My divorce was final July of 2023. I was married 17 years, together over 20. I’m a dad of a 9 and 12 year old. I know the woman I married is not who I divorced. I do not want her back. I still have occasional days where I am overwhelmed with sadness and I miss my family as it was.

There is no way I could ever allow myself to take her back at this point. I don’t want that. I understand that is a foolish line of thought that would end in more misery. I do not think it is even a possibility.

I truly wish I could completely sever any emotion related to the marriage but every once in a while I have days where I just want to cry. They are fewer and fewer as it goes but today was rough. I had my daughters over for dinner and we played some music and I ended up fighting back tears. I know the marriage is over but the memory of what was is getting to me today.

I just wanted to vent. I couldn’t go back and try again if my ex came begging but the memories of what was and what I assumed would be a lifelong bond rise up on occasion. I know it’s ok to feel sad. I just wish I didn’t. I want to not feel anything for her. She doesn’t deserve any emotion.

I wish I could move completely to cold indifference and not ever grieve. It seems I fluctuate between fuck you, indifference and occasionally I have a day like this, where I just am sad at the loss. It makes me feel ashamed and weak to fall into this reminiscent sadness today. I guess that is how it goes. Anyway, I just needed to say this and I figure some guys on here might get it.
