Literally her entire life is ruined because her man offered to get fit together

The life you must have for this to be your biggest concern...

[–]topspeedj 108 points109 points110 points 11 years ago (44 children) | Copy Link

Fat = lazy. She didn't want to do the work involved, and threw a fit to avoid it.

[–]Mans_Right_To_Choose 95 points96 points97 points 11 years ago (42 children) | Copy Link

I'm fat. Can confirm.

P.S. currently hitting the gym. Fat decreasing. Life improving.

[–]greasy_luigi 47 points48 points49 points 11 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

I weighed a bunch of rocks and put them in bags to use as weights. I got big pretty quick, cost me zero dollars. My excuse for years was that I never had the spare cash to buy a proper weight set. It feels really good to call yourself on your bs.

[–]charlesbukowksi 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

this is actually pretty great. I bet you can get extremely granular in your weight adjustments:

wow 50ish rocks isn't hard? how about 56ish

sandbags/buckets are also pretty good if you have the tech for that.

I got the idea wondering how spartans trained. I really doubt they had cutting-edge weight sets etc. They had to use rocks to bulk up, it just makes sense.

[–]DoctorWelch5 points 11 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

I've always had a decent body, but still pretty skinny. For some stupid reason I worked out only my arms and abs in highschool...so my chest and back were terrible.

Anyway, I recently downloaded You Are Your Own Gym for my phone and just started the program. By simply doing a variation push ups and pull ups I am bigger than I have ever been in my life in only a few months. The driving to the gym or not having money excuse is bull shit. Just do some push ups and you will see ALLL KIIINDS OF GAINSSS.

[–]esco_ 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

sounds great but you will hit a plateau most likely. If you just want fitness its fine, but if you want to get bigger you're goign to need to get progressively harder exercises

[–]DoctorWelch3 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I might, but at that point I'll probably be big enough for my own liking. I mean, elevated one arm push ups are pretty damn hard and I'm not even close to that yet.

Also, I've heard people say you will plateau, but I'm not sure about the science behind that. I mean, as I increase strength I also increase body weight which makes my workouts harder and then I also increase the difficulty of my workouts. In any case, my point is stop making excuses not to work out. Do a variation of body weight exercises and you will get ripped. Maybe not Arnold big or Football player big, but way way way better than if you were doing nothing.

[–]un-affiliated 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your increase in weight is not proportional to your increase in strength. There will definitely be diminishing returns.

That said, you have a while to go and there are still ways to change things up. No reason to worry about it yet.

[–]deepfriedcocaine 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My gym is closed this week.. I might have to check that out.

[–]greasy_luigi 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think I'm at the stage where I need something like that. I browsed a couple pdfs on working out I found on the internet, but I really don't know much about tailoring a specific routine to match my needs yet. I'll look for it in the play store later today.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRed_August 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Only men do this. Only men transcend. There is real beauty in this. There is so much mental pollution that we often forget the obvious glowing beauty of man's ingenuity and perspicacity.

[–]greasy_luigi 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You kind of hit the hammer on the head regarding mental pollution. Life is full of distractions and escapes from reality and it can make an infant out of a man.

I really intended to just lose a bit of weight and gain some strength. What I didn't expect was the massive (and I mean massive) improvement to my self worth and confidence. I know I sound boastful now, but in the real world I'm really quiet about it while noticing hundreds of small changes throughout the day.

[–]fathak 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

holy crap i can't believe i hadn't thought of this. thank you.

[–]sluz 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I was fat... I'm down 100 pounds. I have to disagree with you a bit. IMO - People have this a bit backwards.

People don't necessarily get fat because they're lazy. They become physically lazy because they got fat.

Being fat is exhausting all in it's self. It drains your physical energy. The fatter you get the more of your physical energy it will consume.

I know lots of fat people. Most of them are the hardest working people I've ever met. They're highly productive people who get things done. But they have desk jobs...

This is how I was as well. Hard working and highly productive but physically lethargic.

On the other hand... Losing weight boosts your energy levels. Now that I've lost the weight; I have so much energy that that I'm almost jumpy. I feel the need to lift weights, get out of the house and do physical activities just to burn off my extra energy just so I can relax.

Anyway... Try to not think of yourself as lazy. It's counter productive.

Focus on the weight loss and your physical energy will increase right along with it. Get some momentum and keep it going.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Fellow 100lb loser here. While you are correct, it's still your fault for being fat. I went through a period of self loathing when I started to lose the weight and I think it was necessary

[–]sluz 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Everyone is different... I don't think my weight gain or inability to lose the weight was my fault.

I was skinny most my life and then started gaining weight for no apparent reason when I turned 30.

My diet didn't change at all but I was gaining about 10 or 15 pounds a year.

The conventional wisdom is to eat less, move more and avoid eating fat. So that's exactly what I did. I tried lots of diets but nothing worked.

It turns out that I've become insulin resistant. It's incredibly common and almost never properly diagnosed.

I stumbled upon an article about High-Fat/Low-Carb diets. Everything I had learned about proper nutrition indicated this was an incredibly unhealthy diet.

But I did more research and came to the conclusion it's not unhealthy and worth trying.

IT WORKS! About 80% of the calories I eat come from Fat now.

The weight came right off. My lifestyle is back to normal now.

I don't count calories. I eat as much as I want. I eat whenever I get hungry. I keep eating until I'm full and I don't worry about gaining weight any more.

My cholesterol is way down and I don't need to take medication for that any more. My doctor is amazed with my results and encourages me to stick to this diet.

Bottom line - The sudden weight gain was unexplained. I did what the doctor recommended. I consistently took action and nothing seemed to help.

I fail to see how gaining weight was my fault.

It's something that happened to me. It's not the result of actions I took or didn't take.

Sure... Some people get fat because they're lazy gluttons.

But! - I'm not one of those people.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It fucking works. But I'm getting downvoted to -50 for stating so. I don't understand the anti-keto circlejerk. The science is clear on the issue.

[–]sluz 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah... It's to be expected...

The conventional wisdom is that people get fat because they're lazy gluttons - it's all your fault. You must have some sort of character flaw.

That hasn't been my experience at all!

I wasn't lazy and I didn't eat like a pig.

I've lost the weight and I eat more than ever now. I just don't eat the carbs or sugar and I double-up on the fat.

[–]esco_ 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Meh, anyone can rationalise their situation in life like that.

"its not my fault im fat, my parents started feeding me McDonalds from a young age and we never ate healthy or exercised"

At a certain point, you have to put that shit on a shelf and look at what you could do/have done to be better physically.

You lost weight due to your behaviour, you were fat when you didnt do this behaviour. There may have been significant predisposing/maintaining factors that were outside your control, but it is still under your control.

[–]rpkarma 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I was beaten up (properly) by my dad and psychologically abused by my mother as a kid and teenager (parents hated each other, took it out on me). I have severe depression. I ended up a heroin addict. And I take full responsibility for it, fuck blaming the past, I made those choices. I've been clean for two years (was an addict for 6), and my depression has been in remission for 3. All because I stopped blaming life and started fixing it. Personal responsibility, motherfucker

[–]esco_ 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Its very impressive that you can make a comeback after such a rough start, man.

In your case, it sounds like you had some significant difficulties you had to overcome. Taking a position of "its not my fault" opens one up to a sense of determinism, being resigned to their fate, etc

[–]rpkarma 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. I'm now clean, very successful, and have nothing but opportunity in front of me. My parents even apologised, and I have an okay relationship with them now (although I had to freeze out my mum when they finally divorced, she tried to divorce rape him. I told her if she did that, then I leave her life forever. So, she didn't) years later.

There are a lot of things that are outside our control, but there are even more that are. I decided a number of years ago that taking control of those that I can is far more important than wallowing in misery over shit that I can't.

[–]sluz -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Anyone like yourself can pretend like they know about things which they are totally clueless about.

In fact... The less they know about something the more they tend to think of themselves as Mr. Know-it-all.

But in reality... You're not a doctor and you don't know me. Your uninformed opinions mean nothing. LOL!

[–]esco_ 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're right, im not a doctor and i know nothing about that medical condition. However, I'm training as a clinical psychologist and am completeing my phd in behavioural psychology, so i do know a little bit about what can cause/maintain difficulties. Although, obviously you are a greater expert on your life than anybody else, let alone someone who has just read a post of yours on a forum.

My point wasn't to try and bag you. You were ignorant of what was causing your problem (i don't mean this in a nasty way). There were things you could do to improve your situation, which it sounds like you have done. If you didnt take these steps, you will still be fat and claiming its not your fault, even though right now you are proof that there were steps you could take to rectify the situation

[–]sluz 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok - Got it... Yes... I was ignorant to what was causing my problem but it wasn't from lack of going to the doctor, doing research or trying new things. Etc.

It was pure luck that I stumbled upon a well written article about my current diet.

High-Fat diets are very controversial. I had been previously lead to believe this type of diet was incredibly unhealthy and potentially dangerous.

I started getting fat due to hormone problems that I was unaware of. (I got sick)

It wasn't because I was lazy or because I ate like a pig or because I wasn't following my doctors recommendations, etc, etc, etc.

Now - I'm skinny and my health has improved... But only because I got incredibly lucky.

EDIT: No... I didn't think it wasn't my fault back when I was gaining weight. I was sure the weight gain was due to a set of character flaws like lack of willpower, laziness and stupidity.

I would think to myself... If only I had the willpower to eat even smaller portions and do even more exercise... But no... I'm too week. I'm fat because I haven't been able to do the work required to lose the weight.

Only now do I realize how wrong I was about myself back then.

I wasn't lazy. I didn't eat like a pig. I'm not stupid and I don't lack willpower.

Those traits are and always have been my strengths. Not my weaknesses.

And yet, if her husband was the one who had gained all the weight and she didn't want to fuck him anymore, she would be sexually empowered and independent. That thread would be full of resounding affirmation.

[–]Dude219 40 points41 points42 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Women who gain weight are "beautiful and don't have to change for anyone", but a man who gains weight had better hit the gym and get in shape because it's disgraceful to be overweight, and women are justified in thinking this way. Just don't ever say the same about them.

Fucking double standards.

[–]AngraMainyuu 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Fucking double standards.

No. Fucking hamsters. Gotta start to understand the fact that women don't consider things that make them culpable, they just double down and spin the wheel some more. I know this isn't true of men, because every goddamn one of us here is face-to-face with our (actual) faults and are willing to improve. If as a trusted source, you tell a man that losing weight is gonna make him more attractive to girls, unless he's a total loser, he's gonna brighten up at the mere chance that things could be better in his life. A woman will just feel self conscious, bitch about it, decide its not her fault, and hamster away.

[–]gg_s 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Dude219 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"just" 10lbs. At a calorie deficit of 500kcal per day she needs 70 days to lose that. And of course to gain it she had to eat 35000kcal more than she needed since he saw her the last time. That is really far away from "nothing happened".

As a bodybuilder, I fucking rage when people don't know the difference between weight of shit, subcutaneous water, intramuscular water, muscle, bone, subcutaneous fat, organ fat, and glycogen storage. All these have significant impacts on your scale weight, but only subcutaneous water and fat can change how you look, and really only losing the fat has any meaningful impact that lasts more than just a few days.

Any fat ass can do a keto diet and lose 20lbs in a week, but all they've lost are water and glycogen, and maybe 1lb of fat. You can even cut calcium out of your diet and lose a few pounds of bone and the average idiot would think that he/she's lost fat. That's why there are so many dieting scams and yoyo dieters, because people think losing weight = losing fat.

/rant

[–]blazingcopper 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Keto diet is far more than water. It literally targets fat. It's solely for fast loss. When your body is in ketosis it's feeding off your fat reserves for energy.

[–]juanqunt 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Keto is fine. My point was that with keto, you will get a huge weight loss spike at first, but it's not all truly fat loss. Since you're suddenly dropping carbs, you will lose a lot of water and glycogen weight during your first 2 weeks. While with more balanced macros, you will not get that sudden spike.

It's an illusion that weight loss = fat loss, and that people don't realize that subcutaneous water loss will affect your look just as much as fat when you're lean. I would recommend doing a bit of keto then refeed to peak for a special occasion to get lean, dry, and full; but long term, you don't lose any more fat than with more balanced macros. At the end of the day, sufficient protein and a calorie deficit is what matters. Even if you're eating a lot of carbs and burning them, indirectly you will still burn fat while in a calorie deficit, so the end result is the same.

[–]blazingcopper 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Long term as your body feeds off your fat reserves in ketosis you will experience dramatic fat loss and muscle sparing effects.

[–]juanqunt 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've read a lot into this and my conclusion was that as long as you get in enough protein and healthy fats, it makes no difference whether you're literally in ketosis or not.

Stuff like keto, intermittent fasting, etc all work, but at the end of the day, none of these approaches are particularly magical and all work at roughly the same level of efficiency.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Keto has a huge impact of killing appetite and stabilizing energy level throughout the day despite caloric deficit. Also making fat burning a more direct process metabolically. Those are the reasons it works. The initial rapid weight loss is bullshit and not permanent... However it does look like real weight loss due to loss of water weight.

[–]redpillshadow 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, I weigh myself after every evacuation. And yes I am very good at it and am about 75% accurate at judging the weight to the tenth of a pound.

If your comment was directed at the women behind the post, reply to the OP. If you're replying to someone they're going to naturally assume you're talking to them when you saying something stupid like "fuck outta here".

[+][deleted] -11 points-10 points-9 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Oh he lost weight alright. And if he's like most people, he had to starve himself, lost muscle mass along with some fat, and gained back weight with a vengeance when he stopped counting calories.

I don't have the book with me, but it cites plenty of solid scientific works to that effect.

[–]1Joelasaur 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What about people who go on bulking and cutting cycles? They end up with way more muscle mass by the end of their cut than they started with bulking. And this is just pure caloric deficits/surpluses.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They eat plenty of protein, thus they don't lose muscle mass.

[–]elevul 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, eat less calories than you burn and eat enough protein not to lose muscle. Everything else is optimization.

The point of keto is that your baseline metabolism doesn't go down, and actually goes up. So you end up burning more, just by doing that diet.

Even on Keto. Calories still count. But Insulin also counts, and greatly affects the storage rate of calories.

And Carbs create the largest insulin reactions.

So by lowering calories AND lowering carbs, you are magnifying your calorie reduction.

Keto also has "bonus" weightloss, because it burns off all your water weight. A temporary loss for however long you can keep the diet up. But cool to be able to drop 10 pounds in a week.

[+][deleted] -18 points-17 points-16 points 11 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

The point of keto is that it doesn't put your body into "starvation" mode. IT focuses on food that increases satiety, and as a result you don't need to count calories.

I've lost about 15kg in something like a month and a half. I eat bacon, eggs, nuts, steaks, pork chops and/or cheese along with shitloads of vegetables at every meal. Currently losing over 1kg a week (weighing myself before every training and recording it in the SL5x5 app). I almost never feel hungry, and I eat as much as I feel like.

Shit works. Deal with it.

[–]1CaptainFalconer 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Agreed.

Keto Lowers insulin reducing fat storage, higher leptin/cck making you feel full, more efficient brain powering independent of how much you eat (beta-hydroxybyuterate provides ATP to the brain more efficiently than glucose), which means you will have the mental willpower to stick with it. Adenosine regulation also means better quality sleep, which is also crucial for fat loss and muscle gain. It even lowers intracellular sodium levels in the brain more effectly than medication, which has a strong mood stabilizing effect.

And in a 16,000 peer review journal article meta-analysis, it was shown to be the most effective method for weight loss.

BUT, it doesn't give you a free pass to consume tons of calories.

It's nearly impossible to eat too much proteins calorie-wise.

[–]1CaptainFalconer 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

100 calories of protein takes more to process, resulting in about 70 net calories. But it's still not unlimited.

http://www.precisionnutrition.com/digesting-whole-vs-processed-foods

Also excess protein can turn into carbs via gluconeogenesis.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gluconeogenesis takes energy as well, further lowering the bill.

The point is, it's theoretically possible, but in practice, it takes such a large protein intake that it hardly ever happens.

Are you counting your calories or do you just assume you aren't running a deficit?

[+][deleted] -13 points-12 points-11 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm not counting my calories. I don't know what "running a deficit" means, no do I care. The fact is, I'm losing over 1kg/week. And I feel much better. No hunger, no guilt, no shame, no fatigue. Just fucking results.

The book cites many studies that show that this kind of diet increases your metabolic rate, whereas standard starvation diets decrease it. When you keep the regular starch-heavy diet and reduce caloric intake, your body starts consuming less energy. That's why dieters often feel lethargic. They're not actually running that much of a deficit, because their baseline goes down.

At the same time, I lift, so my muscle mass is increasing, and that consumes proteins and increases metabolism.

[–]redpillshadow 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

So you don't know if you are eating less calories than what your body burns in a day (and thus has to burn down body fat reserves).

Why don't just calculate it and check if keto makes you automatically eat less calories? Why that hate against the simple energy in energy out formula?

Calorie deficits don't make you lose weight.

Which is pretty damn brain dead.

[+][deleted] -8 points-7 points-6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The science is in, trying to get a calorie deficit while keeping a typical western diet doesn't make you lose weight long term. Your body enters starvation mode, your metabolism goes down, you waste mucle mass, and you regain the lost weight as soon as you eat one too many bagels.

Changing your diet can give you a calorie deficit that's sustainable.

So no, calorie deficits (by themselves) aren't enough to lose weight (sustainably, long term).

[+]BeersBoatsBuds -19 points-18 points-17 points 11 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

Why would your body give up one of its most valuable resources that easy? Your body is a little more complicated than calories in/calories out. Obviously you can't eat like a pig and do nothing but sit in front of the computer all day but insulin management is important as well.

EDIT: This thinking has lead to tangible results for me. I really don't understand why questioning calories in/calories out automatically leads to downvotes.

[–]Right_Wing_Elitest 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because if you consume more calories than you burn you will gain weight

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And if your diet is such that it makes your body regulate for weight gain, you will only temporarily lose weight and regain it as soon as your willpower slips.

[–]Moresolater 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Because people eat tons of brown rice/whole wheat pasta thinking they are being healthy because it is a "low GI food" instead they are becoming fat asses by eating an excess of calories. you can lose weight eating the shittiest foods as long as your calories are below maintenance... One professor lost weight eating only twinkies

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whole grains are a scam, they're better than refined grains but they're not good in themselves. They contribute just as much to insulin resistance as the shittiest junk food, and they do not contribute much to satiety.

Simply eating eggs instead of cereals in the morning, no hardcore keto shit, as been strongly correlated with better satiety and automatic lower calorie intakes at subsequent meals.

[–]BeersBoatsBuds 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I completely agree that you can't eat excess calories and expect to loose weight and that you can loose weight eating just about anything in the right quantities.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that telling a fat guy who is trying to loose weight that its as simple as 3 - 4 and he's and idiot for not just trying that doesn't really help him much.

[–]mikevonline1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fat guy in the process of getting better here. It really is as simple as burning more than you eat. I lost 10 kgs in two weeks by adding as few calories as I could manage, didn't matter what exactly.

Meaning if I had cravings for ice cream sandwiches, I ate those motherfuckers, but burnt twice as much kcal on my home trainer.

I'm 6'2". In November of last year i weight in at 256 lbs. Now i weigh 185 lbs. I have always been a lazy fuck and I did that with practically no exercise and with a few months of just eating whatever. Now I do some pull ups and other shit because it's so much easier when I'm 70 lbs lighter. I only lost weight because I stumbled onto /r/keto and started thinking about body chemistry. But ultimately whatever works. Good luck dude.

[–]redpillshadow 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why would your body give up one of its most valuable resources that easy?

Because the body cannot stop to burn energy and that energy has to come from somewhere. So if you do not take enough energy in (calories) the body starts burning the reserves (body fat) cause that is exactly what they are there for. That is exactly the situation why the body stores these reserves in the first place. Now it is burning those reserves. That is not complicated.

[–]BeersBoatsBuds 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Don't you have to deplete all of your glycogen before your body starts to use your fat? And if you have high insulin it's going to be more difficult getting anything out of your fat cells?

I know from experience that it is really fucking easy to loose weight eating high fat/low carb. Eating like that, it's hard to eat more than 1500 calories a day. But I don't put it down to just calories in/calories out because the weight loss is more than that the math predicts. Insulin management is important.

[–]redpillshadow -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, no it shouldn't be. She's on a week and then wont see him for months. She can't lose any demonstrable weight in 3 days, and the entire manner that he said it is report breaking. Think about that week for a second: one hump, ER visit, dude cant look you in the eyes and calls you fat. And all the chick wants is a happy ball slapping good time with the dude, and appears to be actively working to salvage as much of that as possible. I dont think she even disagree's with the premise that she should lose weight, just that the timing, delivery, and content all caused her to feel dramatically unsexy. I love that she seems all 'Why do you do this? We could be fucking right now, idiot! Why arent we fucking?'

Dude pulled a poorly timed stupid that gained nothing, cock-blocked himself, twat-blocked a good friend, and turned a 7 day epic fuckfest into a bundle of awkwards that will paint how she see him until the next vacation, if there is one. What a waste.

On the flip-side the rapport break could very well be what motivates her in a way such as, "I'll show him how much fucking weight I can lose, then I won't fuck him next time."

I agree that's a posibility, but it sounds like rationalization because of how poorly executed a dread game it would be. You want the dread game when she's AWAY, not when she's THERE, so saving it for after or the end of the trip sounds most effective. If it was dread game, he failed by not giving her a way to win; she can't effectively lose weight to appease him in just a couple of days. She needs a way to win in order to be rewarded with his company. He shut her down and closed her out, which obvious would cause her anxiety, and there's no need for that for anything other than severe disappointment. It's leaving her to squirm for no reason, when she's ready and dying to be compliant.

Fact is, I think the guy is feeling guilty because of a side piece he has, and is cracking.

Hard to say, though. If he genuinely found her unattractive, though, and outside his standards... Well, good on him for setting his boundaries and educating her on how to get back into them.

I agree. But I'd have more respect if he successfully got her interested in doing it for him. I think he failed in that aspect. He's throwing away a good toy in the name of standards, which is his right, but it seems wasteful. She seems pretty solid.

Welp, if you're ever looking for a perfect illustration of the differences between male and female thinking, there it is: her reaction isn't about what is, it's about how what he said makes her feel right now. We should start a collection of RP real-world parables like this and add them to the sidebar.

And the Man sayeth to his wife, "Wife, thou hast eaten a few too many chocolate-covered figs and thy womanly shape is hidden under mounds of blubber."

And the Wife sayeth to him, "Husband, how darest thou speak in a fat-shamely manner? Am I not Woman, whose feelz be sacred as the blood of the Savior?"

And the Man sayeth to her, "Wife, thy feelz move me not. Thou shalt have none of my seed in thy woman-parts until thy shape pleaseth me again. Thy mouth shall give me pleasure instead, or I must needs kick thee to the curb."

And the Wife, thus duly chastised, commenced dragging her fat ass to the gym.

Yeah not a hot body, a smile.

That there really drove the point home. She feels like she should be entitled to being seen as attractive, rather than actually becoming attractive.

It's a huge difference between men and women. When a man looks in a mirror, he objectively thinks, "Yeah, I need to hit the gym. I'm not attractive and have too much weight." Where a woman looks in the mirror she thinks, "I feel sexy, and I hope other men feel that way as well"

Men try to problem solve, whereas women try to redefine problem.

[–]esco_ 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Two different approaches to dealing with cognitive dissonance right there.

How do we reduce the mental discomfort caused by seeing oneself out of shape while simultaneously wanting to be attractive? Two different approaches

Men: Actively seek to change the shape (solve the problem itself) Women: Change their cognitions. Read congratulatory magazines, watch Glee, You go girl! I'm a real woman with curves!

I gotta go with her on this one. The message is sound, and I couldn't care less whether she was offended, but she's right that the timing was poor and inconsiderate on his part. What's she going to do about it in the next 72 hours with you and a torn vagina? He gains nothing and loses much by blurting it out with poor consideration. The tone of her post even seems to feel more taken back by the stupidity of the timing than the content, which I agree with. Instead of six dreary months punctuated by a week of vagina-tearing-epic-monkey-sex with him she wants to remember, he's given her a single shag, ER visit, and self confidence issues. It was dumb choice of timing.

[–]1mcdehuevo 18 points19 points20 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My guess is he figured if her vag was so torn up he might not be getting any for the rest of the trip anyway. So might as well point out the elephant in the room that had probably been on his mind since he first saw her. What would be better timing? The last day of the trip? Right after she lands over there? The next time she sends him a selfie? Can you think of a time when she wouldn't have had the same basic reaction?

His big mistake was pussing out and saying he "just wanted a weight-loss partner". He should have held frame.

Either way, we can argue over the specifics of this one case, but my point is that the immediate response is to focus on her now-feelings, ignoring the bigger picture. It's a formula for stagnation.

Man said [X] bothers him.

I know [X] is true, but his saying it out loud hurt my feelings. What do I do?

I know! I'll feel better if I get validation.

I seek out validation from other women and manginas, who tell me he should accept me as I am.

I have a nice little burst of righteous indignation, tell him off, and [X] stays the same.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. This is a marriage, with a woman obviously attracted to him. Kicking to curb isn't the best idea in all probability. And yes, when the woman is super self conscious already, it's impossible to say something that doesn't crack at an already brittle exterior. How would one go about this in a reasonable manner?

[–]Endorsed ContributorTDCRedPill 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hard to say because because I dont trust weight gain is the actual problem. But let's say it was. They have a marriage with like 6 months apart and one week together. So the week together should be entirely start to finish the rapid, squishy, pig sex she can't help but think about and compare any other man to, so help her be as sexual and dirty as she dreams about the rest of the year. That's the general plan.

Let's say he sees her in person and the weight IS actually a problem; not some cranky excuse for other issues, not some ham-handed and weak as fuck dread game, but assume it's the entire problem as it seems some replies here think, all weight based. Then, whatever achieves the goal and keeps the relationship strong is the way to; nail her like you paid for it for the week you're together, give her a reason to give a damn about your attraction by using sexually exactly the way she's been wanting. Anything else takes away the biggest carrot to the relationship; be removing sex as an appealing part of the relationship in the 2% of your life you get to experience it, you're making every other man and cock instantly more tantalizing.

Best, most red pill strategy is the same as the answer to everything else: Lift. Play the dread game when you're actually at risk, not prevent her from her only chance to have you. That's what will make it happen and make everyone happiest. She has a whirlwind happy memory with a hungry man who is improving himself and she's going to do more self improvement as a result. Everybody wins.

Complaining about weight straight out comes across shallow and weak. When there's a tenuous distance between you two, you want the little chit chat time to be upbeat and naughty, the highlight of her day; so the push for self improvement has to be a positive one, and following your lead is the very best. If you complain about it, you're making what should be her happiest time of the day (her all to brief contact with your busy ass) into a bummer, and there are happy cocks around her she could be spending time with instead.

This guy cock blocked himself to take action that won't result in her losing weight and cost him respect. It's his right to do so, IMO, but his methods are suspect.

(I think some folks think I am suggesting you play into a girl's frame, to supplicate when there's a real problem. I'm not. I'm saying if you can understand and predict their reactions, and it's not hard, then you know how to better manage them. I think the consensus is 'Check out how skewed this chick's view is.' I'm saying 'Understand why so you can better manage in the future; don't be your own worst enemy like this guy.

[–]esco_ 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get what you're saying, but i think it skirts around the issue. Essentially, you are improving yourself while hoping she will feel the need to do the same.

The thing is, exercise is hard for a fatty who never does it. It's very easy to hamster away needing to do so (He luuurrrves me, im perfect to him). Telling them that their weight is causing problems gets the issue out there. It becomes something they cant hamster away as easily

You're right that it can come across as shallow, but it depends on your delivery

What women dont realize is 10 lbs of extra fat on a short girl is very noticeable.

[–]Lilcheeks 59 points60 points61 points 11 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Also people using the BMI scale to tell someone they're fine. If you have 0 muscle you can have a "normal" weight and still be look soft and slightly chubby.

[–]Toronomi 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Technically, they are fine. BMI is a scale to indicate health after all, not how attractive they are. The rest is just their own opinion, which obviously can be wrong. :p

[–]Lilcheeks 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fine body weight wise yea. People in there are using the "normal" BMI to reassure her that it shouldn't be an issue for her attractiveness though, mixing the 2 things. It's a common defense for a girl gaining 5-10 pounds of blubber... "well you're still a normal body weight so he should just deal with it".

[–]2alisonstone 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

BMI is the best guess given no other information. If you know more information, things change. For example, most Asian woman are chronically underweight according to the chart because of their genetics. If you make them gain weight, it actually significantly increases their chances of heart disease and diabetes (being "underweight" is healthy for them).

We know that she weighed 10 pounds less, six months ago. Given that the husband just noticed she got fat now, that means that she added 10 pounds to whatever stable state she was at for several years before. That is more telling than the BMI scales.

The biggest concern is the amount of weight gain in such a short time frame. A large man can easily add 10 pounds, but she is a small woman. If she hasn't made significant dietary changes and if she isn't power lifting to gain muscle, she should be concerned about stuff like thyroid problems or other medical issues that might be causing the rapid weight gain. That is a lot of weight in very little time.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's a very naive sort of measurement, hence the large ranges of "healthy" they give you. Better to use your built in, intuitive view of health based in attractiveness; a million plus years of evolution have tuned that better than a single number indicator.

[–]Toronomi 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm not so sure about that. Look at some fashion models and their anorexia; the built in view of health/attractiveness is DEFINITELY wrong there. Attractiveness sways with culture as well... Overall it would be kind of nice if there was an objective way of measuring attractiveness, but it's just not really possible.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where exactly are you finding a lot of men that believe anorexic fashion models to be the pinnacle of attractive female form? Almost nobody really likes the look, and people in fashion insist it's all about the clothes and that the models are essentially just elegant hangers to drape the clothes on.

Attractiveness sways with culture as well

I think the proper way to think of this is "evolves with". Beauty is shown by health and wealth - which starts with wealth of available food, but evolves to wealth of available time in which to work out for glamour rather than functionality.

[–]CyricYourGod 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Cheerleaders are the pinnacle of attractive female form. Most men like toned women who don't look malnourished.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

toned women

Oh that made me cringe, don't ever use the word toned.

[–]juanqunt -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

BMI is a decent health indicator for the general population. At a BMI of 25, even an out of shape girl would just be a bit chubby, not a grotesque hambeast. I'd still call her fat though. However, I do wish that they would take bodyfat and hip to waist ratio into consideration too. Funnily enough, most NFL athletes are overweight, if not obese, but are very fit and look ripped. So for athletes, BMI is terrible, but for average sedentary population, it's not too bad.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

On the flip side you can be morbidly obese by BMI and have less than 20% body fat. That was me from Junior year of high school on. Muscle weighs far more than fat. My ideal weight for my height is 155lbs, I'm 100lbs heavier than that and the lowest I can get is 220. Well the lowest I could get last time I cut was 220. You don't see ribs and muscle definition on someone who is morbidly obese.

Like you said, someone can be fat and OK by BMI if they have shit for muscle. Just because they have a high BMI doesn't mean its muscle though, most people aren't muscle bound short guys like me.

[–]Lilcheeks 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No doubt. I'm overweight by BMI standards and probably in the 13-14% range, well aware of how it works. Fucking doctor told me I needed to lose weight lol.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In the military I never made weigh ins, always getting sent to get taped, or the calipers back in the 80s. Had one nutritionist tell me we needed to get me off the fried/fast foods, sugary drinks, and limit sweets and whatnot. Then she did labs and discovered I didn't have any of the signs in was eating that crap and asked me why. I don't eat like that, I eat quite healthy, no fried shit, never fast food, and mostly water and coffee, I said.

The fucked up thing is all my mass came from the first gulf war, they worked me almost to death for fifteen months. I packed on lean mass from the work, and then they wanted to penalize me for it. They did it to me, and punished me. A recurring theme that also happened with my finances during my first divorce. I am fucking huge for no taller than I am, and at 220 I am ripped with nearly a six pack, but I can't function with a limited caloric intake it takes to get there. I usually stay between 230 and 260, which on nearly anyone else who is 5'8" is disgusting fat blob territory.

[–]Lilcheeks 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yea 5'8" 220 is pretty fucking big esp if shredded.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

52" chest, 22" arms, 28" thighs, 21" neck, 36" waist bit I have to wear 38-40 to fit my legs. Honestly it sucks having this much mass. Can't scratch my back, won't fit under cars on jackstands, I look fat if I'm over 19% bf or wearing winter clothes. Most jeans don't fit for shit, button downs need to be tailored, and suits are worse unless I go to Korea for them. I look like shit in a suit, even worse in what most guys wear to clubs, so its black t shirts and cargo/carpenter pants, and sometimes jeans if they fit and don't slide down.

I look like a silver back gorilla, and most women don't dig it. Some do though, and guess who I fuck.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

BMI is pretty good for women, seeing as they are much less likely to have enough muscle mass to throw off the chart, unlike the majority of men do.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, it fits women better. Not a lot of them can bench 350-450 like some morbidly obese men.

[–]puaSenator 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a cycle most anorexics hit. Once the body becomes catabolic, it starts trying to preserve fat stores and instead starts burning off muscle to lower the maintenance cost.

So you can have a chick that's 5'4" and 100 pounds, but she'll look in the mirror and still see fat, so she keeps refusing to eat, yet there always remains noticeable fat. This is because her body is trying to save fat for what it thinks is a famine. If you really want to get fit, you MUST work out and focus on your muscles, while you lower your BF.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not only that, it was all fat. She wasn't working out and its long term so we can be sure its not muscle and water. Google ten pounds of fat and add it to a girl that size. Adding 8.33% fat to her frame really would show

[–]juanqunt 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Finally someone else who understands what weight/fat means. For a girl, 20% body fat is fit and attractive, 28% is a bit chubby. She didn't sound fit to start with, probably already like 25% averagish, and got to a disgusting 33%.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes. I'm 6'5" and 10lbs extra anything is noticeable.

[–]3 Endorsed ContributorF9R 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]poppyseas 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What women dont realize

Why would women not realize this? You think women are generally not body conscious? As a short girl I have a very real understanding of how 10lbs +/- would effect my size... Additionally if the gender roles were reversed in the scenario that OP OP described, I assume the reactions would be similar. I view this scenario as personality based and not gender based.

[–]TheSKSpecial 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Additionally if the gender roles were reversed in the scenario that OP OP described, I assume the reactions would be similar.

Outside of TRP, it really wouldn't be. If OP was a guy whose wife wanted him to lose weight, the consensus response at every other subreddit would be "you better lose weight if you want to keep her." They wouldn't feed him any bullshit about "you're still handsome, she should love you just the way you are", "she's just shallow for wanting a skinnier man", or try to make him feel better about what she said.

She's looking for something to make her feel better, not to actually solve the problem.

[–]Fzed600 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women are collectively body ignorant and hypocritical. They expect men to still love them for them when they let themselves go. When a man lets himself go, his partner will either cheat, divorce rape, or restrict.

My ex bugged me to lose some weight. I asked her to come for walks with me after dinner, or to come on bike rides with me on the weekends. She refused multiple times. Usually saying something along the lines of "you have to do this because you want to, and I'm not going to be your motivational crutch". So I didn't go for walks after dinner. Ultimately, she broke up with me "because she wasn't happy" and "You're boring". I definitely needed to be more assertive about not vegging out in front of the computer, and requiring her to come for a walk with me. Heck, maybe I should have gone for walks anyway and try to meet pretty girls on the way! Let her know that she needs to come with me, if only to fend off other female attention! haha.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I enjoy how we tend to go about justifying why we don't like excess fat on a woman here. The reasons you list are sound, and perhaps from an evolutionary psychology point of view they are the foundations of the revulsion, but I sometimes prefer simply to say "It is not attractive to me. The end."

Now, just to play Devil's Advocate to myself here, I can see how their 'social science' view of reality (as opposed to 'science science' which looks to behavioural biology instead of purely social reasons for human behaviours) could latch on to my visceral rejection of excess fat, my admission that it is a boner-killer, and claim that there are deep reasons for this that have their foundations in social training and cultural pressure rather than sound and logical reasons such as the ones you mention. I'm pretty sure that's what they believe, anyway. It's very sad that they are wrong and will not achieve any results beyond frustrating themselves and others.

[–]esco_ 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"its not attractive to me"... THATS just social conditioning doe!

Sometimes its nice to be able to expand on why it might be attractive to you (evolutionary biology is hard to argue with)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's exactly it. There's an iceberg of reasons under the surface and we use our intellects to understand them... but for many, they will only see the bit at the surface, and interpret the reasons to be things they are not.

I've listened to a lot of arguments against evolutionary biology, some of them very well thought out. A well thought out argument is not necessarily correct though. I've heard many well thought out arguments for or against a lot of things that were either wrong due to problematic premises or because they were straw-manning the target of their argument (often without knowing they were doing it).

I've not heard very many persuasive arguments against evolutionary biology, not even the carefully set up (she took weeks of lectures about evolution before turning her eyes toward 'EvoPsych' and it's alleged 'just so' stories) ones that my vocally feminist Philosophy of Biology professor tried to sell me. Almost all arguments against it try to somehow separate psychology from biology (top lol to that!) so as to claim that evolutionary biology does not spill over into the behaviour of humans. Even though it of course does so with other animals. We are just too complex, ect. WE are somehow magickally exempt from the forces that shape the behaviours of our fellow creatures. Why? They either take it to be self-evident or discredit evidence that we are really just one more animal. I think it stems from a deep inner yearning for God to be real, but that's just a personal theory.

They think it's easy to argue with anything that looks like evolutionary psychology, sociobiology, human ethology... but their arguments are often pretty smug and dismissing and ultimately boil down to "It's not real because it's not real." Meanwhile the actual scientists are going "The evidence really does support it..." Response: "Evidence isn't proof! Spurious correlations! Science is biased! Science cannot tell us what it is to be human!" Et cetera, ad naseum.

So yeah, you are right. And as you said, why it might be attractive, not why it is or must be... because we know it's a complex thing that many factors affect.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

More proof that women cannot take criticism, ever. Even the most well-intentioned, carefully crafted criticism causes a woman's brain to shut down and the feelings-monster to raise its ugly head.

In her defense though, she doesn't strike me as being all that fat, for a white girl, but the fact that she's getting heavier is probably causing concern for the husband.

[–]ilovesooshi 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My ex, even before we were dating, would explicitly tell me that she HATES being criticized. Emphasis on hate. Even to the blue pill me I found it strange because I always believed that criticism and even being put down is essential in order to improve oneself. So I ask her, "What if it's constructive critism." To which she replied, "No i hate that just as much." And so I, the blue pill me, tried to appeal to her reason (which I now know was stupid) and went on a lengthy explanation on why criticism is important. And guess what she says to that? "No it makes me feel bad." That should have been a red flag for me but I proceeded to date her since I was young at the time and not experienced with women. I've learned alot since then and now shes my ex

[–]TRP VanguardtrpSenator 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I literally broke up with a chick over this. I was flabbergasted over how poorly she took my friendly advice. She wasn't even fat, but could lose 10 pounds if she wanted to go from an 8 to a 9, and all I was trying to do was point out how easy it would be to lose 10, and how much hotter she'd be.

She literally flipped shit and took it as me essentially saying she's unable to every be sexually attractive. I dunno, bitches be cray.

Though, I think I dodged a bullet on that one because her mom was a heffer and that alone is enough to make me worry.

[–]imhighnotdumb 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

According to height/weight chart, that weight is not overweight for your height, unless you're fudging your real height or weight. Do you know how much you used to weigh?

Yeah, cause he hasn't got the right to find you less attractive unless you're officially overweight.

[–]DrakeSaint 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I feel like there's more to this story anyway. Hearing his side would be informative. For example, they are married, have been together for seven years (seven year itch, anyone?), married three. She decides to go away to a foreign country to teach English. For a year. She wants to spend most of a year away from her husband except for a couple of short trips back and all for a shitty paycheque (great for a recent grad but hardly worth the stress of being away from your life partner for such an extended period of time). Or is it the 'experience' she wants? That raises a small red flag for me as well.

If it's the experience she wants, this is similar to wanting to 'find herself.' Need I say more? I cannot imagine trusting a Western woman not to stray on such a timescale without reinforcement - knowing that there are no consequences, no enforcement of cultural values because we in the West have tossed most of those out the window and forgotten to replace them with new ones. Now that she's upset with him, it is even more likely.

From the very beginning it struck me as suspicious that she would choose to be away from him for so long. I'm not saying she is consciously craving new mating opportunities. Maybe he is the one who wants a longer leash, and that is why he agreed to it. Either way it just makes my thumbs prick.

If I imagine his point of view, he was getting tired of the relationship so agreed to this. In his mind it might even be a trial separation, though he probably knows better than to say it. There were some things he didn't like, he felt stuck with them (married, not dating), he wanted to find out if life without them is better. Maybe she was already gaining weight - she didn't say that it had increased, just that he had said something about it.

So he goes without sex for a while and he goes to see her and he finds his revulsion at the flab is lessened because horny and he remembers all the things he likes about her et cetera. By the time she visits him, things have changed with him, and he tries really hard (vagina-tearing hard, apparently), but nothing has changed. She was in Asia, eating Asian food, not the SAD (standard American diet), not the sugary sauces and over-abundant carbs and snack food in every cupboard - he probably hoped she would have dropped some weight by now. After all, obesity is lower there for a reason, and that reason is not genetics.

So perhaps he was disappointed and had reached his limit. Either way, being willing to separate to that extent makes me wonder if at least one of them was seeing as a trial separation in any event.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She probably doesn't exercise. That alone could explain gaining 10 lbs in a half year period. And I agree. I wouldn't stay with a woman who went abroad without me for any length of time. Not worth it.

Men don't like this sub because they don't want to put in the effort that it takes to become high value. It's hard work and takes dedication. People don't like to hear about other people betting themselves because it reminds them that they aren't doing that as well. Subconscious jealousy.

Women don't like this sub because it's helping men get out of the grips of their control and teaching men to kick women off the throne they have become well accustomed to. I also think because social roles are no longer clearly defined women now think they have to act like the man; they don't want to admit that they deep down inside we are submissive by nature and are attracted to alpha males.

And then there is the Law of Belief. People don't allow in apposing info that is inconsistent with their beliefs. They can't see that this sub is helping men become better people for themselves. They have the selective perception that is sub only exists to work against women by teaching men ways to wrongly manipulate them. No amount of success stories will change the hive mind.

People in that thread should not be using BMI to tell her that she is fine. BMI is an attempt at a best guess at your health given no other information. But we have additional information. She weighed 10 pounds less just 6 months ago. And unless she started doing power lifting to add on muscle, she added 10 pounds of fat. Just because she is still in the healthy BMI range for the "average white woman" body type (we do not know if she is white, and we do not know what body type she actually has), that doesn't mean she is actually healthy.

What is more concerning is the rapid weight gain. Just go to any doctor and ask them if it is healthy for a small woman to unexpectedly (i.e. you are not intentionally lifting and eating more) gain 10 pounds in such a short time span. Her diet must have turned to complete shit, like the "Freshman 15" that college students put on when they only eat pizza and burgers for every meal. She is on pace to exceed that with her +10 pounds in 6 months. Either her diet has become really bad or she developed a medical condition like a thyroid problem. If the OP believes she didn't significantly change her diet, she should get to the doctor's office soon.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thyroid still can't defy the laws of physics. Her problem is empty calories like all fat people. Or sedentary lifestyle.

Pointing out that she is only XX pounds and XX height is hiding the truth and she knows it.

My recent ex tried this... she gained weight during our relationship and was a shorter girl. I let her know that I was less attracted to her because of her weight gain, and that is was going to cause problems. She tried to pull the "I weighed myself, im only 55 kg". Yes, but you are constantly buying flattering clothing (read - ponchos) and hiding your gut from me when getting dressed.

There was an excess 5-10 kg and the majority of this was around her waist/gut.

Dat hamster doe. Didnt help that whenever she brought up the gym to her female friends, they would say "But you're tiny!". Bitches knew she was going pear-shaped (literally and figuratively) and didnt want her climbing out of the bucket.

maybe I'm alone here, but I find (well proportioned) slightly thick girls to be more attractive than skinny or even fit girls.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I agree completely. I love curves and am willing to trade a little squish in the stomach for the curves.

[–]Dreamtrain 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

if by curves you mean large tits, thin waist and broad hips/big ass then omg yes, though this is more genetic

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well those are pretty hard to find. Often have to trade in some squish on the stomach for T&A plus hips.

[–]Planner_Hammish 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately "curves" or "curvy" is a cute way for fat woman to feel empowered about being shaped like an apple but have big tits and "powerful" legs.

In other words, the curves are convex instead of concave.

As fucked as it may sound I actually prefer the skinnyfat chicks. 98 lbs and zero muscle tone? Sign me up.

[–]feralkatz 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wow, you like infertile women, huh? You're like a evolutionary psychology anomaly, sort of like a homosexual. Cool.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If smashin petite chicks with soft bodies makes me a homosexual then sign me up.

I love thinking about how hard I have to work to get ripped. It inspires me, because I know the end result is far better than I could imagine. Women take things for exactly what they are upfront. As a guy I have always find myself looking for the deeper meaning in something like hitting the gym. Most likely the guy didn't even think his wife was that bad, but he saw the direction and wanted to change it. WHAT A TERRIBLE GUY FOR THINKING ABOUT THEIR FUTURE.

I have made it a part of my life to be in shape and while I am not where I want to be, I'm happy with where I am. Women are just never happy with where hey are, because they don't accept the reality of where they are. They'll also never be happy because they do the work to change it on their own, they look to us to find the right way to motivate them to do it.

"WAAH I don't want to spend 45 minutes a day working out! That's like an entire episode of the bachelorette."

This same concept of gaining weight goes for guys. It's much easier to hold onto girls if you are getting in shape more and more every day. They get more and more afraid of losing you, so they hold on tighter and try to throw the "don't get too big" or "I like guys who aren't super muscly" and it's BS. They've never had a guy with that type of body and are afraid if you get in shape they will lose you.

False. If a girl gains a significant amount of fat then she will become less attractive to men. I find athletic girls with muscle to be incredibly attractive.

[–]cooltrip 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not necessarily. Period.

I would fuck every woman in the world if I could.

[–]Mensphysique12 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It sickens me how delusional women can be when they are told the truth, they got fat. Fat acceptance is hilarious, when my ex ever put weight on or when I did we would tell each other, we didn't pretend we were skinny...that is being silly. I will always tell future girlfriends if they are putting on weight, no excuse to be lazy about your health.

[–]Petrarch1603 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Haha, she's living in asia and she's feeling fat because of all the hot skinny girls there.

10 extra lbs on a girl that height would be easily noticeable. I bet if she had spent that time working out and ended up losing a few pounds, she'd be livid if he hadn't noticed a change in her body.

Delving into women's thought processes makes me feel like my brain is melting.

Comma, unless the dude prefers fat chicks, period. With that said, much like rhombuses and squares, every bbw is a fat chic, but not every fat chic is a bbw.

Even her question is phrased in a way to pass blame:

"Feeling unattractive to my husband, how to make the most of things? "

As if the husband just snapped one day and viewed her differently

[–]1AlienSunrise 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She says she would rather he waited until she was about to leave to tell her. But you know damn well she would've ran to reddit saying " I can't believe he said that right before I left. Now I'm fat and he's gonna cheat while I'm gone." They will find anything to complain about. That's life.

[–]dhump 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When I was fat and married years ago, I made the choice to get in shape. This was maybe 2-3 years into the marriage. In high school, we were both fairly fit, I played soccer and she was in aerobics classes every semester. I ballooned from 200 to 250, she from 150 to 220 (wtf). After I made the decision, started eating right, and working out, she naturally lost some weight by virtue of not being able to eat like a fat slob all the time because I wasn't.

I could never get her to work out, ever. If I ever brought it up, I was "criticizing her weight"and her token defense was "I'm comfortable with who I am" (yeah, right). Of course I was. Fucks sake, woman, you're 26 and on hypertension medication. This was the beginning of the end of our marriage (thank God, in retrospect).

Fast forward to present day, she's marrying this fat neckbeard omega we've both known for years, and back to certifiable land whale status.

Edit: The funniest shit during this time was her fat friends constantly telling me I was too skinny. It got annoying to the point I just started firing back "no, your size has just skewed your perception.", or any variable response along those lines.

This is a mind blowing blue pill example of female thinking: how to not solve the real problem, but how to feel better while ignoring the problem.

She didn't even question the problem on merit. If a man got such a suggestion, the first instinct would be to check whether it is true or false. If it's true, then it's my fault and one needs to look for solutions how to solve it. If it's false, then there is nothing to worry about and the person saying it is just wrong on facts and that's it.

I can not imagine a man asking how to feel better while being fat...

[–]juanqunt 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What a dumb kunt. I make it clear as day on the first date that I don't date girls who don't fit my fitness lifestyle. If you don't look like a fitness model, then you don't deserve a guy who looks like a fitness model. The husband already volunteered himself to lose weight... I thought feminism was supposed to be about "equality" LOL. Jokes on her when her husband gets ripped and leaves her for a fit girl.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If a man is attracted to a beautiful woman nobody seems to mind, it's just normal. However if he denies a woman he's not attracted to, then he's a pig. Funny how that works. It's okay if it reinforces a female ego, but is unacceptable to skip unattractive people.

[–]MrRIP -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the story is full of bullshit. Either she's not 129 or her husband is a flaming phaggot. I need truth. 5'4 129 is fat in nobody's world.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I donno, man. 5'4 is pretty short. If she has no muscle, and unfortunate genetics, that extra weight could definitely be showing up in the wrong places.

Feed the land whales to the omega males!

[–]snakelovermoraga -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your title is simply not explicitly true. Tell me you've never looked at a woman and not been attracted to her because she was too skinny. More often than not, gaining weight makes women less attractive, but saying always in that regard is simply not true.

[–]questionull -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How do I get back into the happy-to-see-you-let's-fuck mindset?

By agreeing with your husband, having the courage to obey him, and honouring the privacy and sanctity of your marriage by not discussing it with other people.

[+]ktappe -12 points-11 points-10 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

People: If you gain weight, you will become less attractive to the opposite sex. Period.

FTFY. I know we're in here to talk about how to deal with women, but there's little need to go out of your way to be sexist. All you do is make TRP'ers look like jackasses when you do this.

If the entire sub is about women, why would anybody give a fuck if men become less attractive aswell?
