Woman here. Trust me. This happens in the reverse too. For sure. For example - I have a friend who’s mid fifties now. She was a babe when she was young. She’s had a couple of incidents where guys who were friends from her past reached out to reconnect then realized she’s older and not as hot and all of a sudden they don’t want to talk or be her friend anymore.

Respect can be given or earned its another topic, I usually give it to others till they respect my boundaries, if they go too far, let them know. If you're firm about who you are and you can stand up for yourself girls and people gonna respect you. I have no doubt about that and it doesn't matter how attracted she is to you it's a different thing

But if people, including women, regularly deny you basic respect, the reason is probably your own behaviour. If you don't respect yourself and stand up for yourself, others wont do either.

Observe the behaviour of people. Middle aged men with beer guts and bad breath get treated with normal respect. Is it because they are attractive? No. It's because they radiate confidence and presence.

i’m sorry but most guys i know won’t even look at a woman, much less in the eyes while talking, if they don’t find them remotely attractive. i’ve heard this sentiment echoed by several other women. when i’m not attracted to a man, i still make a conscious effort to treat them well, so this is an overgeneralization. attractive people are always treated better, regardless of gender, and women have it worse imo

As someone who used to think this, but then woke up and realized that it was me, not them, and then proceeded to work on myself…I hope you find clarity soon. A more accurate general statement would be that women don’t respect validation-seeking, needy dudes. Women have a pretty keen sense of whether you’re confident in your own skin by observing how you interact with them and whether you can hold eye contact with them. You’re not safe for them if you’re not even safe within yourself. Just some thoughts. I’m still on my own personal journey and catch myself still getting into this way of thinking from time to time, but I am able to reframe it because I know this generalization isn’t true from my own experiences.

I think overall this points back to pretty privilege being a real effect that influences daily life more than we know. I have definitely been guilty of looking down on certain guys, maybe teasing them and complaining about them. Still, anyone who doesn’t acknowledge this also happens in reverse is kidding themselves. As a female I have been looked down on many times at work and in college. Guys who aren’t interested in me will treat me like I’m stupid and assume I can’t do basic tasks. Those same guys will give their girlfriends the benefit of the doubt any day. Overall people can be assholes, but thankfully some people aren’t. that’s the beauty of life.

Wait, why on the blue and green earth should a woman respect anyone they don't want to? Respect is always earned. It in no way is a default everyone gets or deserves for being born.

As for treating a man as less than if I'm not attracted to him, again, of course. He's meaningless to me. He gets treated the way I treat everyone who is a meaningless or irrelevant stranger to me - with disinterested politeness. I'd give him directions if he was lost, if he was hurt I'd try to help as best I could until the right medical folk got there, maybe a please and thank you if I'm feeling sunny, and holding a door provided it doesn't really put me behind. But that's it. He's owed nothing else. And it isn't very different for women. Why on earth should this be any other way? Feel free to ignore beyond the norms of politeness the women who you aren't attracted to as well. This isn't unreasonable

Womanly behavior and those kind of manners aren't expected, demanded, required, or reasonable to give everyone. Those are special treatment. Special treatment extended to those worthy of either respect or who I think are cute enough I want to attract. We cannot treat everyone the same or our treatment means nothing.

I think if men or anyone is having this sort of problem with people not respecting them then they really need to look within. Why aren’t you a person who women don’t respect? Fix it. You’ll be a much happier person if you learn to fix the problems internally rather than say “women don’t respect me if I’m not attractive.” Try to be the best version of yourself that you truly can be and everyone will respect you. If they still don’t. They aren’t worth your time.

Men have this same exact problem. I just read a story about how a group of girls who decided to go to the club. A bunch of guys were in the VIP section and invited some of the girls in. When one of the girls tried to enter the guys didn’t want her there because she was overweight and considered unattractive. So it goes both ways

You know I go for runs daily and I always try to move out of the way of others and I notice them doing the same. Sometimes I don't move because Im in the zone and I noticed that attractive women will look at me, look back down on their phone and most times they won't move, they will expect me to move or we will literally bump into each other...I have bumped into several women because they think that things will magically move out of their way. Its kind of crazy lol. Its especially crazy to me since I am physically bigger than most women so they should think about their safety (unlike a big dude that doesn't fear me running into him). But the thing is that they are so used to people just giving them whatever they want in life without effort that they are conditioned to believe that everyone is going to bow down to them.
