Those responses reinforce the fact that attraction is not something that logical and that's why a lot guys struggle when they're overly fixated on learning game theory and technique.
Also, I'd like to point out that there are way too many men out there getting obsessed with getting away from that "nice guy" concept. What they don't realize is that good manners, empathy and an overall positive mindset don't make you a "nice guy". Being needy and a pushover does. As a result you got insecure confused men trying to over-compensate by turning into douchebags, putting down women and becoming self-obsessed. The only type of women you'll get by becoming an asshole are the emotionally damaged and if you're really putting on act then even those will see right through the bullshit.
Anyway, seduction is a mixture of building comfort and tension while understanding both the logical and the emotional state of a woman at the time and therefore calibrating accordingly. In my opinion calibration is key in all kinds of social interactions, if you really get to understand how to work your way around it then half of the work is done. Don't waste your time obsessing with technique, be present and cultivate observation and intuition.

Are there any books you can recommend on this? My emotional intelligence and calibration is pretty low.
[–]imageall 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I recently got a book called "never split the difference" by Chris Voss about negotiating (he's a former FBI terrorist hostage negotiator) and empathy and observation/intuition is basically core to the practice. His skill is how to figure out what a person's perspective is and really understand what motivates them before trying to move towards what you want. It may be a relevant read.
[–]warm_theory 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hey man, honestly I'm not even sure what emotional intelligence stands for and I'm always really skeptical about books that are somewhat paralel with self-help. Actually the only book I usually recommend on this sub is "Models" by Mark Manson, it lays out a great foundation that goes beyond techniques and the usual pua gimmicks.
Not sure if it is what you're looking for but def give it a read if you haven't yet!

There’s no better teacher than experience. You can read all you want about swimming but until you actually get in the pool you’ll never really know, no matter how many books you read on the subject 😉

I'm not saying said books don't exist but I don't think they would be the most efficient way to improve. I think that like with any other skill, it really comes down to practice. Theory can help get you off the ground but there's more than enough of that in this thread already.

Yes, this all makes sense, but calibration is tricky. If you overly focus on it, then you become REACTIVE to her. She is essentially taking the lead and this is an attraction killer.
As much as we preach calibration, I don't think it's something you can apply in real time. It's something you learn (assuming you give yourself honest feedback) as you gain experience with women. IE, more interactions, more dates, more bringing her back to your place. It has to become more intuitive. If it requires conscious effort, then you will surely go into reaction mode and will be following her lead.
I think the best thing to do is have fun, share that feeling with her and DGAF. If she likes you enough and you are fun, then she will forgive a lot more things you might be doing wrong. I mean, do try to be empathetic and learn to read her reactions. If you can adjust and re-calibrate on the spot that's great. Do so and move one. Often, it's about absorbing this info and knowing what you did wrong AFTER the date/interaction or whatever. After having "digested" it. That's what it's like for me, anyways. In the moment, let loose and self express. Once you are better, more comfortable with yourself and with women, it will be easier and more natural. You will calibrate more intuitively.
EDIT: Calibration done right is LEADING, assessing her reaction, adjusting accordingly or continuing forward. You can't hesitate and ask her how she is feels about it, even non-verbally. Women want a man to just KNOW. I mean, if she really likes you, she will gently hint and try to guide you, but only subtly and minimally so. You should be grateful for just that. As crass as the comparison is, do you want to date a fat chick and explain to her about nutrition, exercise and patiently wait for her to become fit and gorgeous? No, you just want her to know how to do this and execute. You're not going to help her become attractive to you. Unless you are already in a committed relationship maybe, but you get the point.

"Those responses reinforce the fact that attraction is not something that logical and that's why a lot guys struggle when they're overly fixated on learning game theory and technique."
A lot of guys struggle because what would seduce them and what seduces women are very different. Getting a guy into bed can be pretty formulaic. Dress nicely and be somewhat attractive, start talking to him, laugh at his jokes, at the end of a date kiss him or whisper in his ear that you want him to come back to your place and boom the majority of men are going to fall for that.
Girls on the other hand need a very tailored approach. If you were that generalized with girls unless you're near model attractive, famous, or rich then it won't work the majority of the time.
[–]ethical_pa 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
whisper in his ear that you want him to come back to your place
Haha... ok. I'd say that unless you are "near model attractive, famous, or rich" then this won't happen the majority of the time (or at all).
The whole thing is a mind fuck honestly. You have to have gauged throughout the date whether she is receptive to the idea. The man should just know. If you ask her to come to your place and she's not ready, you risk turning her off and coming across as needy. IF you DON'T try to get her back to your place, you risk looking like a pussy and too timid. The man should just know.
If she says no at first, you have to gauge whether she really wants to but doesn't want to say it and feel like a slut. If you let it go, you both go home frustrated. If you try again and she really didn't want to, you might look like you're not respecting her boundaries and coming across as too pushy. The man should just know.
Once back at your place, then the mind fuck continues... etc, etc. You should just know. It's honestly exhausting. Personally, unless the chemistry is really hot, I think I will stop taking girls back to mine on the first date. The mind fuck of LTR and "apartment game" just isn't worth it to me. Frankly, it kills the mood.
EDIT; actually looking back, even when I thought the chemistry was really good, I've had it all fall apart and become uncomfortable at my place. I've had the opposite happen too, but just saying... there's no rhyme or reason to it. You just have to accept the inevitable mind fuck :/

Bud the first point is advice for a woman and how easy it is to get an average man. I agree trying to get a girl as a guy is far harder.
Also there's tricks to see if she's interested in coming over without making her feel slutty. Get a reason for her to come over and see something.

The type that are really over dramatic, the ones that blow up your phone when you take time to text back, the ones that start arguments over nonsense, get jealous and over react. Basically really needy and manipulative girls
[–]disciplinedFreedom 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To add on to what a “nice guy” is: he is also a guy who is only being nice to get something out of the transaction. Other ways haven’t worked for him. “If I’m nice, she’ll be my girlfriend and sleep with me”. This is being very dishonest, and that is what a girl can “sense” when she’s around a nice guy. If he will lie about this, he will lie about anything. A douchebag is more trustworthy and honest, although still a douchebag
[–]Airporthoboxd 31 points32 points33 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That's because attraction is all subconscious. Even if a date goes bad and the girl rejects you/flakes, if you were to call her up and ask her what went wrong? They never know. They'll just say that so.ething just felt weird or off but they can never pinpoint exactly what it was you did wrong.
[–]sloanpal144 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yes they can. When they're with their girlfriends they talk all kinds of shit about why theyve turned down guys, and they'll be extremely specific.
[–]Airporthoboxd 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Actually no they don't. If anything they'll just say superficial shit like.it wasn't expensive enough etc to show that they have high standards and look good around her friends. But that dele da on the girl and the type of friends she has. What I'm talking about is her and you specifically. If her girlfriend ds were to ask.her what didn't she like about you, she MIGHT say looks etc but in reality if you had bad looks and shit she wouldn't have met you in the first place. So basically she wouldn't really pinpoint EXACTLY what you did to.make the date go arwy. Shells just say you were "weird" etc.
[–]sloanpal144 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I guess you're just not perceptive enough. In my experience they have been very direct about guys they dont like.

Well for instance, not having matching personalities, different values, too pushy for sex or being rude, turning out not to be like they though he was like, small penis, too much of a little bitch, lives with parents, has no job or drive, has an awkward personality.

Eh, it's really not a very good metaphor at all. A trout doesn't have any higher brain functions so why would you ever ask a trout anything? Also women WANT to be caught (by high quality men) while a trout does not.
Not to say the actual underlying message it's trying to get across is wrong, though.

No it’s completely illogical for the reasons given below.
[–]fullbleie 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's not a comparison, it's a metaphor.
[–]7121958041201 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Metaphors are a type of implied comparison. They are fairly synonymous with each other.
[–]fullbleie 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Metaphors are a figure of speech, sometimes with implied comparison. This is not one of those cases. I understand that fish can't speak, which would render asking it for fishing advice useless.
My point was that in a magical world where fish could speak, they A) might not want to give you the right advice to catch themselves (exposing their weaknesses) and B) they might not have the experience or self awareness needed to see the big picture of attraction. This is also the case with women (and men, I guess).
[–]Violetta311 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
B is equally true for men and women, so it’s invalid.
A is simply incorrect, unless we are talking about rape. Women want to be seduced.

This is why they say not to get dating advice from women. It's not that they're evil or stupid or anything, just that female attraction is much more complicated than it is for men and women have no real reason to try and understand what they do and don't find attractive.
For most women, it really comes down to "I liked him because I liked him". So how are they supposed to give you advice when women don't like you?
[–]two_goes_there -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Truth, most women do not KNOW what attracts them to a guy, they just know how they FEEL about him. This is what counts.
Some women who are super self aware can articulate what attracts them to a guy, but this is pretty rare. Usually you'll get attempted answers which might sound reasonable, but are not true.
Don't listen to what women say, watch what they DO. You will learn far more by watching what women respond to, than what they think they want.

Actually liked that I was playfully making fun of him the whole night and didn’t get defensive. Great banter all night and about a year later we’re still going strong! Yeeeessss, I second this. Playful teasing is ridiclously fun. One of the most enjoyable dates I went on was going to a board game cafe, and me and my date kept teasing each other about how we were going to kick each others ass. It was nice to feel like equal competition, while getting a few playful nudges in there. I'm instantly more attracted to a guy if he has an over-the-top, fake cockiness to him. (Because I'm the same way. Lol)

That's fascinating. Women are admitting to shit-testing.
I think not all the answers in there are dishonest.
For most of those this-is-exactly-how-you-get-rejected responses, they forgot to add the qualifier that the guys they are talking about are ridiculously physically attractive. They aren't dishonest, they're just a bit callous to the fact that most men are not attractive enough to pull off those behaviors.

Haha, I was going to cross over the same post to this sub after I read it! I think there actually are some nuggets of wisdom which correlate with the seduction theory here:
And that's taught in game. Keep the conversation light, flirty, and emotionally engaging. A downside to that post is that a lot of the women said, "and we're still together!" or "and now he's my husband." These women seem like they were ready to settle into a LTR, so I definitely take their responses with a grain of salt. The women that admitted, "it was the sex" are who a lot of us are looking for as we practice seducing.

I've been binging Dan Bacon for about two weeks now. He has a lot of helpful information and it's actually helped me in my relationships, but I feel like he is intentionally withholding a lot of information because he wants us to buy his audiobooks the Flow and Make Her Love You For Life. For example he gives a broad overview of how to build attraction but he doesn't actually give details because its in his book.

The issues are these:
This colors every answer you will read on that sub.
The amount of questions that arise from every individual answer on that post, and that sub in general, are concerning.
It’s very hard to tell if an answer came from a dime piece or a nice, socially inexperienced land animal.
What women would be worth listening to in this respect?
Probably slutty party girls who are also good wing women. Those are few and far between. And even then, you’re asking her to recall an historical emotion she had where she was in the mood and completely down for the guy?
That’s like studying every way a dice could land imo. It’s also low ROI, fallible, fantasy, and essentially asking prey how they would best be hunted.
I do like perusing that sub on occasion, but you gotta be seriously socially aware of who’s commenting.

This is what they actually mean
[–]xu7 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Nope.
[–]TheLoveGuardian 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes. Being friendly is fine. They don’t not like the men because they are friendly, they don’t like the men because they are boring. “Nice guys” or men that play it safe are boring and not interesting. They are too afraid to take conversational risks and be sexual/seductive. This results in a “friendly” attitude that forces them to only float on the surface of conversation and bonding. They don’t get to know you deeply because they sit comfortably in boring small talk and are too afraid to push the conversation deeper; they think driving the conversation forward is all that matters. Boring men are too nice and are on their toes during the entire date. Interesting men are comfortable, are confident enough to say what they want, have deep conversations, and are not afraid to be sexual and seductive. The women resort to saying that the weak men are “friendly” or “nice”, but what they really mean is the men they are not interested in are not interesting; they are boring and not confident.

[–]Kakkamaki 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Fine. That "Acting autistic" part was a little mean from me. What I meant by that is, that you just need to have a normal getting to know each other conversation in a flirty manner.
