If I understand, you have a financial obligation of 11k*5*12 + 10k*5*12 = 1.26m. You said you make 30k/month. That would be 3.5 years of net income. Is not too horrifying. Just pay 11k/month, save 15k/month, live with 4k/month, you'll be done in 4 years.

Also, how is it possible that with such high salary your assets are relatively small?

If you are not attached to your business... have you considered the opposite?

Why doesn't she keep the business?

if you end up with half of all retirement funds, half of those 425k from the business and 7-9k alimony... You will be far ahead for retirement and you could always buy another business to run with your retirement funds or whatever she allowed you to have.

I’m going into bulldog mode and am going to knock this alimony down in duration and amount.

She has $387,000 in the bank and $229,000 in retirement assets and I have $535,000 in retirement assets only. She is more liquid than me by a long shot. Their forensic accountant valued my business at $475,000 and they wanted me to put money on her side of the ledger!!!

I know I have to pay the piper, $7000 per month at 17 years is HER number though. My blowhsrd useless lawyer spent half the time talking about nothing I kept having to get him to focus on number crunching. I was so angry with my guys effort I asked him for my money back after it was over . He was gone half the time during the 7 hours and he was totally useless! He charged me $2000 upfront for 5 hours and then had the nerve to try to get more afterwards, and then I realized he overcharged me, my rate was $350 not $400

Make sure you have the alimony be modifiable so if your income goes down you can claim a hardship and go back to court

What is the likely result if you just let the judge decide? Florida just got rid of permanent alimony.

It certainly seems unfair that you have to pay her now for 1/2 of the value of your business then also give her 1/2 of your net income for your labor in the business.

By analogy, let say you have a grove of fruit trees, she wants you to pay her 1/2 the value the trees and still get 1/2 of the fruit upon harvest. Why would she get both?

A lot of places no longer give alimony or significant alimony when the x is able bodied and when they do it is for a transition period to enable the x to get back into the workforce. She seems to be much younger than you so she has a much longer time to provide for her retirement. Transition period maybe 2 to 5 years.

Some jurisdictions grant alimony at 40% of your net less 50% of her net or what she could make full time. That would be around $7K.

Traditional retirement was usually at age 65 and that would suggest that an upper max at 7 years for duration.

Playing with your numbers under method 1 imputing her income the max alimony is $5600 a month. But it can be less if her monthly expenses per Florida guidelines are less than $5600 it can be lower. Chill out. Slow down the process until you have a good understanding of her income and her actual historical living expenses. And since your lawyer never did this or told you anything…say you re fired! Look up Florida Durational Alimony Calculator and figure out her true expenses.

I would say that firstly, money now is worth more than money later. You can make any deal with her that you can, ideally without getting terribly scathed.

But this amount seems like an absolutely absurd amount of money to be paying alimony. Are you sure that’s the right amount? Are bringing in millions per year? Absolutely wild that someone can earn 6 figures+ by just having been married before. I mean I get a living amount if they stayed at home and did shit..
