Yeah, I can name 10 delicious spots in my neighborhood that are less expensive and more atmospheric than Applebee's. Those chains are way overpriced for what you get and I'd much rather support small, locally-owned businesses (especially now!)

Also, secret billionaire who hides it by going to Applebee’s? Just no. I hate the food there, I would never go there regardless of budget, it’s awful. Did anyone else see the reddit thread about the super rich guy who hid it and let his girlfriend pay for everything, never contributing even his share, and made her sell her deceased mothers violin to pay for their pets vet bill? That type of dishonesty and heartlessness can not be moved past. If a guy is so worried about being taken advantage of he’s really missing out, but entertaining some big lie for years is not the answer. Sure there are manipulative people everywhere, and that’s why you vet.

To me, the biggest problem is the lack of creativity. Let's say Applebee's is what he can afford, and I'll just throw out that it would cost $40 for food, drinks, and tip on the low side. I know a lot of great places you can go for that amount that are around that amount. You can (well, could pre-pandemic) get cheap tickets to the theater and a post-show donut for that amount. I don't need a guy to blow a ton on me, but making me feel special is nice.

It's a national restaurant chain that gives big servings of food for cheap. They try for a family friendly sports bar kind of atmosphere. The food isn't usually horrible but its not gourmet either. I guess it's a good place if you're a cost conscious family or a group of teenagers but definitely not the place to take an adult woman on a first date.

Have one in Canada and it finally closed down.. pre covid. It so trash, the steak and meat loaf taste like tv dinner. Everything tastes like tv dinner. And food cost about $24 per person.
That place makes me so angry.

Haha and that’s totally fine. My sister and I would go to Perkins (brunch type diner with lots of seniors there because of the discounts) all the time for potato pancakes and hang out. But, now as a 33 year old woman I would not want a guy to take me there for a date.

Applebees is garbage. The funny thing is he could have taken her to a small, interesting restaurant that may even have been cheaper than Applebee's and it would be a good date. It's not the money, it's the lack of thought.
