I'd be careful about making anything of their being pregnant. Pregnancy is often the first time people will get STI tested as it's part of the medical testing that takes place. Because it's a point where things get picked up it just reflects a general increase.

How did OP come to the conclusion STD's increasing in pregnant women is because all women are having sex with the same man instead of them getting it from their own male partners? Because the article says nothing about the relationship status of the women.

There's an overall laxness about condoms and sexual health visits among the current fertile generation of both men and women. AIDS scared the shit out of us back in the 80s and 90s but then it became a manageable chronic condition not a death sentence and as the older generations who lived through the AIDS epidemic are replaced by younger people who didn't that level of caution has been reduced.

There's even in some parts of the economy people having kids now who weren't even raised by people who were particularly aware of public issues in the worst of the AIDS era. Lots of lessons to be learned again.

I'm gen X and I've never had a partner I didn't go to the STD clinic with in the early stages of the relationship for testing then mutual release of results. Not separately. Together. And then I'd get my regular pap smears done at the STD clinic because it was walk in so less trouble than the GP and it was nice to be tested.

Having unprotected sex increases your chances of getting an STD. Having unprotected sex can also make you pregnant.

Just have protected sex and get tested, for God’s sake, or abstain. It’s not just Syphilis, but Herpes & HIV. These are incurable diseases that stay with you all your life. Many STD transmitters are dormant carriers that show no symptoms or fail to disclose their disease to their partners.

I don’t know where these people are. I’ve had sex with over 50 women and hardly ever used condoms. I just went and did my routine STD test again, which was negative for everything, just like always. I even asked for the herpes specific test that includes HSV 1 and 2, and was negative for both of those as well.

STD’s always seemed like way overblown hype to me. I’ve literally done everything wrong and never gotten anything. I figured I MUST have asymptomatic herpes by now, as it’s extremely common. I can’t imagine how nasty of a fucker one must have to be to be walking around with undiagnosed syphilis, god damn.

I think it's a well-known fact that heterosexual women and gay men have the highest rates of STD.. Heterosexual men are lucky (because of anatomy) and don't have to deal with high rates of STD.. Either way, sex belongs in the marital bed between one man and one woman... It doesn't belong anywhere else.

Covid also played a role in recent years because people were not testing as much.
