My ex wife is the same way. Divorced for 2 years - I’m busting my ass trying to keep up on cost of living and child support; she collects state benefits and sits on her ass watching reality tv (when she’s not busy blowing her latest victim). Guess the state feels that a blowjob is still a job.

I don't know if this helps but you're not alone. My ex stopped working a year into our 10 year marriage and never worked another day. I think maybe we shared chores but once the kids came it was send them to preschool when he's at work for a couple days a week or all day afternoons then complain I'm tired when he gets home and that he has to take over unless I have house renos or soemthing for him. I toughed it out having almost no time to myself until everyone was asleep but it wasn't enough. She still wanted out. She wanted out for a while before we mutually agreed and started the process which has been delayed so long itself. She's had a couple years of divorce process (including financial part settled a year ago and me moving out). Prob 3-4 years since she knew she wanted out until now to work towards financial independence.. and still hasn't even looked for a job I think. Has rich family and child support from me. Is expecting an additional 10k from me for section 7 expenses from last year when I barely save anything end of month... It doesn't stop after divorce unfortunately.. although if she doesn't have rich family maybe she won't be able to do the same

Some people are just flat out leeches. They don't contribute anything to society. She's found a doctor within a year of me moving out prob so she never has to work

Wildly antiquated. My ex was a strong modern woman, and how dare I suggest she clean, cook, or do the laundry while I'm working. That is oppression and abuse! Fucker is still collecting alimony and not working, at least for a couple more months.

This totally burns me up. I never pushed her to expand her education or build a career, while I worked to build up savings, retirement, the kids education funds, a house, etc. Now, she got a license and is ready to start a career AND gets to walk away with half of it. Fuck this shit.

The government believes the reason is because couples who agree to marry will split their resources close to perfect as possible. If you live off one income, then the other will do whatever they can to support a family unit.

In reality: it’s pretty much never even and it is a lot easier for lazy people to slack at home when they don’t have a boss or any superior to hold them in check.

The courts don’t have any good way to gather a full picture of what happened over many years. It would be so incredibly expensive to have an attorney and experts go through years and years of records. Thus, they just assume as close to 50-50 as possible. It’s a rule, not a standard. Kind of like getting a speeding ticket. If you are clocked going over, then you are getting a ticket. You can argue it and maybe get it reduced, but over 90% or the time you are just going to pay it.

It sucks man. It goes against the breadwinner, which is usually the man. We have a modern view that women can be anything they want and make tons of money, yet our laws have not adapted and they treat women like pitiful housewives from the 1950s. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but you can’t have it both ways. If you want to be a businesswoman and make tons of money and have all of the opportunities men have, then we have to cool it on all of the laws that treat men and women disproportionately. Equality is equality and that goes both ways.

It's really not about earnings, it's about standard of living. But it's not about her having the same standard of living, but that each if you have a similar standard of living, which us assumed by the court to be less than a your married one house standard (two can not live as cheaply as one). The other consideration is not what she needs but also what you can afford. But afford with a similar standard of living. So you both lived in a house, now you'll both live in a townhouse. At least that's the rule in Florida.
