I worked with a lot of military guys. Many got out of crappy towns or family, etc, saw the world, maybe get a college degree, moved on to a career. Some spent 20 years in, got a pension and free medical, moved on to a career. A honorable discharge from the military shows an employer you are trainable, and haven't been a drug addict for the last few years. Both things are often better than you will find in the big cities around here.

It is purposefully designed to appeal to teen boys as a way to escape generational poverty and, for those who live in gang affiliated areas, a way to avoid going to prison like many men around them have.

There’s a reason the military is allowed to sit in a high school cafeteria at lunch time and propagandize to 13-17 year olds every day, because those boys are naïve and susceptible to the pipe dreams recruiters are selling.

Kids that age can’t think that long-term, they can’t really comprehend how a decision at 17 will impact their mental health 10-15 years later. Those kids just want to escape the stressors impacting them right now.

I enlisted at 17. I grew up in extreme poverty with no floors, only was able to get 1 pair of shoes per year, no money and no plan. I am now 30 with a beautiful family, very high dual income household, retirement plans, pension will be immediately collectible at 37 years old forever. And I’ve seen the world, gotten a degree. It’s a path to upper middle class if you play your cards right and get good mentors. At least in the US.

They know that the military is a secure job, and they will get training and education and benefits. They can join, get paid, have no responsibilities beyond what they are ordered to do, and they can slowly learn how the real world actually works, because their parents and our public education system didn't teach them the skills they need to survive.

And when they finish the military, they know they will have the option to go to school under the GI bill, and also command some small degree of respect by being former-military.

It's a safe way out of a scary situation.

As a veteran, I do believe that there are a number of people in the service who wouldn’t be able to cut it in “the real World”. For example in my unit there were several guys that we knew would be flipping burgers or living in their parents basement had it not been for the structure and discipline given in the military. For goodness sakes they put you up in an apartment, pay for your meals, make you get your checkups and appointments, make sure you stay in shape, so on so forth. Fewer than 15% of the military see combat or are assigned to a combat role. Somewhere between 2-17% of miltary members who were in combat get PTSD. This means you will have at an 85% of never being in a combat role and around a 97% chance of not getting PTSD.

People join the military for many reasons. But for many people, the chance to escape the town they grew up in and the lack of oppurtunity they see there for the chance at a better life is a draw. It does allow you to escape from whatever town you are in and start a career.

It's mostly people who come from nothing that find the prospect appealing. It's actually a great way to leverage yourself into the middle/upper class if you can get into a technical field with the military. My friend joined the navy, became a nuclear engineer, finished his term, went to college to learn coding and some other science disciplines, and now he makes $250k annually -- mostly from home.

Military service is prestigious to many people. Look at your pre-amble as evidence. That's another pro for people who are too young to really know better.

Lastly, don't confuse the fact that the west is corrupt and ruled by people who care every bit as little about you as olden day slavers with there being nothing to fight for. You think life in the west is bad now? Roll over for China and let them conquer us. See what life would be like then.

We need people to protect our way of life, such as it is. It could be better. It could always be much worse.

There are a lot of guys who still want to serve the country. Especially ones with humble backgrounds where this country is the reason why they’re living fairly well.

Freedom of speech applies to businesses as well. Not allowing businesses to fire employees for saying something they don’t like would be a violation of the first amendment—Even if it may be morally wrong or absurdly woke. In fact, I absolutely do not promote doing this, but the fact that a law exists to prevent companies from firing people based on race, gender, etc. seems like a borderline violation of the basic rules of capitalism and the free enterprise economy. Those laws, whether intentional or not, control a society’s workforce, which is a characteristic of socialism.

There are some people out there that don’t feel or understand that this treatment towards men is not okay. And for younger boys, mostly 13 and under, how could you blame them? They were born into this:

I joined looking for a job. Turned into me loving what I did in the Marines. After 16.5 yrs I retired early as it was offered as my job had become obsolete. I served on two ships and one tour in Afghanistan. I have PTSD, bouts of depression and terrible anxiety along with some physical issues. I spent 8 weeks inpatient for mental health. Would I trade any of it? Absolutely not. It would be nice to not have those issues but I made great friends and helped great people. When overseas, if we were targets there meant less folks back home would be targets (my belief) and I was fine with that. And we watched our brothers’ and sisters’ backs. Do I condone combat? No. Forcing someone to serve is not ok, but to volunteer is an option and, at least in the US, a chance to lead and build a great life. I did.

And the whole money to risk our lives shit? I can’t hope to help you understand the camaraderie, sense of family, and overall purpose and satisfaction one gets when serving. And if a chick can make money showing her ass, good for her. Don’t be jealous of their easy life. That leads to hate for no good reason.

This is my opinion and from my experiences and beliefs. Others may have different viewpoint.

I know a kid I work with, has just enlisted in the Navy. He is doing this for selfish, mercenary reasons. A lifetime of discounts and benefits. College to be paid for, and he intends to stay long enough to be an officr.

Odds of getting killed or in combat in the Navy are pretty slim. I forgot what he is gonna do, but its technical.

The benefits are nice.

Health care, dental, a 401K, and life insurance policy that’s mostly solid. Pretty easy to change your MOS and most of the technical skills you need for your new job are taught in house and you’re getting paid to learn. Then they’ll help you with college tuition. Lastly your 401K is transferable to your local PD, FBI, Swat, the Post Office, and other government jobs. It’s also easy to get a civilian job with the military after you get out. Private contractor/Private security. Programs like Helmets to hard hats help get veterans an apprenticeship.

The military takes care of its own during and after service. How many other companies can say the same?

Lastly it’s also a great way to get yourself out of a shitty home, swearing in is emancipation for those of a certain age. They’ll also get a judge to waive a warrant for your arrest under certain circumstances.

Because the pay for officers in Canada is pretty good. 5 years in and make 8.4k a month with 25 vacation days a year plus federal holidays and shorts. That money may not go far in Vancouver or Toronto, but unless you're Navy (and stuck in Esquimalt or Halifax), the COL around army bases is usually affordable.

Think about knights they lived like rockstars and the musicians literally begged for scraps. Now musicians live like kings and most enlisted families had to use public assistance last year.

It’s ridiculous. But the job is great and I’m higher up in the pecking order with lots of perks.

But men… BUT MEN… we were all meant to fight, it was how we proved ourselves for all time. It’s how we separated the cowards and the snakes from those we wanted next to us. You can make any argument about the power of modern weapons but the fact is you go face that terrifying situation and you see what’s on the inside.

You mentioned PTSD I think based on “Tribe” that this is a problem because we don’t all fight. It isolates those men.

Very few opportunities to make the kind of money you earn at 17, 18 19 years old out side of the military..and it's not just a job it's a career with health insurance and a retirement...

If you cant afford college your going to end up with some sht job in a warehouse working for federal minimum wage especially if you're from those red states and the south...or in debt waiting for a bail out which is bullshit.

The interesting thing is more women are joining than men and they are doing very well especially amongst certain demographics such as Black women ..

The VA takes pretty good care of injured vets the Veietnam guys had it rough but there's been great strides since then to rite those wrongs and care for vets...

I gurantee 99% of those guys standing on a corner claiming they're homeless vets are full of sht..I've called several out on their BS over the years one actually was a navy vet but he wasn't homeless just scamming and he served on a tugboat in the 80s hardly did any combat..

Another young kid was straight up lying he was in fatigues with a homeless vet sighn asking for a money..he didn't even know basic things every private would know about the military..he couldn't name one base in Iraq or Afghanistan we've been over there 20 years..

The VA system isn't perfect but they definitely just are throwing struggling vets on the street.

As far as PTSD personally I think it's BS but I'm not a shrink I've been shot at shot up had mortars dropped on my position and watched bodies pile up on the morgue my thing is any day that I get home to a cold beer some pizza and pussy with the mission accomplished if I'm lucky is a good day not gonna worry about it but every body handles sht diffrently

I saw a few guys crack mostly the white boys from the burbs but not the country redneck ones from Arkansas and TX with Half their family in the klan and the brothers from the hoods of Philly and Newark or Alabama best dudes to be in a hole engaging the enemy with.

And with that said old age isn't all that great between the arthritis, cancer,strokes, and the countless other ailments it's a slow death prolonged by modern medicine and families that want to keep those checks rolling in I see plenty of old miserable vets some complete vegetables personally I would preffer a glorious death in battle than to rot in a chair.

Many aren't. The Army is about 40k short, Air Force and Navy 7-8k short, The Marines are the only ones that met the recruiting targets. Largely because they have been most resistent to woke ideology. The bulk of the force is largley white, southern males with conservative and/or Christian values. They were essentially told "unless they conform to the woke they weren't wanted and their views wouldn't be tolerated. So they quit coming. The services have realized the gays and trans weren't coming in droves.

I spent 7 years active duty. It's true at the lower pay grades you don't make that much money; however most of the other stuff is taken care of by the military while active duty (medical, dental, housing...especially if you're renting, education etc.) I can't speak for nowadays but people used to learn a lot from being in the military (discipline, integrity, etc). The thing I miss the most was the comradery and genuine friendships.

Freedom, equality, etc is all relative. While it is sad to see these values being eroded in the U.S., I truly believe it is still the freest country in the world and probably between 10th and 15th for equality.

Other reasons include: GI bill benefits, pension, pride, stability, learn valuable skills, opportunity to do something unusual such as jump out of helicopters, desire to rescue people, escape poverty or other home issues

Regardless of your opinion on whether or not Western civilization is worth dying for, or at least giving 4 years of your life to, the fact of the matter is that military service can be an absolute slingshot of economic mobility for anybody with an ounce of hustle and some luck.

My grandparents were Appalachian hillbillies who had to hang sheets over their windows and sleep in the same room in the winter just to have a chance of fighting of the cold.

I'm 26 and a homeowner with $155k/yr income, no debt, and two degrees the military paid for, along with free healthcare for the rest of my life as long as I'm willing to keep putting up with the VA.

The military gave me skills, discipline, experiences, and friendships I wouldn't have otherwise. It also paid me to develop job skills and certifications that will likely keep me gainfully employed for as long as I continue wanting to work.

I regret serving, I was in the US army, it waste of my time and life. I sacrificed so much for an ungrateful country and I’m still fighting against the VA on my disability claims. They have plenty of money to give to illegals immigrants and criminals but will fight tooth and nail to not pay their veterans their disability claims. On top of that I worked 100+ hours a week at my unit, they don’t pay OT and you’re on a flat salary so you make absolutely nothing. They used us as free labor to cut over time costs for DOD civilians. I worked my ass off as a slave.

Plus I got to be a part of one of the greatest fighting forces/organizations available at the time. Had an instant group of like minded friends in late teens early 20's. It was fun, but was done after 4 years to pursue different things.

I did it for the free college and to learn a marketable skill (Computer Science). I tell everyone who will listen, do 4 years, get out, then do the National Guard part time until you retire. Soon as you graduate college, level up from Enlisted to Officer. Being in the military part time will open many opportunities for you throughout your civilian career.

Because they believe it’s the “right thing to do” but in the end they are considered to be disposable utilities as well as cannon fodder. I don’t believe it’s right for men should sign up to fight for a society that demonises and degrades men and masculinity in times of peace and prosperity.

Most importantly, to serve this great nation of the United States of America that allows us the freedom to make such decisions.

So this is me right now i'm about to join the airforce in ~2 months and I am joining because I want to move out at 18, right now we aren't in war (U.S) right now North korea seems weak I mean they can win if they nuke but everyones dead, russia is losing, china is too huge and too big of an army to feed incase of war etc etc, US has the strongest current army aswell so it seems like a safe bet. Many benefits when joining the army, leave in 4 years with about 100K if u dont spend any, Navy Federal (best interest rates) Health insurance, experience/training in whatever job you pick like mechanic, nurse, cook etc, living in the barracks or wherever else will teach you independence, hygiene and many other things.

My son became a Marine because he was that kid who wanted a challenge,loved the outdoors, shooting, martial arts, the culture of toughness. At first he was thinking sniper school. Mom hated that idea! Then after spending a few months with the local recruiter and marines doing exercises and games he decided it wasn’t what he wanted. So he did the large diesel mechanic course. Did his four years, got his mechanics certifications. Now works for a company maintaining their trucks and getting paid $100k+ a year. He wouldn’t have done so well in school, so it worked out for him.

Personally, I got stuck in a rut after I dropped out of college.

Few years later I wasn't progressing on any career path but I was trying to teach myself software development. Found out there were military careers for it so I figured it would be a pretty cushy military job that not only gives me on the job experience and free school, but also almost every basic living need is paid for by the military.

Despite a lot of bs it comes with, I still think it's one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.

Economy and capitalism is fucked up, I totally get your point. Becoming a millionaire by selling your nudes online is baffling to me, but it is what is. I can't do anything about it, except not supporting these online 304s.

I know it sounds odd, but I actually like my job. Maybe it depends on the country where you're serving and I might change my mind when I happen to experience real combat first hand, but right now I think it's an attractive careers for me to become a CO or chief engineer in the future.

I'm not interested in having a family or relationship, especially with the hookup and divorce culture these days. And since I'm in the Navy the probability of having a successful relationship is even lower... So being on my own, joining the Navy and having a job with some kind of a 'purpose' is a bit more attractive to me than just regular office 9-5. No matter the money, in fact I don't really have the time to spend it either.

Of course with my education and degree I could earn more in the civilian life, but for me it's not all about the money. The navy gave me a lot of stability and opportunities since I joined and it's a fulfilling job for me, even though we soldiers don't receive the respect we actually deserve in my country...

The Navy or military in general has a lot of disadvantages not gonna lie and I don't judge anyone who doesn't want to do it. The only thing I strongly believe is equality, if my country gets a draft it should be equal for men and women!

In Finland service is mandatory for men (no pay). I could get excused from it, but I won't. I want to be able to protect this country and all it's people if it comes down to it 👍
