Funny how when this "don't be that guy" thing is directed at women, they find it absolutely disgusting and offensive, but if it's aimed at men, they see nothing wrong with it, it's not offensive in any way. But we are supposed to believe that women have more empathy than men. Gimme a break.

That's the level of feminist discourse in this country. And they wonder why prominent people flee from any association with that word. Mainstream America embraces equality, but does not embrace "feminism" because it's come to have all sorts of hateful baggage attached to it. This is a case in point.

There are two things I just don't understand about the reaction to these posters:

How they're talked about as if they're "rape jokes". They're not. They call to attention a real, serious issue.
How some people seem to believe that the problem of rape and the problem of false accusations are somehow mutually exclusive. Rape is bad. False accusations are bad. Why are they seen as opposite ends of a scale? Having no tolerance for false accusations should make no difference to the prosecution of real rapists.

Well, okay, I do understand the reaction. They're taking it as an assault on their victimhood status. But what I don't understand is the underlying reason why they feel it is.

You know the way I see our emerging social narrative somebody HAS to be offended. Either it's men offended of being thought of as potential rapists or it's women offended that men dare speak up about false rape accusations.

Nice to see my University making the news. I first saw this on a friend's facebook wall (Writer for the UofA paper). I have seen lives ruined by false accusations when I lived in residence there

This is so offensive - women are not culpable for their own decisions, actions or behaviors. They are perpetual victims and passengers in their own lives, cannot be held accountable for anything because of patriarchy, and wouldn't change that for anything in the fucking universe.

The TwoX thread about these posters is frustrating. Lots of talk about how the creators of the poster are "against woman's rights" and shit. No use wading into, though, as trying to argue anything related to this 'rape culture' shit just gets you flamed there.

Ok, seriously. False rape accusations are bad, but there nowhere near as prevalent as something like male rape. Instead of going with something that would fuel the fire for feminists, shouldn't the people involved have gone with something like "just because he has a penis doesn't mean he gave consent, don't be that girl"?

Personally I've taken more girls to the hospital for rape kits than I have personally (family members, close friends) have been falsely accused.
