It seems like many men genuinely can't understand why women do not want to "take advantage of their youth" to marry a much older, richer man. And why women finding older men focused on younger women icky (this is often reduced to jealousy, even when the women are young themselves).

I will explain why many women do not want to be used for their youth any more than men want to be used for their money.

Men: Imagine that you become a millionaire, with the caveat that you will only have the full amount of money for four years. After this you will lose money for each year until you become middle class efter ten years. You have no way of saving or investing your money. When it's gone, it's gone.

Suddenly women are throwing themselves at you from all sides. You get approached wherever you go, married women are "joking" about leaving their husbands for you and your Facebook inbox is perpetually full of women wanting to date you. Great right? Some of these women are unattractive or single mothers so you ignore them. But lots of them are dateable.

After a short while you start noticing some patterns: Many of these women are significantly poorer than you. You see them throwing themselves at you, while totally ignoring men of their own income level, even if these men are similar to yourself. You can't help but wonder if these women are only interested in you for your money and what will happen when the money eventually goes away, which you know it will.

However, some of the interested women are millionaires too and unlike the poor women, they mainly socialize with other millionaires. Still, they want you over some of the other rich guys. You feel that these women are genuinely attracted to your looks and personality, and not just your wallet. The millionaire women are 7,5/10 (with potential to become a 8,5/10) and the most beautiful of the poor women is 9/10.

Who would you pick for a relationship? The slightly superior women, who you know is mainly with you for your wallet? Or the slightly less attractive, but still attractive women who have money themselves and want you for your other traits? If you choose the poor 9/10, what do you think will happen when your money runs out? Will she stay with your for the good times and memories or will she leave you to pursue the new crop of temporary millionaires? If she can't lock down a new millionaire, will she be resentful to you over the money you lost through no fault of your own?

This is how many women feel about older men pursuing us: We see you ignoring women your own age, who you would have more in common with to pursue us. We know that you would not give us a second glance if we happened to be ten years older. We are very aware that you are so intoxicated by this one valuable (and temporary) feature that you do not care about our other traits.

Not to mention that the younger men are much more physically attractive than older men, and with time have the potential to become well off themselves. All in all, there is a reason that most women do not want to trade in their youth for an older, less attractive man, who would not have looked twice at her if she was his own age.

Being wanted primarily for your youth is not flattering. CMV.
