My mother tells me i’m a violent and abusive my entire life. Every single conversation is just her going “don’t raise your voice” god forbid if i disagreed with her in any way she’d ask me to leave the house.

I’m 25 and realized after working professionally that i have a very monotone voice and am often without facial expression. I hear people speak every day with inflection, speaking in ways that would’ve landed me in trouble under my mothers roof.

It finally hit me. My mother was a fucking psychopath who was ultra sensitive and incapable of peace. She made my childhood a massive pain in the ass, absolutely ruined any self esteem i had, and made me fearful that i wasn’t “normal”.

I’m a nice guy and get along with everyone except her and my father.

He just tells me i’m wrong about everything, even things that have to do with my job. (Which he’s never done)

I've said it before, the problem with the term "toxic masculinity" was that it seemed to put the blame on men. In reality, it was everyone.

I mean logically its always worked that way? I know modern day there's been some gender reversal and things are more fluid but mothers remain the primary caregivers so they are the one passing down the roles/expectations. Teachers are overwhelmingly women so any influence outside the home is female given.

The Implicit Association Test gets a lot of criticism. EG People don't give very consistent results when they repeat the test and it is not very predicative of explicit behavior.

That doesn't mean that mothers are not largely responsible for boys socialization.

Most of the criticism of the IAT is focused on using the IAT to measure racial attitudes. It could be that it is better at measuring gender attitudes.

Nothing new, which is why women should not have any say in how sons are raised - under severe penalties.

Its not good and not long-term profitable for our sons, more often than not.
