This is the woman who made false claims. Claims 6 sexual assaults and 9 rapes in 3 years all by strangers. She put an innocent man in jail for 5 years. She just received 10.

“I feel like I’m a financial slave for the rest of my life”

Probably should have thought about that before you falsely accuse someone you dumb cunt.

Dude could have been a literal slave for the rest of his life due to her accusations.

13th amendment y’all

[–]bulletv1 134 points135 points136 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

13th amendment still allows for slavery if it is a punishment for a crime.

$0.50/hr prison "wage earnings" against $6 Band-Aids in the prison commissary.

that's only in federal prisons. state prison in my area only get 2 meals, rec time can be canceled for no reason, or canceled for all to peer punish one or two. there's more, maybe have a basic understanding of what you're talking about before you speak sir.

Slave: a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.

I guess you're not technically property, but that doesn't make much of a difference when you're kept in a cage and told when to shit.

She will just declare bankruptcy, won't she?

If she’s smart enough. But she also accused someone of rape so I don’t think she is going be that smart.

Well, you would think at very least she would speak to a lawyer who, you would imagine, would suggest this to her.

bankruptcy does not release you from that kind of debt sometimes

[–]FranksnBeans80 81 points82 points83 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Agreed. Fuck her and women like her. I feel bad not only for guys falsely accused of this thing, but also real victims as well, as it casts doubt on their testimony.

[–]DudeguyMA 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One of the sad lessons I learned while working EMS in NYC. False rape accusation happen often, SVU have systems and can fish out fakers. Watching the interview was not a pleasant process, which made me questions the process if you are an actual victim. As an EMT our job was to take the victim to the ER for Pelvic Exams/Rape Kit test. On my end there wasn't a lot of interaction aside from vitals with the patients (a typical EMT day I guess glorified hospital taxi).

[–]the_fat_whisperer 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was thinking the same thing. If its a court-ordered payment because of a crime, I'd imagine you can't bankruptcy your way out of it. Still, I doubt she will pay anything close to what the suffering she inflicted is worth.

[–]KR_Blade 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

actually it used to, but i think they've changed the bankruptcy laws, she'd still have to pay ALOT of money to him in the end just for it to go through.

[–]staytrue1985 142 points143 points144 points 8 years ago (73 children) | Copy Link

Do you realize the US government has executed people falsely accused of rape?

Many women have gotten away with this. We don't really know the true number of innocents.

[–]Sir_Slick_Rock 45 points46 points47 points 8 years ago (71 children) | Copy Link

As an American black man:

NO SHIT!

[–]TherapyFortheRapy 158 points159 points160 points 8 years ago (68 children) | Copy Link

And maybe something would get done about it if folks like you didn't pretend it was only black men getting fucked by this.

Bringing race into it just gets white people's backs up. It makes you feel good, but it prevents anything from getting done, because white people are convinced that when race gets brought up, they're going to be left out of whatever eventual reforms pop up.

That's how we went from a growing consensus to reform the police, to it being a completely dead issue: BLM racialized the issue, and white folk became convinced that liberals were going to use the issue to fuck them again.

[–]staytrue1985 101 points102 points103 points 8 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Look at everyone as an individual, and stop this collectivist identity politics.

[–]RapingTheWilling 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I mean, the whole idea of this sub is identity politics...

We recognize that men get longer, stiffer (lol) penalties for the same crimes, but when someone points out another subset that has those same circumstances extenuated, we tell him to shut up?

I wish this sub was more about wanting true equality than just Redpill vol. 2

[–]staytrue1985 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I see where you're coming from, but I dont think it's the same. If a Black tells me the War on Drugs was created by Nixon to target Blacks, and that discrimination persists to this day, so it should be ended, I am in agreement. If a White tells me that affirmative action is bullshit because it discriminates against Whites, I am also in agreement. But if either Blacks or Whites tell me I need to see them not as individuals, but through a special lense of collective identity, that's where the I call BS.

This sub is consistent with that.

[–]RapingTheWilling 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You don't agree that this sub is the epitome of identity politics?

[–]Sir_Slick_Rock 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is something I agree with.^ here is what I feel like right now. Example: Random guy: my house is on fire. Other guys: Lets put out the fire!

Me: My house is on fire I barely escaped with my life and I know who did this to me. Some people: Shut up! why does this have to be about you. I don’t have time for this anyways.

[–]RapingTheWilling 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

What..? He didn't make false accusations a black people issue. He just said black people are pretty used to being shat on by the law.

The guy didn't say black people are the only victims. Black people just don't get the same shake in the legal system.

[–]Sir_Slick_Rock 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One central house issue is that if an accused male wouldn’t be instantly looked down upon we would all benefit. As a man who is identified first when it comes to any kind of violence I have to speak out on that as well.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In fairness though, there is a pretty recent history of lynchings over false accusations as well as a cultural history of falsely accusing black men. That's what To Kill a Mockingbird is about and it's part of American culture.

[–]GAZAYOUTH93X 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think what he was referring to was back then where a black man will get executed if he so much looked at a white female the wrong way. Much lesa false rape accusations..

If a woman was caught having sex with one of her slaves she can just say "he was raping me."

[+]BrocanGawd -24 points-23 points-22 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Bringing up the FACT that black men have historically been fucked over more than most when it comes to false rape accusations is not wrong and shouldn't be hidden just because "folks like you" can't handle the ugly truth about racism in this country.

All that being said the regressive liberal scumfucks that use identity politics to turn everyone against each other for their own selfish gain do much more harm than good on these matters.

[–]Mr_Tangysauce 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You're right, it shouldn't be wrong to bring that up.

And yet when we bring up negative generalizations of black people, even if they are statistically true, we are labeled racist.

What's up with that?

[–]Sir_Slick_Rock 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you think that’s unfair try being on the end of a hangman’s noose, when it has been pointed out tons of times to be false accusations time and time again. Any innocent person should be looked at as an innocent person, no matter the statistics.

[+]BrocanGawd -23 points-22 points-21 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

It's because of WHY you bring it up, as you well know. If you brought it up to try to solve the problem or even to just add useful information to a discussion that is trying to figure out genuine solutions no problem. But when you bring it up to be a racist piece of shit that just wants to present black people in as bad a light as possible or to prove racial superiority you rightly get shit on because you are, in fact, a piece of shit. Nobody wants to help a racist stay racist with those stats, just like no one wants to help an SJW spread their toxic agenda by agreeing that white privilege does exist.

Oh wait, no what I really should have said was: OH Shucks you got me mister racist scumbag, please continue using accurate statistics to justify your racist scumbag views and I will all pretend that you are just being honest and logical and your racist intentions do not matter at all because you are using facts.

Let me tldr that for you in a way you can understand:

"You din do nuffin rong, uz a gud boi"

[–]Mr_Tangysauce 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

a lot of people DO try to bring up these issues to solve problems. But when they are brought up the only response I see is "stop being racist", or "you can't blame these people, they are oppressed by cis white males".

We're getting nowhere in actually dealing with these issues BECAUSE people are scared to ask and confront difficult questions.

You're just proving my point, calling me a racist and insulting my intelligence instead of having actual discourse

[–]Attack__cat 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

If you brought it up to try to solve the problem or even to just add useful information to a discussion that is trying to figure out genuine solutions no problem. But when you bring it up to be a racist piece of shit that just wants to present black people in as bad a light as possible or to prove racial superiority you rightly get shit on because you are, in fact, a piece of shit.

I mean... Ideally yes, but in reality racism is called in both cases and so absolutely nothing gets done and problems only get more ingrained.

Great example here in the UK there was a link between rape and asian men (on a local level). The police chief bought it up as an issue (65% of rapes committed by asian males despite being <10% of the population) and basically talked about how he is planning on trying to connect with asian communities more directly to try to tackle the issue. Papers went wild calling him a racist. Conveniently failing to quote the statistics or the fact the police chief was himself asian. He stepped up and 'apologised' clearly under pressure from higher ups and nothing was done about a genuine issue.

Likewise there was the black police officer who called out BLM and the local black communities (he grew up in) for basically being hostile to police constantly and withholding information on the frequent crimes just because they don't want to deal with 'pigs' and then turning around and complaining when the police need to assign more officers to deal with the high crime area. If both sides worked to eliminate the criminal aspects then their wouldn't be a need for disproportional police presence.

A lot of people do just throw the race card at every opportunity and make a reasonable discussion of issues impossible. Likewise a lot of women call sexism at every opportunity. Both result in negative outcomes and massively hinder genuine attempts at equality, which pisses everyone who actually cares about that goal off.

That might not be you, but it definitely fucking happens.

<Edit> Remembered this. Satire aimed at the sort of people I am talking about. Also fucking amazing.

[+]realvmouse -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Such a completely off-base and oversensitive fragile response.

Sir_slick's comment didn't get any normal person's "backs up" or prevent anything from getting done. No one considers rape to be a "racialized" issue-- except loonbats like you who are already isolated from having a voice in any community that isn't a redneck wasteland like r/men'srights.

Comments like yours just emphasize why you will never get anything but downvotes outside of your echo chamber.

Chances are, this type of debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy.

[–]UltimoSuperDragon 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's very hard to get someone to pay you these kinds of things. I have a family member awarded 3/4 million from someone who went down to a pretty stiff federal charge. They somehow still own their house (probably sold their car(s) since they don't need them right now), haven't paid a dime and won't ever.

she's fucking delusional...

During a six-day trial that ended Aug. 1, a jury in Fairfax County, Va., heard from both Riggins and Shannon at length. And after 2½ hours of deliberation, they sided emphatically with Riggins, awarding him $8.4 million in damages, an extraordinary amount for a defamation case between two private citizens. The jury ordered Shannon to pay $3.4 million in compensatory damages for injury to his reputation and lost wages, and $5 million in punitive damages, “to make sure nothing like this will ever happen again,” according to one of the jurors.

that's a whole jury of people unanimously agreeing that in under 3 hours, they decided not only that she was a liar, but that they needed to financially punt her into the next universe. And instead of walking away from her delusions, she doubles down...

“I told the truth in my article and at trial.”

could not “prove or disprove Ms. Shannon’s allegation she was raped,” the CID report concluded.

There's not actually evidence that she "falsely accused" him of anything.

What if she was telling the truth? And now she will be spending the rest of her life sending checks to the person that attacked her because she tried to speak out about it. And now she is being propped up on places like /r/pussypassdenied to be used as a strawman for edgy people that call her a dumb cunt.

Does it matter at all to you whether she was actually raped? What if she was?

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Ms. Shannon will have an appeals process, right?

It's not actually possible to prove that something didn't happen. An alibi is a strong form of evidence in the defense of an accused person.

It's hard to know how good the evidence was from just an article. I suppose either the court and jury did it's job correctly or, hopefully, the appeal will do it's job correctly.

It is a difficult situation though.

[–]speenatch 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]escape_of_da_keets 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

“Everything in that blog post was provably false,” said Stephen Horvath, Riggins’s lawyer, “and could not have happened.” He said no free beer was provided on the West Point campus, that drinking was prohibited by cadets, that Riggins did not have a car in 1986, would not have been allowed to drive it on campus, and that anyone emerging from the pedestrian tunnel couldn’t have been seen from the road. Shannon’s claims that her grades plunged after the event and that she returned her class ring were also untrue, Horvath said.

[–]berserker87 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

“Everything in that blog post was provably false,” said Stephen Horvath, Riggins’s lawyer, “and could not have happened.”

Again. What if she was raped. Would his lawyer say or do anything different?

He said no free beer was provided on the West Point campus

Could have certainly been a context where she got free beer from someone on West Point.

that drinking was prohibited by cadets

I know people from VMI, where drinking was prohibited, that drank constantly.

that Riggins did not have a car in 1986, would not have been allowed to drive it on campus

What if he did have a car and was driving it on campus? What if he was borrowing a friends car? And you either can or can't drive through a campus generally. If there are streets that aren't blocked off that go through campus they generally aren't stopping people that use them.

and that anyone emerging from the pedestrian tunnel couldn’t have been seen from the road.

Spatial memory about an event 30 years ago. Most people wouldn't necessarily remember that.

Shannon’s claims that her grades plunged after the event and that she returned her class ring were also untrue, Horvath said.

This one could I guess be a qualifiable lie, but he's still not disproving that there could have been a rape he's just proving that she doesn't have her facts straight about everything else. How do you return a class ring?

Again, all I wanted to know was what if she was raped? What if his lawyer did a great job picking apart her recollection to the point where they were able to ruin her financially for coming forward?

[–]escape_of_da_keets 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

At some point, someone is going to have to take something she says at face value. It's crazy you're willing to give her that much benefit of the doubt but can't accept the simple explanation that she's a crazy person.

[–]berserker87 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

At some point, someone is going to have to take something she says at face value.

Yeah, "at face value" people generally don't accuse people of rape.

It's crazy you're willing to give her that much benefit of the doubt

And it's kind of crazy how much this circlejerk doesn't give a shit. God forbid anyone actually challenge the "truth" in this kind of cancerous hivemind.

but can't accept the simple explanation that she's a crazy person.

And what if crazy people get raped? What if crazy people generally get used and victimized more as a function of them having a disorder? They're more likely to be manipulated and they're less likely to be believed. Sure, she could have been entirely full of shit. But what if she wasn't?

[–]escape_of_da_keets 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, I'm not going to believe her unless her or someone acting on her behalf can provide a coherent, verifiable account of the events that happened that day that doesn't completely fall apart under basic scrutiny.

Maybe she was raped at some point in her life by someone else and that's why she's like this. If so, that's a tragedy, but terrible shit happens to people every day whether they deserve it or not. Just because she's a woman doesn't make her any more entitled to the benefit of the doubt than the colonel. It's still innocent until proven guilty and the burden of proof is on her.

[–]berserker87 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, I'm not going to believe her unless her or someone acting on her behalf can provide a coherent, verifiable account of the events that happened that day that doesn't completely fall apart under basic scrutiny.

That's great. All I'm asking is what if she was raped? And look at how you're justifying yourself. I don't care about you.

If so, that's a tragedy, but terrible shit happens to people every day whether they deserve it or not.

No shit. And then cancerous hiveminds on the internet find ways to spin that terrible shit to serve the belligerent political tribalism they don't fully understand.

It's still innocent until proven guilty and the burden of proof is on her.

And when she failed to prove it her life was ruined. She will be paying money to the person she likely truly believes raped her for the rest of her life. What if she was raped?

What if you were raped and you have no way to prove it? What if you were raped by a person of high status and reputation that could sue you because you hurt their career? Is this going to make you more or less likely to come forward? At what point are you and this circlejerk no longer working against false accusations? At what point are you openly shilling for a legal and social system where a victim of rape risks their life being ruined if they can't perfectly prove it?

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points35 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Innocent untill proven guilty. By a court. A judge. And a jury. Who found that her allegations were false. So no, there was no rape. That was proven beyond reasonable doubt.

She basically not only ruined his career, but also undermined the stories of actual rape victims.

[–]ozzybear 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This was a civil trial, not a criminal trial where evidence has a lower barrier. It is not beyond a reasonable doubt but the preponderance of evidence, i.e. which is more believable. There is a significant difference between the two.

[–]BarristanTellMe 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you. I didn't know that.

[+]berserker87 -17 points-16 points-15 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Innocent untill proven guilty. By a court. A judge. And a jury.

In civil court. Neither side was found guilty of anything. And given how the defendent spoke they're sounded crazy, while the person suing them is a war hero.

So no, there was no rape.

No the investigation into the accusation found no evidence for or against it other than her claim, and he sued her for defamation.

That was proven beyond reasonable doubt.

It wasn't though.

She basically not only ruined his career, but also undermined the stories of actual rape victims.

Yeah. And remember this in the future when you or someone questions a rape victim about why they may hesitate to come forward or choose to stay silent. Her career and livelihood are now destroyed and people on the internet are celebrating. So, what if she was raped? What if her rapist sued her for ruining his career? What if a bunch of strangers then rallied in his defense and called her a dumb cunt after he ruined her financially because she hurt his reputation?

This circlejerk is "undermining the stories of actual rape victims."

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You can’t automatically believe someone is a rapist because someone is saying they did 30 years ago. There’s multiple problems with her story, from the fact there was no “FREE Beer” event at West Point. You couldn’t see the road from the tunnel. She even provided a witness that contradicted her claim Riggins picked her up, which was a big part of her story. The witness said he -the witness - picked her up. I understand the need to empower victims but that doesn’t mean you can demonize the accused without evidence. We should encourage victims to go to the police and to people who have the ability to prove their claims through DNA, search warrants etc. It is hard to get people found guilty at criminal trial; that’s not a bug, it’s a feature. Work on empowering victims rather than demonizing anyone whose been accused when they’ve provided more than enough evidence to the contrary.

[–]berserker87 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can’t automatically believe someone is a rapist because someone is saying they did 30 years ago.

And you shouldn't automatically believe that the accuser is lying now should you?

I understand the need to empower victims but that doesn’t mean you can demonize the accused without evidence.

All I'm asking is, what if she was raped? What if she got the facts wrong about something that you make a point to stress was 30 years ago? What if you're someone that was sexually abused or raped, and now you see this precedent? Not only does in permentantly entangle your life in a scandal, but if you misremember details about it you're liable to being sued and destroyed by the person you believe raped you.

We should encourage victims to go to the police

Sure but this thread is pretty clear with it's alternative intent. We should willify and celebrate publicly that the accuser's life is ruined. We should call them a cunt.

It is hard to get people found guilty at criminal trial; that’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Which gets easily bugged and manipulated when we're talking about crimes that frequently involve sexually sadistic sociopaths taking advantage of people that nobody believes. Just assuming that she actually was raped, she had no legal means to get criminal justice because there was no evidence, while he was able to sue her for millions for fucking up his promotion. Most jurors would be the types of easily convinced dipshits that they would presuppose that if he was guilty of rape he wouldn't file a civil lawsuit against his accuser.

Work on empowering victims

Dumb cunt.

rather than demonizing anyone whose been accused when they’ve provided more than enough evidence to the contrary.

He didn't prove he wasn't there though. Just that she recalled information that wasn't accurate. I agree that there's a scary trend where any accusation is believed and people that get accused are "demonized." But this is kind of a horrifying precedent for actual rape victims, and clearly some kind of fantasy tribalism win thing for the type of edgy faggot rape fantasy incels that circlejerk ITT. The fact that people are celebrating this as some kind of win for anyone says exactly how cancerous this hivemind is.

[–]bobsp 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great victim shaming there

I know right. Setting the precedent that coming forward about rape that you can't prove can lead to being sued by your rapist for millions.

The woman who for no reason what so ever decided to wait 20+ years to accuse someone of something

I think this circlejerk is a good example of reasons why people don't come forward. You kind of hate this woman and because she represents a political issue that you've been conditioned to emotionally respond to.

and made sure to post it on her "blog" for attention, just isn't sketchy to you.

I mean, blogs are just how people journal now. What would you suggest a victim of rape should do when they see that their rapist or whatever years later?

This is the reason this sub exists.

No it isn't. There's no actual evidence that she's lying. It's he said she said and "this sub" and everyone ITT clearly came to the comments presupposing his innocence and her guilt.

It's people like you

that some random asshole 30 years in the future will just make up some bullshit in the hopes of becoming famous while destroying our lives.

You're presupposing that he didn't rape her. And you're projecting your victimhood complex onto some stranger.

Nice that you love it that men can so easily be falsely accused

I don't. Why are you so desperate to lump anyone that challenges your irrational reactionary beliefs? Why is it either that I'm in your cult or I love that there are inherent dilemmas in our legal system when it comes to sex?

and until recently the criminal didn't see much of any consequences of their crime.

What if he's guilty of raping the victim? What if he's the type of malignant sociopath that got off on being able to sue his rape accuser and ruin their life?

What if you got raped then when you tried to speak up for yourself they sued you for defamation and forced you into a situation where you had to send them most of your money for the rest of your life?

[–]bobsp 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's not presupposing anything. The case has been tried and the evidence shows that he very likely did not do it and that everything that could be checked showed that she made demonstrably false statements.

What if? I really don't understand this speculative reasoning. I suspect your issue is that they "can't prove or disprove", but you have to understand that saying in a legal parlance. It doesn't really mean "he might have raped her, we just can't prove it." It means we don't think it happened, but we can't prove it didn't. If their was any teeth to the accusations, this would not have been the case. And let's be realistic, if a person lies about A,B,C,D,E what are the chances that F is going to be a little nugget of truth just waiting to come out. This woman was found to have repeatedly lied and fabricated almost every detail of the rape story, but you want us to believe that she might have been raped but just chose to completely bullshit the details? If you expect every case in the court to be settled to a point of absolutes, you will rarely find a case that is truly settled by your standards

[–]berserker87 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What if? I really don't understand this speculative reasoning.

What if there's now precedent that a rapist can sue their accuser for millions of dollars?

I suspect your issue is that they "can't prove or disprove"

Of course it is.

but you have to understand that saying in a legal parlance.

I think you may if you're here celebrating this.

It doesn't really mean "he might have raped her, we just can't prove it." It means we don't think it happened, but we can't prove it didn't.

No. It doesn't. It means someone accused him of rape and in the initial investigation they couldn't find any evidence other than he said she said. They couldn't prove it one way or the other.

And let's be realistic, if a person lies about A,B,C,D,E what are the chances that F is going to be a little nugget of truth just waiting to come out.

What did she lie about? And what if people that lie get raped? What if crazy hysterical people with mood disorders get raped?

This woman was found to have repeatedly lied and fabricated almost every detail of the rape story

Where did it say that though?

but you want us to believe that she might have been raped but just chose to completely bullshit the details?

I'm simply asking what if she actually was raped. The trial was to determine if she had defamed him, with his innocence likely presupposed.

If you expect every case in the court to be settled to a point of absolutes

I don't necessarily expect anything from the legal system. Look at this thread. Look at the highest upvoted comment calling her a dumb cunt. You poindexters clearly want this to as unambiguous and absolute as possible given the amount of rage directed at this stranger and backlash to me asking a simple question. Why the down votes? This is actually a decent question. One which was not answered thoroughly enough in the article. I for one am swayed on the side that she did make it up. Cause the jury in the private case saw to award damages but that could solely be on the merits of defamation. And not the false allegation. Juries have convicted incorrectly before.

Either way its a pretty shitty article that doesn't give enough details of the court decision and people shouldn't be down voting because it disagrees with their own views. Fuck. Am I addressing the feminazis crowd here?

[–]RustaBhymes 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it's because the guy is defending her on the premise that she might have actually been raped, when numerous facts in the article show that her entire story is highly disingenuous. The guy keeps saying "but what if", when it's fairly obvious that this was a made up story. He is almost excusing all of her lies because the guy couldn't "prove he didn't rape her", when in reality, it's not something that's can be proven. I mean unless you are Justin Beiber getting signatures, or you only have sex with women who agree on video then allow you to film every interaction, can you prove you consent absolutely? No. If you went to court and said, " But I didn't rape her. We had great date, went to my place, had sex. She had breakfast at my place, I walked her home, we had a kiss at the door and I left." Nothing in those actions can absolutely prove that you didn't rape the woman, but her actions following an alleged rape can be examined to determine her state of mind. That's what happened here. She says rape, he says no, so they have to use what evidence is available. The case presented seemed to show that her actions and character were those of s woman who was not truthful in telling her story. The downvotes guy is basicslly asking everyone to ignore all those facts and not be so hard on her because dude cannot 100% prove he didn't rape her. That's an unfair and dangerous burden of proof.

And that’s why the majority of high profile sexual abuse accusations usually have merit.

You can’t just waltz on to the scene and cry foul and besmirch a persons character without ruining your own life. I know it can happen... but it’s not as common as a certain political group wants you to believe.

[–]SC2samspends too much time spreading u/cicero44's ass cheeks apart 58 points59 points60 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No they don't and in fact the majority of them have little to no merit which is showcased on how they go about "reporting" it. Michael Jackson was accused of shit and was completely innocent but yet his name is still thrown through the mud. Hell his accusers were RECORDED ON THE PHONE talking about how they were going to fake the accusation to get money out of the guy. Bill Cosby had 60+ women accuse him and all but a single one was thrown out of court due to being so blatantly unreliable thanks to their constant story changing. Oh guess who took care of their cases? The same cunt that helped to fuck over Michael Jackson numerous times. Then the most current one, Louis CK who's being destroyed all because he had the fucking audacity to ASK the women if he could do something and then when they said yes he would do it when they said no he wouldn't. Well FUCK HIM for getting consent right?

If the accusers go to the news first they are 99% of the time absolutely bullshit and assholes like you do not care that the accused get their lives ruined because of it.

You live in some world where you think police go out of their way to disregard any rape accusation or that they make it super hard to get help. It's complete horse shit. Cops will go out of their way to help so much help in fact that in 1 out of 4 times that a MAN calls the police for a domestic issue i/e he's being attacked by the woman, HE GOES TO JAIL.

You want to talk about making it hard on anyone to bring up things? Why don't you talk about that. You won't though because it's men getting fucked over constantly and you don't care about that. You just want the standard feminist hate speech reiterated lies to be spread everywhere so you can continue to act like women are always the victim of everything all the time.

In cases of falsely accused rape why is it always the victims picture they use in the article and not the guilty party?

[–]blazing420kilk 440 points441 points442 points 8 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Because of some horse-shit about how that would stop actual rape victims from coming forward

[+]Chinomenal -248 points-247 points-246 points 8 years ago* (20 children) | Copy Link

How is this horse-shit? It‘s a completely valid reason.

Edit: Guys, I'm only saying the face of the convict/accused shouldn't be published and NOT that the face of the victim should be published instead.

[–]MrRikka 160 points161 points162 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Because they’ve been proven to have lied? If they hadn’t lied, there picture shouldn’t be shared. If you falsely accuse someone of rape, you deserve the repercussions - but only if found guilty or perjury/libel or whatever, not just because the accused was found not guilty.

[+]Chinomenal -79 points-78 points-77 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I mean even if they are proven to have lied, actual victims could still be scared about being called a liar or getting “exposed” in a newspaper. In this case the women got rightfully convicted and this on its own is sufficient to show potential liars the repercussion they could face. I really don’t see the need to expose them any further.

[–]MrRikka 53 points54 points55 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

The argument isn’t whether or not they need to be exposed, it’s that a photo of the victim is less appropriate than the accused - in fact, surely having a photo of the victim is more likely to prevent someone from coming forward? In this case, it’s the victims photo that was published. So by your logic this would mean someone making an accusation of a crime maybe be discouraged from doing so because their picture might get published.

[–]psuedophilosopher 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, if I was falsely accused of rape, and then exonerated to such an extent that my accuser was forced to pay me millions of dollars, I would want my face all over the articles saying that I am not a rapist. That way, when people Google it they will know that I didn't do it.

[+]Chinomenal -35 points-34 points-33 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

No, my point is that neither of the faces should be published. Showing the faces of either of them doesn’t do do any good.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So you're saying that if that guy had raped the girl, his face shouldn't be shown either?

[–]modernbenoni2 points 8 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

I think that the accuser's face should be published. Name and shame. The benefit it serves is in punishing the perpetrator and deterring others. Once somebody has been found guilty of something they lose most expectation to privacy regarding the case.

[–]Chinomenal -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I can understand your point, but really, what does it help? It only condones harassment against the accuser (which is still illegal, even though the accuser is a criminal himself) He shouldn't lose his human rights only because he is a criminal. I don't agree with this eye-for-an-eye-mentality.

[–]modernbenoni1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you think that there should always be anonymity for the accused/accuser in criminal cases? Outside of rape cases I mean, as you could always get the problem you're describing.

[–]MrRikka -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh in that case, I agree. Apologies for misunderstanding!

[–]Chinomenal 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

deleted What is this?

[–]Chinomenal -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I already said, I don’t think the pictures of victims of rape allegations should be published under any circumstance. It puts them in the spotlight and therefore condones harassment by people who still believe the victim is guilty.

[–]gellis12 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

False rape accusations are the only time that the picture of the victim is plastered all over the news instead of pictures of the guilty party.

If the man actually did rape her, her identity would be protected and pictures of the rapist would be plastered all over the news, and that would be acceptable. But given that it's been proven that she lied and therefore committed a crime, most people would argue that continuing to put the victims face everywhere while protecting the privacy of the false accuser is not.

[–]septicboy 94 points95 points96 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The accused said that what he cared about was the vindication. She will also not have to pay more than about $2 million since there are state caps on damages. Still though, she will pay for lying her ass off and destroying a mans life and career.

He's not going to see much of 2.3 either, so it's not like 8 or 2.3 really matters. If he's satisfied with the vindication and his name being cleared, great. Her punishment should have been jail(and monetary damages) anyways. He still retired as an O-6, and in a perfect world he'd be allowed to resume his career as an O-7 if he wanted, but oh well.

Why won't he? Aren't her wages going to be garnished for the rest of her life until she pays it off?

[–]Rockztar 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In Virginia, punitive damages are limited to $350,000, and lawyers for both sides said the compensatory damages would likely be reduced to $2 million, leaving a final judgment of $2.3 million against Shannon, a stay-at-home mother of three teenagers.

I don't think there are many wages to garnish from a stay-at-home mom.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, false accusers should get the punishment the falsely accused would have gotten, plus damages in my opinion. That would fix quite a few different problems with society and save a lot of resources. Having people at least a little afraid of falsely accusing people would mean less wasted resources on trumped-up accusations and actually feed back into helping fix the deficit in individual municipalities. It's not all doom and gloom either. It would also promote a thought process to double-check and do some fact finding before officially submitting any kind of accusations. that would take the entire "thing" past the emotionally reactive stage and into the later stages of coherent thought around determining if you're over-reacting before considering destroying someone's life.

[–]MeTheBusinessMan 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they don't clearly mean that.

Plus if that lady still has underage children, won't that affect their lives as well?

I'm pretty sure jail time would impact underage children more than some amount of wage garnishment. Don't you?

i am not defending this woman at all, just saying, holy fuck can you imagine owing $8.4 mil, lol

fucked for life. what a great punishment for someone like this, i think it's awesome. Let them live their life, free, making money and all that instead of being locked up on the taxpayers dime.

This woman will be reminded of her actions every. single. payday. I wish we did punishment more like this for non-violent crimes, financial punishment for a normal-non-millionaire-type is just as bad or worse than prison imo

edit: this woman is a blogger with like three kids at home. there is no situation on this earth where this woman isn't already on welfare. taxpayers are already paying for her life and let's get real, she ain't ever going to pay this guy a fucking dime. Maybe prison was the right idea in the first place.

My justice boner is throbbing.

[–]sennhauser 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have some scripture for all the people who lied at my trial. Also, for the jurors & judge who denied me justice. Riggin's mother is old and close to death and none of you know when you will die. God hates perjury and false witness. This is for #JohnRabena, #ChrisRigoni, #DavidWRiggins, #wilriggins, #NancyRiggins,#RigginsSister, #RigginsMother, #PamMcKey (My Sister): “So I will come to PUT YOU ON TRIAL. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and PERJURERS, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty.... Surely the day is coming; it will BURN LIKE A FURNACE. All the ARROGANT AND EVILDOERs WILL STUMBLE, and the day that is coming will SET THEM ON FIRE,” says the Lord Almighty." ~ Malachi 3 & 4 You have won over me in this world, but God is my witness against you eternally. He is on my side and he will vindicate me. Nothing will ever change the truth of what happened on that night in 1986. Nothing. I spared Riggins and his family from all vengeance. The Army came to me for a statement. I never went to them. It was God's will, not mine. And even then, God spared him. Riggins' own evil condemned him. He couldn't stop his evil ways during the investigation. He couldn't stop lying and his own lies doomed his promotion. Had he just said, "I didn't do it" like an innocent man would have done, he could have gotten away with it. But like a guilty man, he made up an elaborate lie that fell apart under scrutiny. THAT is why he didn't get promoted. Only politics saved him from prison. The Army didn't want the embarrassment of convicting a colonel that was nominated by President Obama for general. So, they quietly set him aside instead of putting him in jail. And I allowed them to do so out of mercy. I told them that I didn't want to see him in prison. How FOOLISH of me! The moment he voluntarily quit the Army (like a baby who didn't get what he wanted), he sued me for not getting his promotion. He had no appreciation for being spared from prison. THIS is the evil of the man. He knew he had been spared and still, he wanted more. God sees everything. Everything. Most people wouldn't believe that a man would go to such an extent as suing his former victim- but such men exist. They are morally bankrupt. Some woman wrote one of my readers and said that Riggins goes to church regularly. I hope so. I hope he does. I hope that deep down, he really believes in God. Because if he does, then he is afraid of death and what awaits him. He will have no peace inside after what he has done to me and my family. He has even tormented his own wife and family. He has asked them to trust him in this matter. It can't be easy for them to trust him in the face of my accusations. How many women are willing to lose everything in accusing a man of raping them? What have I gained by doing so? Nothing. Only pain and torment. I crave only justice. And have been denied. I have accepted my loss in court. Man's court. But I know that in a few short years, I will have satisfaction. Deep satisfaction. The TRUTH will come out. To everyone. My deeds and everyone's deeds will have a bright light shined on them. I, for one, can't wait!

She and her lawyer, Benjamin Trichilo, said in an interview that they felt Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Daniel E. Ortiz wrongly prevented them from presenting witnesses and evidence about Riggins’s past

Look, I can understand how showing previous behavior could demonstrate a certain behavior tendency but the jury clearly outright rejected your claims.

5mil in punitive damages is their way of saying they were well beyond "reasonable doubt", they were 100% sure you concocted the entire story and want to explicitly punish you to avoid future such incidents from either you or copycats.

Yup, he'll never see a cent of that money.

Shannon resigned from the academy in the spring of 1986, near the end of her junior year

So she could not cut it, even with the reduced standards, and gave up.

She writes frequently on her blog, Short Little Rebel, about her Christian faith

The marriage of feminism and Christianity is complete. Where else can a post wall, baggage draggin, land whale find a bunch of white-knight, hat-tippin simps? In a church of course! I'm certain that this is the next frontier for feminism.
