaze.
