TLDR with out the added fluff: I feel awful for them, I think that they have been failed horribly but they represent the tip of the spear of a very serious problem, we need to solve this problem soon but the issue is how severe it's gotten.

I've been trying to figure out what is going on with this whole dynamic between men and women for some time now. So far the best conclusion I've come to is this:

Some men have it harder trying to find relationships, the issues start arising from how common it is- like it is now.

No matter what label they have- be it perma-bachelors, incels, mgtow, we're reaching a point where there is a concerning number of single men. I've wondered how many of them would be single had they grown up say forty of fifty years ago. It's not like it was back then, the men that were totally out of luck in my grandmother's time had to quite literally self sabotage themselves into being single or have all the cards *really* stacked against them.

That's not the case these days. A lot of the guys I have seen that have issues with relationships are doing fine financially, most are just normal enough guys that for what ever reason are having a hard time. The incels aren't just this isolated group of out of luck men, they are the tip of the spear for a lot of men really, the rest of the spear is the sort of out of luck average guy that would normally in years past have been married.

I'm concerned for men these days writ large, but this has also massive social implications as well, it's really not a great place for a society to be in widely- young men with really nothing to live for (families) are potentially what can burn down a nation.

My fear is that this is another tension for the developed world in an already tense time and that the solution to this issue could very well be unpleasant. Patriarchy will reassert itself- it's not if but when.

If we’re talking real involuntarily celibate men and boys, who due to various types of misfortune or trauma are unable to maintain relationships, I have sympathy for them. They have a lot to work on, if possible.

I think that they just need someone or a group of people to pull them out of the darkness they live in. I completely understand why they feel that way, but it's harmful for them and the people around them.

But also, not all of them are hateful either. Some of them really don't have any confidence or self-esteem whatsoever and just need someone further along in the path to help them.

I've seen a dude skulking around the dance floor of a party like he wanted to participate but just didn't know how to do it. I encouraged him to just dance and have fun; I even got a girl to dance with him. He was very awkward about it, but she overheard me giving him a pep talk so she understood. I was very proud of him, and I genuinely hope it was impactful long-term for him.

so first of all, I am NEVER a fan of attributing any ehole group of people with anything else than the attribute that makes them part of the group in the first place.

So the only thing that goes for ALL incels is that they are not getting sex/intimacy against theire desire to.

Personally I think it's a sad thing to see. It's absolutely natural for many people to desire this. that they don't have any success with it has reasons and thats not the reason that is sad. what is sad is the way many people in society like to view, attribute and shame incels.

Incels are just people who are socially untalented, awkward or undesireable for any kind of reason. I think incels deserve way more empathie than they get. In fact, that hardly anyone shows empathy for them is the sole reason these people are becoming a Problem in the eyes of many people.

When no one cares about your probelms apart from right leaning people, those right leaning people are the ones having influence on you (not that it is inherently bad to be right leaning, don't get me wrong). So it really shouldnt be a surprise that incels turn to people like tade who guide them to become someone who can deal with that kind of problems.

So what I think of them? they are people like any other and deserve help with theire problems. The dating world is rough and almost all people feel like they deserve better than they are getting or are happily taken already. People really don't know how to properly love anymore, it's just a competetion. My advice to incels? get your priorities straight. figure out what kind of person you are looking for. be realistic. if you don't meet your own standards, either lower them or improve yourself. and be patient. finding the right one can take forever. I wish you all well.

"Incel" has mostly just become a derogatory word for "virgin" and is frequently used disingenuously as an insult against those that openly question and deride unfair and discriminatory advantages that women have over men in law and culture.

But incel forums, like feminist forums and MGTOW forums, can attract some individuals who seem to be obsessed with the opposite sex and want some kind of revenge fantasy on them. That is not healthy at all.

Mostly all the above is just internet brainrot though. Most men and women who are single appear to be single by choice, although there's some big caveats about what's prompting those choices and how much full volition is actually behind those choices given the outside circumstances informing those choices.

Depends, because there are different reasons for that and also extremely different kind of incels, but overall they often are dealing with some serious problems (usually mental illnesses) and in need of help, and I'm not talking about therapy but also, mostly, human compassion and empathy.

I remember as a teenager I wasn't having many sexual experiences and, eventhough most of the problem was in my head and I actually had options, it felt truly awful... couldn't be more unhappy.

I don't blame women and modern dating, though, it's a lot more complicated than that...it involves society as a whole.

Simply put, there are alot of good ones and some bad ones. The bad ones are part of why we can't have nice things as men. My best friend is pretty damn close to incel. It’s self inflicted.

He’s been laid a handful of times before so technically not celibate. But he’s in his 30s and still lives with his parents, has no career (but always has a job tbf). He’s out of shape, immature, and honestly has no idea how to talk to women in a way that’s not fucking creepy. On top of that he’s arrogant as all hell. Does NOT listen to advice on how to improve himself and certainly not advice from me on how to talk to women despite me having no problem doing so.

He’s not a bad looking dude (average or maybe better to the right person) but he blames everything on the fact that he doesn’t make a shit load of money and is short (5’7”).

He has a defeatist mindset and is deeply unconfident.

I've always disliked the lookism/blackpilled side of incel groups.

I know that if you are good looking then dating will be easier - and its stating the obvious.

But we've all walked around our city and seen plenty of non good looking men with wives or a girlfriend. Ugly people fuck all the time (hence ugly kids).

Also, when the incels posted pictures of themselves online (very rarely they did), they were often just normal looking - could have done with being healthier and trying with clothes, but looks wise they were actually fine (and yet called themselves hideous).

I'd actually guess body dysmorphia and autism rates run high in those groups.

So, I’ve thought about this for a while.

And, perhaps this is a bit of mental gymnastics, but stick with me here.

I’ll preface this by saying that I am firmly in the camp of government is a necessary evil that exists for one job and one job only: to protect citizens’ negative natural rights - basic military, basic criminal justice system, basic civil court system, 3 branches, etc. and that’s it. Anything beyond that is a violation of basic human rights. And taxes used beyond that purpose are theft.

BUT so long as we’re gonna have the government do more than that, that means that, by way of other humans being entitled to your tax money to fulfill their needs beyond the basic bare minimum necessary evil of government function, that means that other humans have a right to your labor - your blood, sweat, tears…your body itself.

And if the taxes are used for (they almost always are) fulfilling basic needs as listed in Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, and since sex is a part of tier-1, physiological needs (as are air, food, drink, sleep, warmth, clothing, and shelter), that means that as much as people are entitled to government provisions for food or drink (ebt/food stamps), shelter (project housing), etc, then they’re entitled to sex.

Now, there’s two ways to implement this: we can force citizens, just like we do with taxes, to have sex with those who cannot secure it for themselves, OR we can legalize prostitution and give people government subsidized sex with prostitutes. Personally, if people feel entitled to my body by way of taxes beyond the basic bare minimum necessary evil of government, then I think that same entitlement to someone’s body with regard to sex is more than fair and reasonable 🤷‍♂️

And I care not if the incel is a lady, a guy, or whatever.

I guess I have the rare view here. I have a small social circle and half of them are incels. The ones that “climbed” out had to go through a lot of therapy.

The remaining incels refuse to go to therapy. They also reject any kind of private constructive criticism. No matter how gentle I am, they take any slight judgment as an attack. Their coping mechanism are essentially narcissistic.

If it’s a shared social fault, they think the other is more at fault.
if it’s more their social fault, they think it’s not that bad.
if it’s entirely their social fault, they think they are the victim.

The remaining incels I know have such a massive ego to get any better and improve. Their coping mechanisms have become justification for their behavior unwillingness to get better. Their desire for confidence has become arrogance.

I'm the technical "involuntary celibate" but I'm no "incel" by internet terms. There is zero support for men in long term positions like mine. Having zero friends/romantic interests for 10+ years through my 20s... I mean you do just "get used to it" after 4 or so years, after the "rage phase" so to speak. I barely even had time to have a rage phase.

And now I'm locked into a place in my life where I can never meet anyone ever again due to life circumstances I can't change.

It's a dreary existence. As an 18 year old woman, I'd say its very mixed.

I definitely believe incels deserve way more compassion and sympathy. I also think that the common deflective sentiment of "they just need to stop being incels", "they need to gain confidence" is just people trying to run away from the harsh truth that some men don't meet societies standards and from given statistics, you need to be a far more attractive man to succeed on dating apps etc than in comparison to women. With all these combined along with our technological use and communities breaking down, its no surprise incels exist and anyone who acts shocked a man could even 'fathom' to go on an incel site is plain ignorant.

When I've had a look at incel.is just out of genuine curiosity once the craze and reaction towards incels rose, for the majority I just saw men who are isolated/outcasted. In fact I read some genuinely heart breaking stories from these guys regarding previous suicide attempts, bullying, abuse etc that they've faced. Most of these men haven't had a good upbringing and for a lot of them they barely even knew love in their childhoods, let alone their teenage to adult years where if we are being honest there's that societal expectation and buzz around the inevitable relationship everyone gets. This assumption of a relationship is rapidly on the decline especially for young men (although I think it's declining for women but it seems to be out of choice rather than inability).

When we also take into account the stereotypes of how men should behave with their emotions, it doesn't surprise me that these years of outcast has manifested into anger towards women and society.

On the flip side though, there is an extreme undercurrent of violence that pulses that community. There's a constant talk of r-pe, abuse, murder surrounding women and it is scary to see such a big community of men having these extreme thoughts and feelings.

The extremism and brutality of men is actively encouraged, with Elliot Rodger for example being seen as a hero (granted I think there's a slight sarcasm to lots of these memes). I wouldn't say every incel is going to be a shooter or rapist etc but that doesnt take away that the promotion of this violence isn't okay.

It seems like there's also an encouragement for men new to the incel community to just 'take the blackpill' and whilst I don't want to ignore young men's issues because they too can struggle, it seems like incels commonly want others around them to reach the rock bottom (blackpill) so they have more community. Which is really commonly seen in spaces where lots of mentally ill individuals socialise, whether it be the incel community or a community for EDs on twitter etc. That being said though, young teenage boys are naive and with the constant glorification of violence on those incel sites, I personally don't think it's a good thing to encourage these men to join the incel community as just being young in age, its more likely for them to have less rationale and go out in their community and partake in violence compared to their older counterparts on the incel website.

Don't like em. Hating women isn't acceptable. And nobody is owed sex.

I do believe the word is thrown around too much. But men who are actually incels I don't like.

I also believe that they are a symptom of a society that has little to no empathy for young boys, leading to a small but vocal group of sexually frustrated men with nowhere else to go but toxic forums, unfortunately leading to a toxic self fulfilling prophecy.

The term is thrown around too much, but for the real ones - while I understand why they exist, they are harmful.
