I always laugh a little when I hear women say things like they will consider getting a family only after they go through years schooling and "establishing their careers"... never taking infertility into account.

Feminism has really convinced most of these women that they can have it all

  1. Enter college
  2. Amass thousands of dollars in debt
  3. Ride the cock carousel
  4. Graduate with fluff degree and "push boundaries" for ten years (would you like grande or venti sized?)
  5. Where have all the good men gone, grrls?

[–]4nn1h1l4tor 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No need to get pregnant at 25. infertility is not the issue there.

[–]hashtagpound2point2 26 points27 points28 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I didn't know there was a light side to feminism. Then again, I am a man.

[–]vaker 22 points23 points24 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women presumably consider the side which gives them all kinds of advantages the light one.

[–]colovick[🍰] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The light side is the carousel you get to be a part of

[–]gmflag 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's funny you say that. Several of my attendings in the wards who are female have said they once were staunch Feminists. They thought "they were womyn." Once They got to the wards in medical school, they quickly realized reality was different especially in the high stress situations of the emergency room and operating room.

[–]FallenAngel17 73 points74 points75 points 12 years ago (49 children) | Copy Link

This comment sums it up perfectly:

Women proving their irrational natures with contradictory expectations that the majority of them seem all too oblivious to. They don't want men having all the power but they all want families with men with more power than them. Its an unworkable dichotomy and allowing this craziness to continue spells nothing but disaster for society. Seeing as women won't mate with men lower status than them they need to get their heads out of the clouds and realize that reaching the boardroom drastically reduces their marital options, and no, not every woman can marry the ceo.

[–]1deptii 29 points30 points31 points 12 years ago (48 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, they're digging their own grave and don't even know it.

[–]foooow 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (47 children) | Copy Link

They've been digging America's grave ever since idiots gave them the right to vote.

I can't really argue against their involvement in America's decline but I strongly think they should be allowed to vote and I hope you do too.

Prohibition, was the first major "female backed" policy in the US.

It was one of the worst things to ever happen to the country.

[–]charlie_gillespie 18 points19 points20 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Hindsight 20/20.

Prohibition doesn't seem like a bad idea until you try it.

Tons of people today think it works.

[–]colovick[🍰] 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But we don't only know about today, we have 5000 years of written history and reflection on human behavior to make logical decisions... People ignoring that for the feels should be their problem, not everyone else's...

[–]charlie_gillespie 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My point is that even with experience people still trust prohibition.

The people who initially acted prohibition didn't even have that.

[–]colovick[🍰] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, people have this strange obsession with remaining uninformed and being adamant in their positions regardless of what information is provided

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Any time you ban something you do not remove it from the Earth; you simply create a black market for it. We've had a "war on drugs" in this country for the past 40 years, and our prisons are packed with non-violent drug users. For every ounce of weed the cops pull off the street, 5 more ounces take it's place.

[–]charlie_gillespie 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Uh, OK, but you are just agreeing with me in a way that is irrelevant to the discussion.

[–]AmazonExplorer-1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Technically it did work. The aim was to reduce alcohol consumption and it did so by 80%. Festering mob culture was a nasty side-effect of a successful policy.

That's not a good comparable metaphor. More like the patient removed 80% of the tumor, but got influenza.

[–]DarthRoach 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And almost died, whereas the tumor was not dangerous at all - slightly irritating but not progressing.

[–]MartialWay 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

80% of tumor removed, along with most of patients left arm. Tumor found to be benign.

No, I don't think they should be allowed to vote. Frankly, I don't think a lot of males should be allowed either but women have a terrible track record when it comes to voting- they don't seem to grasp the concept of liberty from government oppression and always vote in favor of bigger government. Just look at how many women vote in favor of the candidates that promise to get employers to pay for their contraception.. wtf is that about? The concept of personal responsibility is foreign to them.

I think we need to enact an IQ test of sorts before people are allowed to vote.

[–]colovick[🍰] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

That's why the original setup was to only allow land owners to vote... If you don't have skin in the game, you shouldn't be playing. People often extend this concept to saying it's sexist or racist because of how things were back then. It very easily could be setup again and not be sexist or racist by design... You'd have people calling fowl when housing prices shoot up from rich people buying up all the land they can, but that's an issue that resolves itself pretty easily

[–]DarthRoach 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The issue with some social class having all the political power is that this class tends to isolate itself and become hereditary. I'd rather have women and poor idiots vote than letting the more economically advantaged hae exclusive say in how things are run. If the state doesn't represent you, you owe no fucking obligation to that state.

[–]colovick[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I would argue that it has never been easier to rise socioeconomically and that the goal of the nation should always be improving living situations, protecting from threats external and internal, and promoting creativity and growth. Not necessarily in that order. If they promote those things, then growth and security can be assured for all

[–]DarthRoach 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well yes, but any social strata, when faced with being in an exclusive, dominant position, will primarily look toward keeping its position. See how it developed in ancient Rome - it started off as a tribal community, which was reforged into a landowner democracy. As time went on, some of the more fortunate landowners managed to secure a better position and have almost exclusive control of politics, establishing an almost impenetrable caste of Patricians, which had only one goal - keeping the rest of the population down. The Empire and subsequent barbarian invasions, during which the Roman officer and tribal warrior classes took over this position, exacerbated the issue, and feudalism emerged. Then we got a class of increasingly useless aristocracy ruling over the also stratified majority; the latter had barely any chances of making it up in life, leading to considerable stagnation in Europe.

Societies are the most productive when individuals can use their ambition to both move upward socially and be beneficial to society. A system where any class has the means to seal this upward movement off in favor of simply passing privilege down is a retardant for progress, and a catalyst for exploitation.

[–]1Joelasaur 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What about people who don't own land because of poverty, but would like to? They don't get a voice on their fate? Who will speak for them?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

ofcourse they'll vote for bigger government. They're not the ones who'll be spilling their blood to take back those freedoms once they're lost

[–]1Joelasaur 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I am not a woman and yet I like to vote for "bigger government". I'm more of a socialist, which I suppose makes me a bit of a rarity in this subreddit. Any politics other than gender politics is valid debate from either gender.

[–]foooow 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Have you ever asked yourself why you vote that way when that's the exact opposite of what the founding fathers of this country wanted?

Do you understand that you are destroying the ideals, the philosophy that made this country great? Big governments are the reasons why the pilgrims left Europe, it's also the reason why the revolutionary war was fought.

Why do you do this? Do you not have respect for the dead or your ancestors?

[–]1Joelasaur 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

All I'm arguing is that it's a valid opinion to have, as much as you may disagree with it. I respect and value your voice, but saying that a whole demographic of people shouldn't vote because of it is anti democracy and against the same ancestors you're pointing in my direction.

[–]foooow 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

it is anti democracy and against the same ancestors you're pointing in my direction.

When they enacted "democracy" in America, they specifically refused women and non land-owning males from voting. Agreeing with this isn't "anti-democracy", unless we pervert the original meaning of democracy and what the founders of this country wanted.

At the same time, I know that the concept of 'America' died when Europeans fell below 90% of the population so thinking that the ideals of the founders should be upheld today will never work since my country is now being filled and destroyed with the massive influx of 3rd and 4th worlders (as well as European traitors who allow it to happen).

You can vote for a bigger government, the same way women do. The rest of us need to take note and to make sure that once America falls and we rebuild a new society, a new nation, we never let that happen again.

[–]1Joelasaur 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The crux of the argument here is that you are a rigid constitutionalist, while I believe there is a balance between adhering to the constitution and interpreting it as time changes.

I believe all people should have a voice, and that is what a democracy is about. I can deal with adhering to the fathers, but seriously cut the bullshit. We both know that by "non land-owning male" you mean black people, as that is what it would mean in that time period. Or were you about to say "niggers" and caught yourself?

You are a bigot and close minded, and yet I take your argument for rigid constitutionalism seriously. This is all that I mean. It doesn't matter what either of us believe on this issue, the only thing that matters is we are both free to express and vote on it.

It's very tempting to say, "fuck those women. They're not my problem."

Except that, this affects us too. The educational system is categorically fucking over males. As a result, an entire generation of men will have a lower SMV, while the women stay the same or even elevate. This is really frickin' bad, because it foreshadows the breakdown of the family.

It's a chain reaction:

  • Many of those "excess" college women will marry a guy with less education.
  • Many of those women will become dissatisfied and divorce their men.
  • Those men will be divorce-raped of existing assets, and enslaved of their future assets.
  • Those men, burdened with emotional and financial problems, will reduce their economic output. Some men will be jailed for missing support payments, and stop contributing anything.
  • Say there are two million extra divorces. Where before there were two million households, now there are four million: this is massively less efficient and wasteful.
  • More children will be raised without a man, perpetuating the cycle.

It's important to remember what happens in a divorce-rape. Lots of wealth is transferred to the woman. BUT! A substantial amount of it is simply lost. Lost on lawyers, lost on the doubling of househould bills, and lost on travel money and time for dad to see the kids.

This may not seem like a big deal -- but it is. More divorces means our economy is weaker. Take the financial/emotional bullshit of a divorce, and multiply across millions of families. The result is an overall waste of human potential that hurts the economy. And all so the corporations, those short-sighted sons of bitches, could sell more luxury goods.

Sorry for the doom & gloom, brothers. Please, prove me wrong.

Let's keep in mind that women, far more than men, get these "useless" college degrees: Psychology (with an unemployment of ~20%), communications (the degree you get when you still want to drink on weeknights), English/Literature, Sociology, History, Early Childhood Education (daycare/preschool teacher), Art, Interior Design, Photography, Journalism, Nutrition, Fashion Design, Advertising, etc. etc. These degrees are all easy, little to no technical or math ability needed.

Now few of these degrees provide any real skills compared to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math degrees. There will be women who won't date a man without a degree, but when you get a worthless degree it really doesn't add much at the SMV bargaining table. Take my friend, borrows almost ~100k in loans to get her Interior Design degree from the Art Institute and has spent half of the last 5 years on unemployement, when she worked she made ~$15(USD)/Hr. Her boyfriend of just as long is 13 years older and makes good money as a ~20 year mechanic at a dealership, WAY more than she does.

In the end it's all about income, you could have been a janitor for ten years, then started your own janitor contracting company, and ten years later making a very nice six figures with potentially a net worth in the seven figures. That will trump some worthless Masters in Communications a woman has, making half your income with a small fraction of your net worth.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Let's keep in mind that women, far more than men, get these "useless" college degrees

I was just going to say something similar; possession of a framed piece of paper from a degree-mill university does not necessarily indicate higher intelligence or income earning potential. I've met some pretty fucking stupid college graduates. I have no college degree, yet I managed a wireless store for a number of years with college degree holders working for me. I didn't give a shit that they had a degree in business, I cared whether they could sell or not.

IQ Estimates by College Major

[–]Endorsed Contributorleftajar 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

when you get a worthless degree it really doesn't add much at the SMV bargaining table.

You do have a point, a lot of it boils down to money.

My point is, what also matters is the woman's perception of her own husband's SMV. People think college is valuable, and not having it is just anothe reason for her to disrespect her husband and think he's beneath her.

Like, you can go to a woman considering divorce and argue that college doesn't matter, but that won't change her feelings.

[–]insane_psycho 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can you have an entire generation with less SMV than the one before them or will the market have to adjust and "lower standards" I suppose to what the cutoff for the top 80% is?

Like say previously a successful career, fit body, college education ect put men in the top 20% but not all that will be a requirement when the college landscape changes

[–]Meatclap 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Many of those "excess" college women will marry a guy with less education.

Already happening. The disparity in colleges today (including programs and external supports for college) all but assure this will continue to happen well into the future (for at least the next 20-40 years minimum). Fewer opportunities for men, fewer college educated men, fewer college women marrying college men; it's pure mathematics at this point, never mind that many of those college men are opting out of marriage more than ever.

Many of those women will become dissatisfied and divorce their men.

This will happen anyway. He could have wealth and fame, but as long as she sees him as a depreciated or depreciating commodity, which is often always the case, she will divorce his ass and vilify him while the gals and pals rally to support her.

Those men will be divorce-raped of existing assets, and enslaved of their future assets. Again this is already happening. TRP is full of this kind of thing, and MRA groups exist with a large population of these men.

The only way this can get bleaker than it is now would be if there were laws forcing men to go blue or just be enslaved despite what they choose to do to protect themselves. Recent developments regarding child support of non-bio children herald the coming of such a time, when men might be legally forced in some way to live as a husband and be therefore legally penalized as a husband (ie you will owe your girlfriend alimony). I hate to point at slippery slopes, but there we are.

[–]pillpapa 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe there's still a silver lining: natural selection is still alive and well.

“A decade ago, a campaign by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine sparked a vicious backlash. Ads on public buses in several big cities featured a baby bottle shaped like an hourglass, to warn women their time was running out. But women’s rights groups called it a scare tactic that left women feeling pressured and guilty.”

Feminism is actively fighting the idea that a woman should settle down early. The women who are drawn in by this feminist siren song of "you can have it all" will reproduce at a lower rate than the women who do settle down in their 20s. This isn't the same problem of 'can I snag a provider?' but a fertility issue that even an army of white knights can't do anything about. Maybe a similar argument could be made about cuckolded white knights who defend and provide for the "sexually liberated" type?

Although biological natural selection operates over the course of millenia, cultural natural selection is much quicker so there may be time for this selection against feminism to provide a positive influence... I just hope that only the feminist part of our culture dies out and they don't drag everyone else down with them

[–]Algermas 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We can no more control the inate destructive nature of women than we can control the behavior of the sun so why worry about it? My one and only hope is that when society comes crashing down men as a whole finally see the beast who brought about this destruction and deal with it accordingly.

But they won't, because their blue pill hamster won't allow them to.

[–]dicklord_airplane 30 points31 points32 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

this strikes a little close to home because i've got a lot of highly educated female friends in our mid 20's who are all headed for this cliff of infertility and dwindling prospects for marriage. you can't say anything about it to them because "that's misogynistic!" yes, reality is cruel.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If I had a dollar for every time I was called a misogynist while blandly stating biological and statistical fact without a hint of judgement in my voice I would be a substantially wealthier man, or at least have enough to pay for my gas every week.

You think that's bad? I have an older sister. I don't want her to be a spinster, but if I try to drop some TRP knowledge here and there she's going to react with hostility. She's already called me a misogynist for the silliest of things.

Those convinced against their will are of the same opinion still... That advice will help you through a lot of your life... If she comes to you for advice, you can trek her then, but until that point, you have no recourse

happens sometime to me. i tread lightly touch some trp topics .. "HAMMURABI, thats SEXIST! women are EQUAL to men!!".

keep in mind that this is with trp ultra-light. so when they react that way, i might as well start dropping trp bombs

  • "women are sex objects, men are status objects"

  • "the only type of men that go for 30+ y/o women are men that can't get 20 y/o's"

I am a straight, college educate, career-driven man. I take care of myself, have traveled extensivly and am always working to better myself. I have a bunch of fun family and friends, have a great place and am free to do whatever I want.

Riddle me this: Why would I want to change my life?

I have a huge advantage over the other guys in my field who have children, I'm not burdened down with the debt of a spouse or large home and I can leave and do whatever I want at a moments notice. Lets not forget that there is now a 50% change that if I do get married I'll get a divorce and lose half my stuff to someone else; or god forbid if there are children involved and I become shackled to poverty by having to pay child support.

Our society is not geared for marriage. What could marriage possibly have to offer me?

[–]Summertime_Dimes 37 points38 points39 points 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Same boat. Not sure I even want kids, and definitely do not want to get stuck writing checks if hypothetical wife decides she wants to be with a 20 year old latin guy.

The only things that come to mind are: someone to manage my household, someone to grocery shop/cook healthy tasty meals/ run dry cleaning/raise kids/stay fit as hell with plenty of free time to work out. So those are my metrics when considering LTR. I.e., if you were a stay at home, what would you do with your time? When and if I meet one that says "I would clean, cook, keep a nice house, raise kids if I have any, and work out constantly to look good for my husband" I just might consider locking it down...with a prenup.

Otherwise, fuck that shit, brah.

Get a maid or a cleaning service to come a couple times a week, eat out when ever you want (eat healthy), some cleaners pick up and drop off, school and after school will most likely cover the time you are working, fuck who you want. I'm not saying you shouldn't have a woman I'm just saying those reasons aren't why you should of a woman.

I have a girlfriend who has those values. And I still won't get married to her, no matter what. It's not worth it, and if you get married, you've failed societies shit test. I gain nothing I don't already have, and I open myself up to losing everything.

You don't even get the satisfaction of writing the check. They just jack that shit straight out of your paycheck before you even see it. And prenups are worthless in the eyes of most family court judges, who tend to be feminists themselves.

[–]Summertime_Dimes 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I see comments echoing this sentiment quite a bit regarding the unenforceability of pre-nuptual agreements. Thing is, I practice law and have done the research. Sure there are some instances of agreements getting set aside, but most don't. If you hire good counsel, and follow the rules they will almost always be upheld. Combine that with some planning on the front end with moving assets and income generating investments into a trust (outside of the marital estate) and you can be protected.

I haven't seen any data on whether or not family court judges tend to be feminist or not. Not sure a study or survey exists. Our local judge fairly upholds the law. I would agree that the law tends to favor the female parent over the male parent. That is more of a problem with the law than with judges though.

If I decided to have kids, I would do so in the context of a marriage because I think it is beneficial to the kiddos. If I made the decision to do that, I would cover my ass as much as the law permits. Otherwise, I probably won't ever get married. I appreciate your comments, brah. respect.

Agreed. Marriage 2.0 offers you nothing and that is your only choice if you plan on always living in a western country.

That marriage 2.0 isn't worth it does not mean that marriage 1.0, when it still existed, did offer something valuable for men and society.

Until that point when women are the only ones graduating from college and making money and you have to marry one so you can divorce her for her stuff... of course you'll be dead by then so you don't have to prepare for it.

It's already happening. Men who marry women who make a lot more than them have similar political views to women who marry men who make a lot more. Perhaps I am mature enough to know what I like. Not everyone yearns for companionship, the financial benefits pale in comparison to the real added expense of being in a relationship, and there are a lot of rewarding feelings to be had in this world that don't involve building a family.

Also, you speak of marriage like it's some sort of guarantee, I will quote from the link I posted earlier:

“I won’t die alone” Wrong. The simple fact is that one spouse WILL die alone. Visit the hospital and go to the terminally ill or cardiac departments. Few people have the time to sit with an ill relative all day and all night. Yes, you may get visitors, but they aren’t having the same thoughts as you are. You’re contemplating your mortality, while they’re wondering what food the hospital cafeteria offers. In the end, even with a loving and supportive family, most of us will leave this world alone, unless you both die simultaneously in an accident of some kind. Your spouse may die fifteen years before you, or you may be in the hospital for your last year. Ultimately, we all die alone. Married or not.

“I won’t grow old alone” Not necessarily. A marriage can self-destruct at any time. Your partner may initiate divorce at age 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 or 70. Many married people end up in the same position (alone) as if they had never married at all. Now they enter their twilight years broke, as a result of being stripped of half or more of their life’s assets, losing half their retirement and pension funds, and being assessed alimony payments. Experiencing financial devastation from one divorce often may preclude a man from ever marrying again. This is a common observation of many middle-aged Western Women. Q: “Where are all the men?”. A: “He is broke from the divorce settlement, alimony and child support payments.” Thus these women don’t find him marriable, and he grows old alone and poor.

Men are led to believe that not marrying implies only one destiny; that of a solitary monk in a cave, a shunned loner. However, life is not so black and white. Not marrying does not mean you cannot continue to date or have meaningful relationships throughout your life. There are plenty of single people in all age brackets. A bad marriage can be the loneliest of institutions, because most of your emotional outlet and companionship is concentrated into one person who gives back nothing in emotion, affection or support. Young men in their 20′s and 30′s should be more aware of the alternatives that exist in life. They should be aware that marriage is a choice, and is not the only path life has to offer. An informed decision is less likely to be one that is later regretted.

What? Look, feminism has done some really shitty things to society, but your hopeless defeatism is unwarranted! It is actually quite funny. You sound like you are some feminist on a sex-strike, or some left-winger promoting a boycott.

This is why TRP often freaks me out. The people here are turning into male-feminists and embellishing. You can "enjoy the fruits of your labor." The simplest solution to this grievance you have can be solved (in the USA) very easily with a prenuptial agreement. Very simple.

I sat at the table at a family gathering for father's day last weekend. My mom brought up "when you get married" stuff. My opinion was never put through.

Next time, your comment is what I'll say. It describes my thoughts and myself perfectly.

There is literally no upsides to being married and having children.

Best case scenario: you have an ok life and your wife doesn't cheat on you or divorce you, but you still spend lots of money and time on raising children and dealing with random mood swings and you get to have sex with the same woman for 10+ years as her body slowly decays in quality or gets rarer and rarer...

Worst case scenario: she has sex with jamal weekly, you get divorced, your possessions are forcibly taken from you, your children are taken from you, you have to pay child support for a very long time

It's very, very rare to find a woman who brings more to the table than she costs, no matter her income.

Unless she happens to be one of those super rare frugal or at least money smart women her 70k a year are being spent to the last dollar.

Not only that but the bigger house, more expensive vacations, extra car etc etc all have to be taken into account here.

[–]1needathrowawayplease 45 points46 points47 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't have kids and don't think I want them but "there is literally no upsides to being married and having children" is pretty dumb.

Most people who have kids would tell you that it brings great joy to their lives. Unless you think literally all of those people are lying to themselves, there are upsides.

[–]TaylorWolf 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I could see having kids in order to pass down collected knowledge and wisdom. To give someone a better hand in life than you had, and instruct them in your favorite sports/hobbies.

If you had 5 nieces and nephews I could see not having kids. You could be a part of their life when you want to and share your experiences.

[–]Glenbert 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is how feminists think. How many people actually give a flying fuck about their childless uncles and aunts. With the exception of the rare "troubled teen," very few.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That is probably the only one and I doubt it brings people more joy than the freedom to do your favorite activities if you were to not have children or get married.

I guess its more like, having a chance at enjoying yourself raising your children versus all these other possible negative side effects versus avoiding all the side effects and having joy enjoying all of your time doing your favorite hobbies.

[–]TaylorWolf 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The joy of your simple "hobbies" is nothing compared to the love you feel for your children.

I love having my own place. It may be lonely sometimes, but when I'm there, nobody can fuck with me. As a married man I was trapped. My home was constantly filled with drama and I had nowhere to go to escape it. Now, my home is the escape. The entire place is my man cave and I fucking love it.

From the point of someone who has never had children I could see how you believe there is no upside to having children. I can't say the same for being married but 99.9% of the time the love you develop for you children is greater than any love for a women and the joy you get from raising them (the majority of the time. yes there are exceptions to everything) will trump any cons it creates.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Our society is not geared for marriage. What could marriage possibly have to offer me?

marriage itself provides for many financial advantages. If your spouse holds a similar paying job you will be a lot wealthier in the long run.

  • shared housing costs. Nobody said you have to buy a big house. Huge benefit, you could end up with an additional 25% realized gain in take home pay

  • tax benefits. MFJ is a prefferred tax bracket over a single bracket on the federal level.

*Food costs would go down. As a single adult, I can't tell you how many things I buy at the grocery that would be so much better to take as a 2 person meal. It's so frustrating buying raw meat at 1lb minimums. Same goes with "starter meals", ie like hamburger helper. I find myself over eating sometimes because I hate the waste. If you ended up having a big family then you have a solution for when you make "single servings" of spaghetti (lol jokes aside, it's a benefit) 2x the income but not 2x the food costs.

  • kids are the enemy of a budget oriented rant against marriage, not marriage itself.

But I see your point and definitely understand where you're coming from....

Only if one spouse makes a LOT more than the other. Otherwise, there's a marriage penalty, and they may as well file separately.

[–]PenisInBlender -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

That's simply not true, and I am not going to go down this path with someone who simply has no interest in the truth. In very rare, high dollar instances does a married couple end up better filing seperate, and even then they file Married filing (edit) Joint Seperate, which has it's own bracket. They don't file "single" because they can't file single. IT IS ILLEGAL.

Not worth my time or energy. Check my posting history, I am an accountant, I've learned and applied this stuff in the classroom and real world extensively. That training and application has taught me a lot, including not to advise breaking the law to better your tax rates.

Sorry bud, I just don't have the energy to play msnbc fairyland tonight. Have a good one.

[–]otiswild 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_penalty

"Under these tax rates, two single people who each earned $87,850 would each file as "Single" and each would pay a marginal tax rate of 25%. However, if those same two people were married, their combined income would be exactly the same as before (2 * $87,850 = $175,700), but the "Married filing Jointly" tax brackets would push them into a higher marginal rate of 28%, costing them an additional $879 in taxes.

In the most extreme case, two single people who each earned $400,000 would each pay a marginal tax rate of 35%; but if those same two people filed as "Married, filing jointly" then their combined income would be exactly the same (2 * $400,000 = $800,000), yet $350,000 of that income would be taxed as the higher 39.6% rate, resulting in a marriage penalty of $32,119 in extra taxes ($16,100 for the 39.6% bracket alone, plus the remainder is due to the higher phase out of the lower brackets.)

In some couples, the greater earner may benefit from filing as married, while the lesser earner from not being married. For example, consider two single people, one with an income of $100,000 (and therefore paying a marginal rate of 28%) and the other with no income (and therefore paying no income tax). By being married and filing jointly, the $100,000 earner reduces his/her bracket to the 25% rate, receiving a "marriage bonus" for a net tax savings of $364, while the nonearner goes from the 10% bracket to the 25% bracket on the first dollars earned upon entering the workforce."

The point you miss that other people point out is even then you shouldn't get married if you make enough. It would be better to be two single people living together.

tax benefits. MFJ is a prefferred tax bracket over a single bracket on the federal level.

Only if you make substantially more than the wife. If you both make good money, you pay more as a couple than you would as singles.

[–]PenisInBlender 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is quite common for this to be a reality, that one spouse makes far more than the other.

If it wasn't then you wouldn't see the numbers of MFJ that you do. It is also important to note that married people are the majority of homeowners and mortgage interest deductions is one of the largest deductions on a tax bracket. So while marriages can and do happen without owning a home, they often come hand in hand to a lot of couples.

Sure not as much as it could have, but we only did things we wanted to, spent money on things we both would have done with or without each other.

Her birthday? a card and something small. 35$, far less than the savings of cohabitation. Christmas? $100

We lived fun and thrifty, and it saved me money. The split was my idea but pretty amicable, and not centered around money, at all.

Even a stay at home wife can save you time and money if she takes to the homemaker role seriously and cuts costs where she can... It's not quite as cheap as being single, but if you're trading your shopping time for work time, it still works in your favor

[–]PenisInBlender 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

A stay at home mom earns the most money for a family with children as it negates the need for child care. We're talking about a childless relationship here.

A stay at home wife does not produce cost savings. She can cook and clean and do laundry at home. That doesn't produce any cost savings. Your dinner does cost any more money of you made it after work or your wife makes it. Same with laundry, cleaning. Etc.

It would cost money to have a stay at home wife. She consumes extra utilities, food and other consumables. For instance, I turn off everything, including AC before I go to work no matter how hot it gets that day. I routinely walk in to an 80° apartment but it's cool again in 20min, I also consume no power besides my fridge during the day. None of that would be possible with a stay at home wife.

Saving time, sure, but we are focused on money here. Your saved time while your off work is only worth what you would pay someone else to not do those things your wife does, which in my case would be 0$ saved, because I would do it myself before I paid someone to do it for me.

In a position like mine, there's always work to do if you have time to do it, so saving 3 hours per day of housework, cooking, and shopping turns into 15 hours of overtime each week which is a significant increase in pay, where as funding an extra human pays for itself in tax breaks... I immediately take home more money, enough so that the increased utilities are negligible, so that's pretty easy money already

[–]PenisInBlender 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ahhh I am salaried, so it doesn't matter that I plan on rolling into work 30min late tomorrow morning and leaving at lunch to play golf.

Also, 3 hours per day for cooking meals, laundry and cleaning? What....how? I spend an hour a week on laundry and cleaning and maybe 2 or 3 a week to make dinners. Lunches are either brought to work in the am or consumed at home and are normally sandwhiches or fruit aka virtually nill prep time.

[–]colovick[🍰] -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

2-3 hours per day to cook 3 meals, clean, do the shopping... That stuff... It can probably be done quicker, but I was throwing out a number for the sake of argument... 2 hours per day is still a 37% increase in pay, which isn't shabby

People who go to college are probably a bit more intelligent on average, but we're talking about individuals here. You can't be successful in the skilled trades if you're an idiot, and there are a whole lot of college degrees you can get with an 85 IQ.

A woman with a sociology or communications degree may think she's settling for someone with a lower IQ when she marries a successful plumber, but she's most likely wrong.

I understand the home, but the debt of a spouse? Marriage is what you PUT INTO IT. You're looking at it from a completely selfish and 'what's in it for me' mentality, which defeats the purpose and the great things about marriage.

so with that mentality, it's best you don't marry and fuck up someone else's life

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

you shouldn't look at it that way because life is not about being selfish. Life is much better when you can give of yourself to the world.

There's obviously many ways to do this and marriage isn't necessary to do this... but living a life completely for yourself and not looking to improve the world or help others isn't as fulfilling

[–]kenatogo 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes of course. Living a fulfilling life is about having a positive effect in the world, not getting divorce raped or being a doormat to some woman. Tell you what, I would consider marriage if there were a woman who was able to give equally back in relation to what I give her.

In fifteen years of dating, I've never met one. Almost every married man I know has been divorced or confides in me that he's fucking miserable and warns me not to get married.

A recent survey found that women dramatically underestimate how much fertility declines with age. They estimated that a 30 year-old had an 80% chance of getting pregnant in one try. The real likelihood is 30%. They also thought a 40 year-old woman would have a 40% success rate, while those odds are less than 10%.

It actually makes sense for a woman's sexual prime to be in her 30's-40's. Her body is in a last ditch effort to pump out as many kids as possible, so her hormones go into overdrive. Sexual peak and fertility are two very different things, however.

[–]2insickness 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It actually makes sense for a woman's sexual prime to be in her 30's-40's.

I suspect that this often-quoted statistic is bullshit. It's possible some women have a spike of horniness in their late 30's, but I think their sex drive decreases along with their ability to have kids or at best stays steady. I'd really love to hear how they came up with this statistic.

[–]Kubomi 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]t21spectre 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Probably in the same way they came up with the 1 in 4 statistic. Women in their teens and 20s, in their most fertile years, have FAR more of a sex drive that late 30s. It's all that 35 is the new 25, 40 is the new 30 bullshit.

Where are women getting these odd notions of infinite fertility?

They probably think they just have to try long enough (or get IVF) in order to succeed. Wouldn't be too surprised if the questions were poorly worded:

They estimated that a 30 year-old had an 80% chance of getting pregnant in one try.

I mean, honestly - 80% pregnancy chance in one try? Not even 20 year olds get pregnant at the first opportunity during their fertile days. It's probably more like "a 20% drop in fertility as a 30 year old".

[–]Endorsed Contributorzyk0s 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I'm even questioning the 30% in one try, according to you'd need only have sex 10 times to have a >99% probability of conceiving. The figure I remember is a 30% chance of conceiving per year for women under 30 when they don't use any protection.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

3% chance per time, 12% when ovulating. Not having a child after a year of "trying" is viewed as infertile by physicians. So your data is very very very flawed.

[–]Endorsed Contributorzyk0s 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like I said, I simply recalled the 30% from memory and remembered it was a yearly stat. If the CDC stats are accurate, my stat would be about women over 40. I was mainly pointing out that 30% per time is ridiculously high, the 3% you quote makes much more sense.

But I think these are the stats you're looking for: Chance of becoming pregnant after one year of "trying" by age "Here is one of the most commonly cited estimates on the percentage chance of conception after one year of trying:

Age 20: 90% probability

Age 30: 70% probability

Age 35: 55% probability

Age 40: 45% probability

Age 45: 6% probability"

The figure I remember is a 30% chance of conceiving per year for women under 30 when they don't use any protection.

I don't think so, that would be too low. Don't forget that for couples that aren't using protection but have an active sex live, nigh-constant pregnancy is, while not that usual, not unheard of.

[–]Endorsed Contributorzyk0s 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure it's that low. It still leaves plenty of room for constant pregnancies. After 2 years, 10% of women will have become pregnant both years. Also, the figure is assuming intercourse at a rate of about 3 times a week, seeing as the fertility window is a few days, changing it to intercourse every day significantly increases that percentage, and can easily explain very frequent pregnancies.

[–]-Tyler_Durden-6 points 12 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

That's the chance to get pregnant for one month (cycle). If a 30 year old woman has sex every day for a month there's a 30% chance to get pregnant. For two months it would be 30%+21% for 51% and so on. For a 40 year old it would be 10% chance for one month and 19% chance for two months. This is assuming you are getting the probability at t=0. If the 30 year old didn't get pregnant this month her chances are still 30% for the next month.

However I have seen numbers lower than the author's estimates. http://www.children.gov.on.ca/images/infertility/naturalconceptin_en.gif

What isn't discussed is that the chance for various birth defects and miscarriage increases exponentially as a woman ages and the critical age is around 30.

If a woman wants to be a mother then she should have her first child before she reaches 25. She can always go to school and have a career. However she has a limited time to have a healthy child.

If a woman has a PhD it does not increase her fertility; this is one reason why men don't care about degrees when selecting a mate.

What isn't discussed is that the chance for various birth defects and miscarriage increases exponentially as a woman ages and the critical age is around 30.

I wish people would understand this. Where I work couples all started trying to have families at 35+. Half of them never got out of the gate, even with very expensive fertility treatments - the guy in the next cube spent $130k with no success. Of the ones who had children I would say about half the kids are screwed up in some (most likely genetic) way. Autism and sexual development abnormalities being the big ones.

The couples that couldn't have children adopted. Another thing people don't realize until they're into it is you can have a bond with your adopted child but it's rarely the same type of bond you have with your genetic child, even if you adopt a baby. There are going to be extra problems. I've been told by more than one guy if he could go back he wouldn't adopt.

[–]t21spectre 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Adopting is like buying a used car, you don't really know what your getting until down the road. It could work out great or it could turn out to be a sinkhole for time, money, and energy. Mother could of drank, used drugs, or just generally shitty health and habits during the pregnancy leading to development problems, or just shit genes.

Proper use of pulling out daily for a year has a 76% success rate for pregnancy prevention... Blowing your load in her every time has a 70% success rate, so that's roughly where you stand

What does "76% success rate for pregnancy prevention" mean? My guess would be that it means "given a certain probability of getting pregnant, this method reduces that probability to 24% of what it was". So we are talking about completely different measures.

Once people women enter their early to mid-twenties, the risk of divorce is reduced. Indeed, people women who postpone marriage until their thirties face a dwindling supply of potential partners – a situation that may increase the likelihood of forming unions with partners who are not good marriage material. In other words, marrying “too late” may increase the risk of having a troubled relationship.

It's too bad feminism doesn't teach women to find a good man while they're young and attractive. Instead women ride the cock carousel until it's too late and they are approaching The Wall.

They can ride the carousel into their thirties and then have a baby out of wedlock with a top 20% guy with good genetics and then have it be supported by the government, they don't need anyone but those top genetically blessed guys to get what they want while they're still desirable. To them the rest of all men might as well not exist because until they hit the wall they don't need anything from the bottom 80% majority of men except for them to pay their taxes anyway.

Hypergamy is fine, I appreciate the biological logic of a woman being hypergamous. I would say all people are "hypergamous" in gender specific ways - I would branch swing to a supermodel 10 from my GF if I could, no point in lying. There is nothing wrong with women wanting guys to be higher status than they are, just like I know my GF is a solid 2-3 physical attraction points higher than me on the scale.

The problem arrives when society is not set up to deal with this hypergamy. Ancient cultures said "Ok, you only will remain loyal, raise the kids, provide, and support a man who is higher status than you? Fine - any man who works hard and does what society needs done will be higher status than you." This methodology, while crude, worked in nearly every civilization and kept men and women reasonably happy relative to the alternative (being nomadic / starving). We created religions that boil down to "this is what a man should do to be good and get rewards, if a man does this, then he will be able to spread his genes. This is what a woman should do, if she wants one of these guys to care for her, she will have to be X." The Quran in many sections reads like the magna carta mixed with Maury, outlining basic ideas for settling property and marital disputes, and dishing out punishments for men and women who violate the laws that uphold the crude, but essential functionality of society.

A society has to be based on a realistic philosophy. We started creating rules and philosophies based off of these fantasy concepts, like the image of a hardworking single mother and shitty dad, and this is why America suffers to the degree it does. It's the difference between saying "OK, we know people murder and rape, so we will station cops at high risk locations" and saying "we need to lecture the criminals about murder-culture and rape-culture."

In this case, the reality to be accepted is that women are, and always will be, hypergamous. Just like you will never convince me to fuck a 5 over a 9, women cannot functionally be attracted to lower status guys. So society must essentially keep a substantial portion of men fixed as higher status than women - as sexist as it sounds, men must be higher status than women as a whole in order for family units, the economy, the efficiency of government, etc, to succeed.

Here's a good analysis of the factors involved: http://www.eurasiareview.com/27022014-us-inequality-due-assortative-marriages-analysis/

[–]Beardsman2 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Without the constraints of society I'm sure you would rather continue on with your girlfriend, AND have the supermodel. That's not hypergamy its polygamy. Women want the best they can get and only the best they can get, that's hypergamy.

So society must essentially keep a substantial portion of men fixed as higher status than women - as sexist as it sounds, men must be higher status than women as a whole in order for family units, the economy, the efficiency of government, etc, to succeed.

I agree completely however in real life one cannot say this or do anything that implies this, it seems like we (western society) are headed down a path where the opposite of this is happening (no one caring, hell even encouraging that men are being bestowed with less and less intrinsic social worth compared to the average woman) and no one is noticing because anyone who dares say something is called a conspiracy theorist or worse a misogynist.

I see it happening all the time ever since I swallowed the pill, for example women my age and socioeconomic status who showed interest in me at my work suddenly look down at me as scum once they get promoted and gain even the smallest amount more of status (quite literally a 10 cent raise in comparison to my position) due to them working full time while I'm still working the same old part-time lower tier shifts because I'm only doing it on the side while at college.

But what can a man do? All I realistically do is focus on my studies and continue lifting (not that it means jack shit apparently) while girls my age go after the same few guys that they always have and hope that once I'm done at school I can maybe land a second hand girlfriend if there are any jobs careers left by then to elevate my status enough to be above that of the average unemployed 20 year old girl and be thankful for the right to do it while having "male privilege".

[–]zephyrprime -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have always said that your greatest strength is also your greatest weakness. In the case of the West, that strength and weakness is FREEDOM & EQUALITY. These two concepts were a big part in creating the modern world but as it turns out, women will not procreate with men they are equal too. The mathematics of a declining population spell disaster for civilization. GAME OVER.

As an "uneducated" white collar professional, all i can say is..oh welll. moar money for toys, vacations and the strip club! instead of using money toward a wedding ring i am going to buy a new dirtbike or streetbike. money that would be spent on building a life for my family will go to a sports car and i will still be able to aggressively invest for retirement. the Lolz i am going to have! jus' another day as a CIS SHYTLORD
