I don't know if this is in opposition to your point, but everything has become pornified. And we can talk about how men go after it but some stuff like ASMR, which I'm an avid listener of, has taken a HUGELY sexual route. Even when I find someone not leaning into their beauty or sexuality, I go to their patreon or own website and turns out their doing more porn ASMR. This is of course something you can apply now to everything. Women don't just play a part by creating the content, but also by engaging (although admittedly a lot less creepy than men) as much as men do. Women are obsessed with women's beauty and sexiness as much as men are, who do you think fuels the popularity of all those horny popstars? Objectification by men is just seen as worse for some obvious reasons, but over-objectification is over-objectification.

It's not that we have to live amongst gooners, it's that we are in a world of goon, everybody playing their part. I used to think, as a more romantic type, that this stuff was kind of tragic because it leads focus away from truly important human things. But I don't really know how this ship can get turned around. Accepting that we should just be horny monkeys in sexual anarchy might not be so bad.

Are you mad because of the backlash around the new Intergalactic game? Is that what this is about? Look, I get that the guys arguing for her to be hotter are annoying, I personally don't give a shit about the game, so any time it pops up on my feed, I roll my eyes.

That being said, it is irritating when a game company/studio/franchise intentionally makes "ugly" or "obviously non-sexualized" characters in a videogame to prove a point. I think that is the point you are missing. Not that the character is ugly (personally I think that is more of a joke), but that the game is being used to push a political or social message down players throats, usually in a way or in an IP that it just doesn't fit into.

This isn't to say that politics can't be in videogames or other forms of media, but rather that it needs to be done tactfully, or at the very least fit the setting of the game. Games like Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect series, even the Halo series has a lot of politics within the game that can be applied to real life scenarios. But it's always done in the context of the game and gives meaning to the plot in the game, not just some random thing thrown into the game just to check a box.

From a financial point of view, the majority of people that play videogames (especially those that are ) are straight white males. This is a fact, not up for debate. Beating that demographic over the head with "ugly" female characters that they cannot relate to in any way is not going to make your game sell better. It just isn't. The top 10 grossing videogames (currently) have literally nothing to do with politics or social issues. #1 is Minecraft. Games like Concord did not literally close a studio because "gooners couldn't jack off to the characters", they fail because the developers forced the politics into a game where it doesn't actually add anything, instead of making the game fun and interesting to play.

I think you are mistaking the issue for 'gooners' wanting hotter characters, when in reality it's more about gamers getting upset at the constant attempts to make videogames a battleground for current social and political issues. A lot of people play videogames or turn to fictional stories/media as a way to escape the current issues with the world, and are sick of people trying to take that away from them.

I’m gonna take the opposite tact you might be expecting annd say actual gooner type who only cares about whether or not he can masturbate to a female character is pretty bad yeah. I’d actually say they’re worse people to talk to than the hardcore feminist type because at least the hardcore feminist type has the ability to talk about other things. I enjoy a good back and forth about the relative merits of a game’s story and design, but I honestly think I have a better chance of doing that with someone who doesn’t actually play videogames than with an actual gooner.

Why would it matter? All women will avoid men who you describe as “gooners” anyway (the reason they are “gooners” in the first place) so what difference does it make?

As for in the gaming world, games should always be trying to appeal to their largest audience the same with any media regardless of what they want and the audience for the type of games being complained about is still almost 70% male and that’s being generous.

mans anatomy is different from a woman's, so a man being prone to high libido and having painful boners through every hormonal cycle (daily) is not about lacking self control for most men who masturbate daily. The problem is alot of women that do criticizes a man's libido see it through their own lens. Testicular contortions and blue balls is very likely to happen when an urge goes too long without relief, especially in the mornings when the males hormonal cycle is at its peak.
