I came to this thought when I found myself laughing at a meme which was blatantly misogynistic. Immediately afterwards I felt the sting of guilt for doing a Bad Thing.

Now, I can try to defend myself by saying things like "I was only laughing at it ironically! What I found humorous was the sheer audacity of the meme - I'm not actually a misogynist." But in an imaginary argument with a woman, I simply am not able to justify myself to her. She comes away suspecting that deep down, I am a misogynist, and there isn't any way I can convince her otherwise - the cat is out of the bag, because I've revealed myself by laughing at something which I "shouldn't" have found funny at all.

This got me to wondering - are there truly men out there who have an ideal sense of humor, as proscribed by intersectional feminism? Because I'd think that a man with NO sense of humor wouldn't actually be that great of a partner for the vast majority of women. But a man who has a "perfect" sense of humor would be one who never laughs at an inappropriate joke - he only finds something genuinely funny if it is appropriately framed and targeting the right group (i.e. "punching up" rather than down).

I welcome a woman's perspective here - what do you do when a man you're close to laughs at something that you don't think "should" be funny? Do you know men in your life who never laugh at the wrong thing, perhaps even in spite of themselves? If you're romantically interested in men, would you prefer to be with one who has an ideal sense of humor?
